Diner Reviews
  • "Every time we come to Galena we make Perry Street our most important stop. Love it every time."

  • "The menu wasn't extravagant, but the choices were difficult as everything sounded amazing. We each got a great glass of wine, and shared an appetizer of smoked salmon and smoked trout. The serving of trout was amazing, but a little lacking in quantity. I ordered the veal, and my wife ordered the duck breast. Both meals were wonderful. The owner then came and was talking to us about how he had gotten all of his beautiful brass pieces that he has, and told us about the one that was directly above my head. He was very personable and friendly. He went over the desserts, and were able to choose one. The only complaint was the couple a few tables away, who brought their rowdy 3 year old daughter to their anniversary dinner."

  • "You can tell the chef is passionate about what he does through his incredibly detailed description of how he prepares each dish."

  • "Amazing food and service!! The St. Lucia special was great."

  • "We were visiting from out of town, and Perry Street Brasserie is awesome. From the oysters to the soup to the entrees to the dessert (the chocolate cup is to die for), our meal was outstanding. I had the duckling breast and lamb kebab in a tropical fruit chutney; it was sublime. I've never tasted duck that was this good. The other member of the party had the special, which was lobster, shrimp, and scallops St. Lucia, which was in a white wine, curry, coconut milk, and mango chutney sauce. This was also fantasitc. Our server, I believe her name is Heather, had a wonderful personality and her great service truly enhanced our experience. We met the owner/chef and I have to say he is a culinary artist. We will definitely return!"

  • "When my wife and I go to what we are told is a gourmet restaurant we have certain expectations. Price is not an issue if the quality and presentation of the food is pleasing. Perry Street was less than our expectations. We found a wonderful bottle of wine.... and 5 minutes later were informed that the restaurant was out of that. Didn't the waiter already know that? My wife's French onion soup was watery and the cheese - which did not appear to be gruyere - was sticky and clumpy. My main course was overcooked. We passed on dessert as we had no confidence. The meal would have been great for Applebees..... but that is not what we expected."

  • "We were absolutely blown away by this little restaurant on Perry Street in Galena. Everything about our experience was perfect and top notch. The only thing I would add is if you would like a similar experience at Prry Street Brasserie; you had better hurry! Word is that Steve is going to retire in a couple years so get on it! Tony and Amber"

  • "Interesting menu and everything was great. Service was attentive and friendly. Owner came out to chat. Would definitely go back."

  • "This is the third time we have been to Perry Street and each time has been great. The food and service is fantastic. My wife loves the steaks and I have had their St Luci special (sea food dish with amazing spices) twice and loved it both times. Save room for desert because they have some killers."

  • "We were greated by a radiant smile from a beautiful lady who seated us. Our server DJ was outstanding only to be topped by our food. I was in heaven from the app to our outrageous dessert. I wished I lived closer. An outstanding venue I will return to."

  • "The sous chef was called in to cook on Friday night as the chef was unable to work. The sous chef did a fine job with my St Lucia special (scallop, shrimp and lobster served in a yellow curry broth). My husband enjoyed his kobe steak with foie gras and duck sausage. We started with the appetizer sampler and ended with the carrot cake dessert. Everything was very good except dessert. The cake had more spice than I would expect in a carry cake, and the frosting was more of a buttercream than cream cheese, which I would have preferred. The cocktails were creative and the wine list was diverse. Overall, a solid choice for dinner."

  • "While judging this quaint little restaurant as I walked in, I didn't realize the exquisite dining experience that was to come. I selected this place based on OpenTable reviews and I am so happy I went. It is easily the best restaurant for foodies in Galena. Loved every part of my meal, including a fantastic dessert. This place reminds me of some of the small flavorful restaurants off Venice Beach in CA. I will always make reservations for Perry Street Brasserie when I am in Galena."

  • "Fantastic service! All servers were friendly, well informed about the menu, attentive but not intrusive. Food what very good - what I'd expect at $30+ entrees. Wine service needs improvement. I would expect glasses of at least Riedel restaurant grade and what I got was Libby style glassware. Wine filled to the rim on white flutes and over halfway on red wines. No possibility to swirl! Time to upgrade!"

  • "Excellent food and service. Eating at Perry St. has become a must do every time we visit Galena. Highly recommend!"

  • "Did not care for the breaded salmon, never had salmon that was breaded before. Did not choose another dish because many were served in a sauce on top of rice, etc. My husband and I both like items separate with no sauce. Caesar salad was limp. Ambiance was nice and staff was very friendly, but I personally did not care for menu options and service was a bit slow."

