Diner Reviews
  • "This place has literally been my favorite since I moved to NY. The prices are great, the food is perfect and the bar area is great. it definitely feels cozy and like a neighborhood gem. Great for a date spot, family spot, girls dinner, bday brunch..any occasion. And their sangria is amazing!!"

  • "Pescatore is renowned for a solid product, i.e. good food. Excellent octopus appetizer, a rare thing at NYC tables. Very tender calamari (fried)."

  • "Travel to midtown NY frequently and always looking for a good restaurant with reasonable prices. Food was delicious and priced right for NY."

  • "food was great! I love that they have half portion pastas! I got two different half portion pastas for my entree. It was perfect!"

  • "I enjoyed the food very much and will return. The fact that they offer 1/2 portions is a big deal and much appreciated!"

  • "not as much fish as the name suggests…and the several dishes that I have tried have been very tasty, but quite rich. Not light, healthy-feeling fish type dishes. Our waiter was quite wonderful."

  • "A friend and I tried Pescatore on a recommendation from another friend. Service was fine and our appetizers very good - lightly fried calamari and octopus served in a deep bowl that was a bit awkward. The wine was good and very fairly priced. We both ordered pasta. My friend's linguinivongole was very salty and my linguini Nero was extremely overbooked. Also, if you go early, do not sit by the window. In time, bar patrons will be pushed against your table."

  • "We learned about Pescatore when we saw executive chef Kenneth Johnson on the Food Network show "Chopped," and decided we had to try it when we realized the restaurant was almost around the corner from where we live. Everything we ate was delicious, especially the mushroom risotto balls with truffle aioli and the Chilean sea bass. The dessert was also amazing - zeppoles with three different dipping sauces. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant."

  • "We sat upstairs for the Luis Simas cabaret show and it was wonderful! Hubby's Osso Buco portion was small, but very tasty. Fried Calamari was crispy and not greasy. The waiter and bus boy worked well together and kept the whole room in food and drink. Nice portions on the glasses of wine. We'd definitely go back. No idea what the downstairs is like."

  • "Met a friend for dinner there. Had a lovely glass of red at the bar - it was happy hour so for only $5 I got to try a new Spanish red and that is always a good start to a meal. It was quiet when we first arrived, but by the time we left 2 hours later, the restaurant's tables were nearly full and as was the volume. But no matter. It was a fun Sunday night. They have a great special, which we didn't know about before hand, but took advantage of when we got there - Sunday parm - choice of veal, chicken, shrimp or eggplant parmesan w/salad and pasta all for $20. I had the veal, she the eggplant and both were quite tasty. Our waitress was attentive without hovering. Yes, I will return."

  • "perhaps one might get past the mediocre italian food, but it is not clean. period. same ole, same ole. in NYC you really have to step it up - be it service, ambiance or fare, something need set you apart if you are to be more than a "seamless web" provider. I brought clients there as our original choice was under construction. Used to be a class act. Now it seems Pescatore has turned into 'just another 2nd Ave place'."

  • "Quality of the food was fabulous. Had pasta with clams--and it was the best I've ever had. Varied wine list. Reasonably priced considering quality is so high."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Pescatore. Erica, our waitress, was delightful. The menu is good, the specials were terrific. It's a perfect dining experience for those over 30 in the neighborhood. (Many of the places on 2nd Avenue in the 50s are hangouts for younger crowd..)"

  • "We went to this restaurant based only on the recommendation of a tourist that we met earlier in the day, whom we didn't know, but who raved about the place. This is a down to earth place without pretense near everywhere in midtown. We're glad we took the chance and listened to a stranger. The food was absolutely the best part of the experience. Everything was delicious and well presented. The waiter anticipated our needs, and at the end of the evening when we said how much we loved the olives and bread on the table, he gave us a little take home bag with another 'taste' of the olives and bread inside. Outstanding. This place seems to take great joy in feeding people, and it shows."

  • "Definitely a spot to go to enjoy the food. When it is packed, the place can be a bit tight. But, if you are focus on the food and drinks (some unique cocktails) you will forgot about your neighbor next to you."

  • "The place looks really dated and is the turn off- but then the food comes out and you don't care at all. I ordered a lot- and everything was outstanding!!"

  • "Can't wait to return to New York and dine at Pescatore again. Will definitely send friends there! Small plate menu was extraordinary. and delicious. Pastas were so fresh and gently prepared, just wonderful. Wine was outstanding too. Bloody Mary's top notch. Wonderful experience."

  • "The evening started well., but the level of service declined as the evening went on. The sea bass was delicious. If the service were better, I would consider returning to the restaurant."

  • "We were 6 people who hadn't seen each other in a while. Restaurant honored requests for a round table and a quiet location. Food is good-basic preparations. We enjoyed our experience. Prices are moderate for Manhattan."

  • "We have walked right by this restaurant hundreds of times. We finally went and loved it. We will certainly return. Very good food and reasonably priced. The sea bass was excellent. It is a great neighborhood find."

  • "We wanted a nice meal for just the 2 of us on Thanksgiving so found this place on Open Table. Wasn't sure what to expect but got good reviews so we decided to try it. It's excellent value for the money. I had the the turkey that was wonderfully moist. (There was a choice of light or dark meat). There were mashed potatoes, string beans, cranberry and dressing. Not huge portions but enough. Also had great pumpkin/sage ravioli. My husband had pasta w/ clam sauce he said was excellent. They had their regular menu available. Service was attentive and waiter recommended a nice wine. It was very down-to-earth with clearly neighborhood people stopping by--not snooty or pretentious---and felt relaxed. We would go back."

  • "My wife and I used to really enjoy the food here.Hadn't been back in six months.Last time out food was bland and not very exciting.Decided to try it again.Unfortunately it wasn't any different in the taste department.New decor.New wait staff but food unmemorable. It's a shame the old kitchen was far better. My advice- Try somewhere else."

  • "I've eaten here many times with my wife in the past and decided to return here with some team members from my company for a group dinner on Tuesday night. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered 5 appetizers to try a little bit of everything and maybe one was good. The rest could have been bought in Food Emporium. The good service took a while to kick in. They were sitingy with the bread and the olives and I had to ask for the olive oil more than once. The wine list was missing all the moderately priced wines. The choices were either the cheapest or the most expensive, which wasn't evn Italian. It was California Cab. The manager came over at the end with some complimentary cherry wine, which was nice but by then the damage was done."

  • "After seeing the chef win Chopped, my friend wanted to go here so we decided to go for brunch. Included in a prefix brunch menu was a coffee or tea along with a typical alcoholic brunch beverage. The brunch was great, I had the bourbon soaked banana french toast, it was delicious. While looking at the brunch menu I also looked at the lunch menu and it looked great. The decor was also fitting, with little fish hanging from the ceiling. I've since gone back, three times for dinner. The food is amazing! I'd recommend everything on the menu!"

  • "Other than that, the food was very basic and uninspiring. Spaghetti alla Carbonara was not good. Pizzas were fair. Cauliflower boring."
