Diner Reviews
  • "Food was outstanding aside from some minor nitpicks. Service was great as well as ambiance."

  • "I hope a wonderful lobster roll. It was better than ordering a whole lobster because there was no work needed to get the meat. It was perfectly done. It was more tender than broiled lobster tail. This is how I'm eating lobster from now on. The roll toasty and the lettuce fresh and there was drawn butter for dipping or to drizzle on. Yum! My husband had a banana pancake with blueberries and bacon. It was so huge he could eat only half. We'd definitely go back."

  • "We all enjoyed our meals and will certainly return soon."

  • "Perlas is a great restaurant. It's vibrant and can be a little hectic and noisy, but the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect for what they are trying to create here. Its one of my favorite restaurants."

  • "Great food and ambiance. Service was very good. I would recommend to my foodie friends"

  • "We dined here with fiends for dinner. We started with cocktails and I chose poorly. Our server was happy to reurn. Y drink and I chose better the second time. Who knew Mezcal tasted like burned rubber! Lesson learned. Brussel sprouts were a standout. Entrees were enjoyed by all. Salted butterscotch pots de creme was a HUGE hit. It was so good we all wished we had our own."

  • "Husband and I met a dear friend for dinner to catch up. Good food. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. Nearly impossible to hear each other. Will try again since night we went was an unexpected rain and the lack of patio shoved everyone inside."

  • "I love their dinner entrees! they prepare the fish differently every time i have been there. Everything I have ordered is superb! The desserts are also unique and a must have!"

  • "Excepting the short wait beyond our reservation time, our Perla's night ran pretty wonderfully. We built our meal via the appetizer and sides menus a la tapas and were rewarded for that choice. Food came out very quickly and everything ordered was tasty. Sides were griddle cakes and lobster/cheese grits. Grits win (no thanks to the chunks of lobster mixed within), but a close race overall. Ahi tuna tartar was enjoyably fresh and tasty, but paled in comparison to the oysters/bacon combo, the grilled octopus, and the steamed mussels. Egads, those three were good. For appetizers, all the portions were good sized so the two of us left full, happy, and already planning our return visit."

  • "The food was great other than the Swordfish which for to taste was overdone and dry. The very helpful and cheerful waitperson spoke with the manager and offered the three of us free desserts since we chose not to wait to have replacements cooked. We learned we should have asked for the fish to be cooked medium-rare or medium at most. We loved both the crispy, fried just-right oysters, raw oysters and fried okra and one of our party was crazy about the salted-caramel butterscotch pots de creme."

  • "We finally got a chance to try Perla's and we're not dissapointed! Had the poco perlas appetizer AMAZING! And their fish selection was phenomenal. Let's just say my next birthday restaurant is going to be Perla's ..."

  • "LOve the food - wonderful presentation and superb flavors. Very expensive for entrees tho.."

  • "My husband and I and many of our friends love the food, service and dining at Perla's. I recommend Perla's to everyone, especially for a special occasion."

  • "Tomato gazpacho with crab was very tasty - they even divided it for two for $1 up charge. Mussels were outstanding and plentiful. Had the Hendricks special martini with sage, lemon, and lime - in fact the husband had two. That constituted an ample lunch, and we didn't need to order more. When we come to Austin, we always have to eat at Perla's. Parking in the garage behind is convenient and ticket is validated. I don't think you'll be disappointed - we never are!"

  • "I love perla's, but really enjoy lunch and brunch more so than dinner. It's bright and cheerful atmosphere during the day makes me feel like i am in California. The shrimp Cobb Dallas is always excellent as well as the fish and chips or drum sandwich. Great fries too!"

  • "We had a business lunch and the food was fabulous followed by great desserts. Clients can't wait to go back. Fried oysters were to die for when paired with a side of grits."

  • "I have a little doggie so she comes everywhere with us so I value beautiful patio dining. The staff serves her water with the rest of us and the service was impeccable for the rest of the night. The fish is always fresh as can be and always try for the specials bc those are here for a limited time and season! The halibut cheeks was seriously one of the best fish dishes I've ever had in my life. Top notch. Oh and get the flour less chocolate torte. I don't even like chocolate. I bring all my guests here."

  • "Great food and ambiance in the charming South Congress district of Austin. I would frequent if I lived there."

  • "Really enjoyed the dining experience. The redfish and barrel fish we ordered were outstanding."

  • "My wife got a $150 gift card as a present from her company. We got a babysitter and headed out. Drinks: caesar and a sea turtle. Drinks: both quite good - caesar: strong and spicy; sea turtle: very refreshing... tipsy strawberry lemonade. Starters: house-made pop tarts (not upscale, didn't fit the menu, sprinkles tasted cheap) and a shrimp/white fish ceviche (light, zesty, very fresh). Main: crab florentine (amazing crab, english muffin was buttery/crisp, perfect poached egg) and lobster omelette (light, though eggs overcooked, lobster was very good). Overall: sadly underwhelming. Seafood was incredible, but each dish left something to be desired. $110 overall, left huge tip because no return expected."

