A word from Perry's - Embarcadero
Perry’s on the Embarcadero is a sleek waterfront outpost of the Union Street original, following the same combination of all-American favorite fare and comfortable, welcoming service that Perry’s first made a San Francisco hallmark in 1969. The décor is warm – murals reminiscent of the memorabilia made famous on Union Street, combined with exposed brick walls, a wood-burning fireplace and breathtaking views of the Bay and the Bay Bridge.

Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and its fun, bustling bar. Perry's traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish. Perry’s on the Embarcadero is conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco’s bustling financial district, across the street from the Ferry Building, less than a mile from AT&T Park and easy to reach by public transportation from all over the city and the greater Bay Area.

Our reservation was for 12:30. It was very croweded for a Monday. We got to our table at 12:45. We didn't get to order until 12:55. 25 minutes into the lunch reservation we were able to order. That being said, our waitress took excellent care of us even though she was completely slammed. The food came out in a much more time efficent manner than in my recent experiences, which was wonderful to see.

I made a reservation at 12:15 on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We were seated immediately, but didn't get to put in our order until about 12:23. Okay, no worries. Shouldn't take terribly long, we each only got a Perry's Burger. Cut to about 12:50, when our lunch hour is just about up, we ask the waitress to pack our food to go so we can get back to work on time. She said she'd take care of it, no problem. At about 12:55 we get the food delivered to our table. We ask the server bring our food (who is different from the server we asked to pack our stuff in) to pack it up to go. Also, we saw a different table than ours get their food before us. Granted, they did only order salads, but it still galled to see them eating before us...

Could have been better. When I have to look for my waiter twice, then service falls to good. Fried chicken was on the dry side, wait person told me it was not dry before I ordered it. No one raved about their orders so I am assuming it was good. Thus, my reason for 3 star rating.

  • Visit to SF from out of town.

    Dined on 3/15/2013
Visit to SF from out of town. My sister & I wanted to see the Bay Bridge lights as I saw Perry's listed as a "great spot to view". Made early on-line reservations, then realized that with the time change it would not be dark when we were dining, so called & changed-they accommodated for a later time on a Friday night. Then running late due to traffic, called & they accommodated AGAIN. Got there, noticed an empty table by the window, asked if we could sit there-the head waiter said "certainly, follow me". Food was delicious with ample portions (I had the half chicken breast, sister had the pasta). Finished up wine & dessert while watching the lights of the bridge. Awesome. Prices decent for SF too. Minor issue: tables are close together.

Even though food was good - was disappointed by. hostess attitude. 2 weeks in advance requested bridge view. Hostess tried to stick us in a corner with absolutely no view of the bridge. She could tell we weren't the idiots she was treating us like and we were about to leave. We asked about a table outside and she accomodated that.

Perry's is a great place for the business lunch with a moderate price tag. It's not going to bowl anyone over with its cuisine or ambiance, but it serves delicious food at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere. I treat it as my go-to place for those business occasions when places like Boulevard or One Market would be over the top. It also provides handy valet parking, so if your guests are coming by car from out of town it's an easy place to meet for lunch just off the Embarcadero.

Wholesome food. It is nice to find a menu where my entire family found something they actually liked and ate everything. Lamb shanks, Ahi tuna burger, chicken and biscuits, fish entree. Food you might not be inclined to make at home. Service is great, food is great. This is the third time we have eaten at Perrys and everything is consistent! Expect full restaurant once the Bay Bridge light show begins.

    FoodyVIP
    Dined on 2/10/2013
Perry's is a good stand-by, but I'm thinking more for tourists and not locals. The service isn't great. The food was okay - nothing outstanding. We were there for brunch and we had to ask for warm ups on the coffee, we had to ask for our juice, we had to ask for more cream for the coffee, etc. While the food was served quickly, it didn't appear that checking on tables to see what they may need was a high priority throughout the meal. Not sure if I'd go back - but I'm guessing they have a built-in clientele from the neighborhood hotels and due to the waterfront/Embarcadero location.

The food was not very good... it was okay. It's a hit or miss with Perry's some days with the food. If you try a dish and like it...and you go again, stick to what you know. Some members in my group were not impressed with the food quality. The burgers could be more juicy, the wings could be fresher, and the drinks should not be so watered down. We paid $10.00 for water drinks basically. On the upside, the scene was chill, very nice, clean and gave you the feeling of afternoon fun-time. Very nice place to impress someone, granted that the food is good that day :)

The combination of very good food and an exceptional waiter made for a very enjoyable weekeday lunch. There is good energy in the space--busy enough to feel bustling but not so loud as to prevent easy conversation. The food choices are not overly broad, so if you're looking for a gastronomic treat, go elsewhere. If you want a good burger or a surprisingly good chopped or Cobb salad, this is your place.

Perry's has been one of my favorite restaurants since moving back to Northern CA in 2005, when it was located at the Galleria. I have taken family and friends to the new location numerous times including for Thanksgiving a couple years ago. I LOVE this restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious and full of flavor; it's obviously prepared by chefs who really understand food and care about the product they are serving. The service, from hostess to manager to server to buser is impeccable. Everyone is so dedicated to their role that the entire experience is 100% delightful.

Perry's has been a standard for me for years. I've always had a decent meal, well prepared, and very good service (I always sit on the Embarcadero side of the restaurant). This time, I ordered sole (one of my favorites) and it was mushy, so I sent it back. I was brought a replacement -- and frankly, it wasn't much better. So, I was quite disappointed. My friend ordered the fish special and said it was delicious. Maybe the cook had an off night. I would definitely go back.

Went here for a business lunch, wasn't the first time I've come, sure won't be my last. I had the Mahi Mahi for my entree, which was the special for the day. It rested on a bed of steamed baby spinach and fingerling potatoes. The Ahi Fish Tacos we had were ok, the taco shells were a little too hard, but the ahi tartare was great. Good spot for business lunch.

Basic food, nothing great. There was a lack of service, waitress didn't check on us after our meals were delivered. There were 2 things wrong with the order and I had to flag her down. Banquette seating in front was too close together, no privacy for your conversation. There were tables for 4 that sat empty the entire time, just in case that "rush" came in, which it didn't. They would have been better off staggering the tables for 2 instead of cramming us together. It would have made for a more enjoyable time.

I have been coming to Perry's for years and have always had a great experience. I went with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday, unfortunately the service we received was the worst I ever had at Perry's. Upon arriving I gave the hostess my name for the reservation and she showed us to our table and I asked her if we could have a booth since there were 3 booths available and she said no the booths were closed in a very cold and unfriendly tone. We waited almost 10 minutes for our waitress to come take our order once she did we had another long wait for drinks and food. I felt extremely disappointed and embarassed for recommending Perry's as my friends had never been there and the service was horrible. I won't be coming back

This was our second time here; we planned it based on our excellent first experience, and we were pleased to find that it was every bit as good this time. We enjoyed the lamb shank, where the meat fell off the bone and every bite was flavorful, and the chicken with biscuits, which was a chicken-pot-pie lover's perfect plate. The wine was half-price on a Saturday night, so we also enjoyed a very nice Argentine Malbec. The bread pudding dessert was moist and delicious, rating very highly with our bread pudding fan at the table. Service was excellent.