  • "It is a definite place to dine when in Galena. Our first visit was last year and knew we would return this year on our vacation. Great menu with something for everyone and all delicious. We would definitely return again."

  • "Our latest dining experience was wonderful. The restaurant is charming, the service professional and friendly. Chef Steve is always putting a new twist on the preparation of staples like filets of beef, pork chops, tuna and vegetarian dishes. Wednesday night the special was Cobia from the Gulf. My husband and I thought we were in Florida not the Midwest. Desserts are fantastic and there is something for chocolate lovers or those who want just something sweet to end the experience. The Creme Brûlée will make you want to return to Galena as soon as possible! This restaurant is a "must go to" for those who love to dine."

  • "This restaurant was delightful and intimate . The veal franchise was tender and flavorful. The special for the evening had tender scallops that were cooked perfectly. The desserts are delicious especially the Banoffee. The staff was welcoming and accommodating."

  • "What a gem! We are frequently in Galena and never new about it, so we were very surprised to learn they had been there for 16 years! The food was way beyond the rest of the area, gourmet standard and carefully prepared from selected natural ingredients. Highly recommmended!"

  • "This place was special. Matthew greeted us and talked to us at our table. The food was wonderful, with a menu that changes monthly in keeping with the seasons. The wine list was good, with a recommended Hilary Goldschmidt Cab that was easy to drink and reasonably priced. The best was yet to come when Steve the chef and owner joined us to talk about their signature dessert. It was chocolate and fabulous adorned with a beautiful chocolate butterfly. I won't say anything more so the surprise isn't ruined. Save room! Steve lingered with us and talked wine, whiskey and cognac for almost an hour. What a lovely man as was his son Matthew. We were there on a Friday night, Saturday was sold out! Book a trip to Galena just to go to Perry Street."

  • "One of the best restaurants I have ever experienced. Top notch service and Steve is an amazing chef with warm humor and wonderful stories to top off an amazing evening. From the soup to the dessert, all was a mouth watering, firing of taste buds with each bite. The steak and the seafood special made you want to try the entire menu. Wonderful !!!"

  • "Our visit to the Perry St Brasserie was an incredible experience and perhaps one of the best anniversary dinners we have ever had! Matthew and Stephen were wonderful hosts and made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. Very personable service with an informal touch that made us feel very much at home. The food was tremendous, had St Lucia (lobster, scallops, shrimp with medium spicy curry) and it was outstanding. Also had red snapper with goat cheese topping. Truly amazing and delightful! And the chocolate "balloon" dessert, sorry Matthew I don't remember what it was called, was like nothing we have ever experienced before! Again it was tremendous!"

  • "Excellent preparation and presentation. Iowa pork is an outstanding dish. This is a small space but seating is not crowded. The brasses add an interesting touch to the ambiance and are interesting on their own. Galena has a number of very good eateries but put this down as a must. Outstanding service. Their is much here to enjoy. "

  • "My husband and I come to the Perry street Brasserie as often as we can. The food is exceptional! Certainly, the best in Galena and maybe in the Chicagoland area! Since reservations are often necessary, I loved how I could go online to secure a date and time. The Brasserie NEVER disappoints; ) !"

  • "I am often disappointed when I eat out because I cook well at home. Not so, at Penny Street Brasserie, my meal was excellent. Everything, from the olive oil, Parmesan cheese and oregano for bread dipping, to my entree then dessert was wonderful. I'm usually pleased if at least one course is satisfactory, when eating out, this time I was overjoyed. Many thanks, we will be back when we visit Galena again. "

  • "The wait staff was very attentive and the food was divine. We had the Saint Lucia special and the veal, goat cheese, and prosciutto entree. They were both excellent, piping hot, and left us full but we managed to find room for the tres leeches cake! Amazing!!"

  • "Perry Street has a distinctive style. The ingredients are fresh and very well prepared. The bread basket is wonderful with the olive oil dipping blend. Each dish has a unique grain mix that just works with whatever protein it's pared with. I had the St.Lucien special with scallops, shrimp, lobster in a coconut milk and curry broth and couldn't stop from finishing it, even though that meant giving up dessert! My husband had the steak and mentioned that the horseradish butter was very subtle. The big surprise was the amazing nut crusted potato croquette... So creamy and delicious. A must have. We enjoyed every bite of our meal - this restaurant is extremely consistent and producing a high quality product that is totally worth the price."