  • "Among the countless choices of food options in Austin, Perla's should be on your list. Great fresh fish options. Tuna was cooked perfectly. Wellfleet options scrumptious. Halibut was lovely. Service was attentive and considerate throughout."

  • "Best seafood (more fresh than most places in San Francisco), great ambience, and the service is so personable and amazing it makes me crinch (means I want to tip at least 20%!) The perlas seafood platter and the lobster pasta are my must haves each time."

  • "Food was phenomenal from appetizer to entree to sides to dessert. Great service."

  • "Food and ambiance is always terrific - however it's also very pricey. "

  • "I have been to Perla's several times, and I am never disappointed by the food or the service. There are so few restaurants in Texas with such a diverse selection of fresh seafood. I've ordered a different fish entree every time. Beyond the main dish, the cocktails are always unique and unexpected, and I still have yet to beat the Salted Butterscotch Pots de Creme for dessert. It is one of the best desserts I've had anywhere in the world."

  • "Perlas was great. The sides were off this time; brussel sprouts and the corn were lacking in flavor and drenched in oil. The shrimp cocktail, salads and calamari made up for for the oily sides. Make sure to get a michilada too! "

  • "Perla's never lets me down. We dined with another couple and everyone loved their meal. We shared the octopus, tuna tartare, and gazpacho with crab for starters. Everyone had a different fish for dinner. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and had a great personality."

  • "We love Perlas, from the atmosphere to the vibrant scene and great waitstaff to the delicious food! The waiter talked us into trying new oysters and they were delicious and briny and made me order another 6. The lobster roll was brimming w fresh lobster and the slaw was a great compliment. My boyfriend had the kampichi(sp) and it melted in your mouth with the verde sauce. We split our favorite dessert which you have to try: the butterscotch salted pot de crème, just perfect in every bite with the crunchy cookies. Cocktails were so yummy and inventive and I could have had a few more except I had to get home semi sober! Yes it's a little pricy but not outrageous to me at all for what you get. Will always go back."

  • "We had an excellent meal and experience. Not being an oyster aficionado, I asked our server for some recommendations. Donovan not only made some recommendations, but could describe the likely differences to expect. His service was excellent the whole meal, too. The halibut my wife had was perfectly cooked, and the risotto with avocado was an interesting and creamy accompaniment. My Gulf fish "on the half shell" was outstanding, too. It's mostly grilled skin side down until crispy, thus the "shell" notion. Stays moist that way. The grilled Brussels sprouts side was nice, on skewers they were not over or under cooked. Chocolate dessert to top it off was a very creative combo of white and dark items, quite decorative, too. "

  • "I enjoy finding restaurants who understand that dining out is more than just putting a plate of food in front of you. Perla's offered a unique experience that was above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. I eat w/my eyes first and want to feel like for my business is appreciated. We left Perla's feeling full, and the quality and taste of the meal was worth every penny. It's definitely a place that we will go when we have a need for some food pampering. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The meaty shrimp cocktail had a zippy cocktail sauce with a capital Z. Talk about opening your sinuses! The scallop pozole (soup) was good but didn't blow me away. The redfish on the halfshell was a decadent buttery piece of heavenly fish! You must squeeze the grilled lemon over it, it's good. Husband had the swordfish and he said it was excellent. We split the lobster grits and they were very rich, a good amount of lobster meat but they were disappointingly lumpy. For $8 they shouldn't be lumpy, but they were worth it. The best part of the meal was the deep fried caramel pudding dessert. I didn't realize that "heaven" and "caramel pudding" mean the same thing. WOW! Order that, eat it, savor it and LOVE it! It's that good."

  • "Excellent dinner we had the oysters. Diasapointed that there was no ceviche available as an appetizer and that the specaial margarita drink ran out after one round."

  • "Our party of 4 had a wonderful time! Everything we ordered was wonderful- from appetizers to sides to the seafood and drinks and dessert! The only complaint is that the tables are very close together. However the big windows brought in a lot of light to make the space feel bigger. I would say this was my best meal in Austin in the three years I've lived here!"

  • "Second time to Perla's and did not disappoint. Great Wellfleet oysters. Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. Best seafood in Austin. Very attentive service. The placed was packed but food came out quickly. Snapper, scallops and shrimp all great. Nice butterscotch dessert, too. White wine was nice and cold. Can't beat this place"

  • "We couldn't resist ordering multiple items, crab cakes, crab Florentine, homemade pop tarts, baked brandy grapefruit - it was all spectacular. Truly delicious and such a great atmosphere. The overall ambiance and experience of this restaurant was my favorite part of my trip to Austin. I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu."
