  • "The bouillabaisse and rockfish were very well done. Can easily talk in a back booth."

  • "Have been here several times. Always very good food and very good service. Wish the tables were not so jam-packed together and that the noise level were lower."

  • "Great service. Very good wedge salad and crab cake."

  • "I had the short ribs and they were so incredibly rich and delicious. As much as I wanted to finish them, I just couldn't. We had been here years ago and the portions were much smaller. This was a wonderful, filling, and divine menu. Everything we had exceeded our expectations!"

  • "I haven't been to Persimmon in years -always forget about it bc it is a bit out of the way-and am so happy we returned. We went for lunch and the crab cakes with corn salad and mashed potatoes for so delicious. My friends got fish tacos that they said were great too. I will be back soon!"

  • "Persimmon is the best value for money one can find in Bethesda. The setting is not great (not like in France) and the view is dreary (Wisconsin Avenue and lots of cars) but the food is terrific, the prices very reasonable and the staff adorable (friendly and professional). So I come here all the time."

  • "Five of us dined, having a total of 4 different apps, 4 different entrees and 3 different desserts. Everything tasted fabulous! Entrees of short ribs, crab cakes, lamb chops, and the evening red snapper special--all excellent. Service was attentive. Quite noisy--don't go here for a quiet tryst. We will absolutely return. Hopefully the short ribs will still be on the menu."

  • "Persimmon has been and continues to be one of my favorites in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area. It is small, vibrant, family owned, and the food is excellent. We sat in the front room. My husband complained about how close together the tables are, but it reminds me of New York. You're part of the action but have your own space. I did find the noise level to be quite high, we had to shout to hear each other. Vibrant is great, but when you can't hear each other, that's another story. We had the tuna tartare appetizer followed by the scallops with orzo. Loved the appetizer; the scallops were tender and flavorful; the orzo was a bit pasty. The place is a neighborhood gem and I'm thrilled to support someone from the community."

  • "I hadn't been to Persimmon since it re-opened last year, so went to lunch with several friends. More casual ambience than I remember, but the food is still quite good. Black bean soup was pureed and nicely flavored with cumin. We had an assortment of appetizers instead of main courses. Recommend the tuna tartare and the pate. The shrimp with polenta was mixed. I'm a big fan of polenta, but this version was lacking in texture. A little too smooth."

  • "We were very disappointed with our visit to Persimmon. Our waiter was more concerned with dropping bills at other tables than with taking our order, bringing us place settings, or clearing our plates. We waited a long time for our salads to arrive. Then, while we were in the middle of our salads, our entrees arrived. Worse, it seemed as if our entrees had been "warming" for a while - my fish was overcooked. Plus, our salad plates weren't cleared until we asked for some help. I didn't understand the need to keep us waiting so long and then to rush our entrees. Otherwise, the food was fine - nothing special. Perhaps the service is better on off-nights."

  • "I'll give this restaurant 5 stars for food, but didn't really like the physical set up. Tables too small and too close together. Not what I was hoping for, for a rare date night with my husband."

  • "This is simply one of the best restaurants in the DC area, and I'd rate it just as highly as any restaurant in any City where I've Travelled, including Philly, NY, Chicago, LA, SF, etc. We eat there only once or twice a year, because we live near Fredericksburg, VA, and it's a 61 mile drive to Bethesda. It is not cheap, but you definitely ALWAYS get your money's worth!"

  • "Since my first visit more than 10 years ago, signature dishes (such as Duck Confit in Black Bean Sauce) have been removed from the menu in favor of a dinner hamburger and portions are substantially smaller. While a duck confit salad is still available, there was less than a forkful of duck in the salad we received. The once gratis serving of bread with chopped liver now carries a $4 charge and must be requested. Despite a recent renovation, the physical ambience remains cramped and very noisy."

  • "This was at least our third trip to Persimmon, taking a couple who lived close by but had never been. All 4 of us really enjoyed the food and excellent service. They were accommodating with requests to change menu items on 2 visits to give a dinner protein with salad. Drinks and wine choices are great and their wine flights are a nice opportunity to try variations."

  • "We had not eaten at Persimmon in a couple years as we lost interest, but heard of the renovation and menu changes. The four of us had an appetizer, entree and dessert. Each course was delicious, excellent flavor, and presentation. Only negative was the strawberry shortcake was a little disappointing - expected to see fresh strawberries. The service did start out slow, but greatly improved. The lamb was amazing! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "WE WENT TWICE WITHIN TWO WEEKS, EACH TIME ALL THREE MEALS WERE SUPER. THE FLAVORS, THE PRESENTATION,THE PREPARATION, THE SIX DIFFERENT DISHES WERE EACH AS GOOD AS COULD BE. I'm speaking of entrees. We didn't have deserts as the portions disqualified us, they were large and perfect to the last bite. The one soup was excellent. Once we sat in the table area, the second time in a booth in the bar area. we'll not do that again as it was too noisy for us. We'll certainly return."

