A word from Perbacco
Sleek and modern with one foot firmly in the Old World is the feeling at Perbacco. The restaurant boasts a brick wall original to the historic 1913 Hind building, with other touches such as a bar top and floor tiles made from white Carrara marble. With 16 seats at the bar and 7 more intimate tables, Perbacco creates an atmosphere for a glass of wine or a light bite. Perbacco also features 2 dining rooms, one on the main floor and a smaller one on the Mezzanine, which has the added allure of serving as "theater", with windows to watch all the action in the kitchen below.
Chef Staffan Terje strives to cook the finest food reflecting the Italian regions of Piemonte and Liguria. Handcrafted, house-made salami, prosciutto and other meats are featured at the salumi bar. Filled pastas, a tradition in Piemonte, range from the traditional ravioli to the more exotic agnolotti. Main courses feature traditional dishes such as Bollito Misto and milk-braised pork shoulder with Savoy cabbage.

We stayed in San Fran for one week and made sure to hit Perbacco a second time before we left it was so great the first time. I highly recommend the gnocchi with duck - it was amazing! Dessert is too die for as well.

Awesome food. I brought my daughter and Fiancé here while I was visiting on business. I expected a good meal but what we received was an extraordinary meal. Last evening I went to a Michelin two star restaurant; the food at Perbacco was better! Great service. Great time.

The pear and persimmon salad was fabulous, the orecchiette with veal sugo was superb and the brussels sprouts were yummy, but the short ribs with gianduja & hazelnut crust was over the top spectacular. And then, just in case there hadn't been enough of a party in my mouth, we had what they call a salted dark chocolate bonet. When told it was a mousse we almost didn't get it... that would have been a big mistake. Mousse is hardly the word for the pot de creme rich, thick, salted "bonet" over the almond cake which had soaked up vanilla crema and golden caramel. The entire meal was wonderful and the lovely server made the evening perfect.

I had high expectations for this place after reading reviews and Perbacco exceeded expectations! Wow - love this place! We started with the tomato salad and it was good. We shared the duck gnocchi at our lovely waitress's recommendation and it was out of this world. For mains, we had the scallops with cashews - amazing and cooked to perfection; and the veal medallions which were equally as great. Dessert was beautiful and soooo good! We shared the lemon panna cotta and almond cake with pomegranate. So many layers of flavour executed to perfection. Our waitress was great too, honest and helpful and knows the menu well to recommend sharing so we ordered right. San Fran is a long ways from Calgary but this place is worth a return trip!

Hand made pasta, cured meats, fresh picked ingredients, mouth watering cuisine - all that your Grandma would make in Italy. Always make time for Perbacco - esp for local SFers or visitors from out of town. Food is never disappointing. But count on admiring the food more than having a conversation - it can be quite loud when full.

Consistently great in both aspects. Service is always top notch, not over the top. Food choices are great and the pasta / risotto always hits the spot. Getting into the fall / seasonal food is always a treat. The downstairs is noisy, so for client meetings not the best place, but the other aspects makes this a hard to beat place!

I've been here twice now and both the food and drinks have been wonderful both times. The hamachi appetizer was very fresh and the Tajarin (pork ragu over tagliatelle) is lick-your-plate-good. My only (small) compliant was that our server could have been more attentive but generally the service was good. I'm looking forward to coming back again in the future.

When I made reservations, I mentioned it was our anniversary and it would be great if they could seat us in a nice table. When we were seated, it was a nice table, and there was a card from the restaurant wishing us happy anniversary. Then they brought a desert at the end of our meal, without prompting, that had Happy Anniversary beautifully scripted in chocolate on the plat with the desert. And again, I just mentioned the anniversary in passing...wonderful surprise. Food was excellent and wonderful presentation, I would recommend the scallops if they have it on the menu, they were incredible. Service was just right, always there when we needed help, left us alone otherwise. We live 800 miles away, but will certainly be back!

This never happens, some thing is off, some thing does not work. Well, never say never. EVERYTHING was RIGHT about our wonderful dinner at Perbacco on Oct. 4. Unbeknownst to the waiter our husband and I were celebrating our 44th anniversary and I was expecting a decent experience having dined before with friends years ago. Our dinner went way beyond decent into sublime. The appetizers, plum salad and tuna with veal, the two pastas, and the sides of beans and cauliflower have to be eaten to be understood just how complex, favorable and downright delicious they are. The cookie that accompanied our verbena gelato was baked by an Angel...just heavenly! The waiter was extremely professional, the service impeccable. Perfection? YES!

Knowing my wife was going to be a bit late, I called the restaurant on her behalf telling them she would be a bit late--a 2:15 reservation-and was told that they had to be there before 2:30. No further comment was given. She arrived just before 2:30 and was arrogantly told that they had one minute to order, had issues getting drinks, etc and actually got up and went to the door, quite upset after rushing to get to the restaurant. A manager met them and made an attempt to diffuse the situation that never should have happened at a high end restaurant. Once seated again, staff took good care and the food was superb. So guess the restaurant must be much more clear and have substantially better customer service to go with the superb food.

This was my second time at this restaurant and my first for dinner. I knew the food would be amazing based off my first experience, but the overall experience was even better than I could have imagined. We were greeted with a warm and prompt greeting upon entry. Immediately seated and offered a drink order within 2-3 minutes. The server was absolutely lovely; such a sweet and accommodating young woman who was both attentive but conscientious of my girlfriend and I catching up. Again the food was above and beyond: flavorful and fresh. Beverages were dangerously delicious. Excited to bring other friends here and make this a regular experience.

Perbacco is a good place for lunch meetings and group gatherings - and seems 'right-priced' for the financial district (still $$-$$$). The food is savory and flavorful. However, don't expect to have any intense conversations, as the sound level reaches higher decibels, unless you're dining after 1pm.

We have dined at Perbacco many times and it has been one of our "go to" restaurants in SF for some time now. The service this time was attentive, the Sommelier knowledgeable and helpful, but the food was just OK: the salads were unexceptional and the pasta was good, not great, and not as fine as we have come to expect. Given how much we like this restaurant we will give it another try, but both of us were somewhat disappointed about its showing this week.

Weekday with friends . Had pre dinner cocktail, then dinner with wine. Food was quite good, interesting Italian preparations. But cocktails and wine was ridiculously expensive. Total bill for 4 with tip was $345, 3 cocktails and 1 bottle of wine! The wine page which offered wine at three prices by the glass, by 1/4 and oddly by 3/4 of a bottle, which I assumed was for a full bottle. It was priced at $38 but when bill came it was $58 but the wine steward never explained this nor indicated it was not a bottle but an odd 3/4 of a bottle. I do not recall ever seeing wine offered like this at other restaurants here or in Europe. Left a bad taste. Doubt I will return. Too many other good restaurants in SF.

Three of us dined early on a Tuesday evening which is a good time as the restaurant is often full later and quite noisy (based on a visit shortly after it opened.) The roasted octopus first course was excellent and, unlike experiences elsewhere, the octopus portion was generous. My wife's duck was among the best she had ever experienced---ample, moist, cooked to a "T." My son and I each had the stuffed quail breast. What a treat! When one thinks quail breast one thinks small plate. Not so here. What had to have been a rather large breast is carefully stuffed with a chanterelle mushroom mousse encased in swiss chard and served on a bed of corn passata ( a very smooth and creamy polenta) and huckleberry jus. Outstanding!