  • "My wife and I eat at Persimmon twice a month, almost always on Saturday night, so obviously we enjoy the restaurant. This recent experience however was somewhat disappointing as the food and service were not at the level we expected based upon prior visits. It may be that the absence of the manager, Phil, was the problem. (I would offer the absence of the owner/chef but we rarely see him at the restaurant any more.) The beginning courses were excellent; however, the rockfish and crab cakes were disappointing (evident from lack of our consumption even though the staff appeared indifferent). Let's hope that this was a one-time off night rather than a trend reflective of the lack of oversight in the kitchen and dining room."

  • "Having dinner, we kept asking ourselves why did it take us so long to return to Persimmon after it was closed for 6 months while it was being remodeled. The cooking was as good and memorable--wasabi fried oysters, bouillabaisse, pecan-crusted lamb, flourless chocolate cake have no comparables in the area, and reasonably priced for such distinctive dining. The menu has expanded to include a wider range of lunchtime fare, available throughout the day, that would be suitable for families to dine."

  • "Had a nice family dinner. Entertaining and friendly waiter. Lobster roll and crab cakes were very good. Restaurant is small and seating is a little tight."

  • "We went here for an early Sunday evening dinner to celebrate my mother's 81st birthday. She and I have been to Persimmon several times for lunch but this was our first dinner. We had a group of 6 and were well taken care of. The food was delicious and the desserts were wonderful."

  • "Persimmon has stood the test if time for consistently having an interesting menu and perfectly prepared dishes. The scallop entree was beautifully presented on a bed of greens . Interesting entree was barbecued rack of lamb. The kitchen makes an ordinary steak perfectly charbroiled without oversized he-man portions . Save room for dessert... The creme brûlée has the perfect crusted top . Wine list .. I didn't see but the merlot we had was very good . Persimmon used to be very noisy but this time it was crowded but no struggle to hear conversation for a table of 3 people. Other perks include friendly staff, easy parking ."

  • "After two visits, Persimmon has become one of our favorites. Great, great food - try the duck. And the passion fruit martini is to die for."

  • "On Valentine's Day we went to Persimmon. It has become one of our favorite restaurants since they reopened after the remodeling. The food was outstanding. I was very pleased with my perfect steak until, at my wife's insistence, I tasted her rack of lamb. It was the tastiest dish I can remember for the past several years. It was nothing short of fabulous. They also offered great wine; we had a cab from Australia, a Valentine's Day special at about 45% off the regular price. We look forward to going back to Persimmon soon. The restaurant is cozy, the wait staff is competent and nice, but it is the food that will draw you back time and again."

  • "Love the food, the service. And had an amazing chilled roasted vegetable salad on New Year's Eve that I am hoping beyond hope will become a staple on the menu. It was terrific."

  • "I love Persimmon Restaurant. They are consistently excellent. I had the catch of the day, snapper, and was pleasantly surprised with a beautiful medly of peppers and pasta beneath if in a beautiful beurre blanc. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. I know that when I'm going to Persimmon I will have a great meal and a good time. This is low key, no hassle and pleanty of parking behind the restaurant. This is my go-to restaurant in Bethesda for a good meal."

  • "Persimmon is one of the most inhospitable restaurants I have ever been. The host was rude and nasty, lying to us throughout the evening. The food at this restaurant is fair at best. The server was fine. There are many other restaurant choices in Bethesda and I will seek them out instead of returning to Persimmon."

  • "The food was outstanding, and innovative. The appetizers of raviolis and the tuna and avocado tartare were great Even the Caesar salad was very good The service by James was very pleasant and helpful. The new booths made the dining atmosphere much more pleasant and less noisy than previously. The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was a perfect match with my food."

  • "The beet salad and salmon entree were wonderful, but the apple empanada dessert left something to be desired. Portions were a touch small, so we all finished our entrees whereas usually we have some to take home. Service was slow to start and the noise level was high for a Tuesday, but there was a good wine list and the place was cozy."

  • "Had a lovely dinner and a fabulous waiter. Food was excellent and well plated and served. A bit crowded as the night went on (we dined early) and the noise level become a distraction. Everything very excellent with the exception that it is distracting to have crowds of people lined up inside at the doorway when we were trying to have a leisurely dinner. The restaurant, even after the renovation, is still quite small. However, I found the food as well as the service much friendlier and improved over previous visits prior to renovation. I will surely come again....but one should try to time their visit to minimize crowding and excessive noise."

  • "We have been going to Persimmon for many years and go up and down on the restaurant. At one point, it was our favorite in Bethesda, and then a few so-so meals dropped it off the list altogether. We went there for the first time in over a year and really enjoyed our meal -- the food was excellent, and it was relatively quiet because we went on Sunday evening. It is back in contention for a favorite in Bethesda, but that is partially because our view of Grapeseed has dropped significantly and the rest of the "competition" is pretty good but none is really great -- at least in our view. Would include Persimmon on the list with Raku and a few others for favorites."

  • "Has potential - sweet small restaurant but lacking a vibe and wine overpriced. Our dinner with tax/tip was $83 for 2 entrees and 2 drinks - no appetizers, dessert or coffee/tea. Expensive!"
