Pera Soho expands upon the exploration of Eastern Mediterranean cuisine first embarked upon by midtown’s Pera Mediterranean Brasserie when it opened in late 2006 on Madison Avenue to become a “Top 5 Newcomer” in the 2008 Zagat Survey. A downtown-ized version of the original restaurant with an edgier approach to food and ambiance and with the pursuit of pleasing all five senses, Pera Soho embraces the Pera hallmark of presenting a culinary experience firmly rooted in centuries-old Eastern Mediterranean traditions, while incorporating contemporary Western trends, seasoned with New York City gustatory flair, without any compromise of the essential integrity of the food.

Pera Soho offers some of the signature dishes that made the first Pera so popular, while also taking diners’ palates on a more adventurous journey through the Eastern Mediterranean in a tri-fold setting: indoors, private garden, and rooftop patio for private events.

We booked a table for 09:30, which is late, but suited our plans, and we got poor service, not so good wine, the bread was dry and our waitor left work before our meal ended.. In addition the bar closed before we were finished eating so we could not order more wine if we wanted.. The whole experience at Pera was a bummer, since we also went there for the rooftop terrace and it was closed. Hopefully you will have a better experience than us at Pera, but I am sorry that I will not recommend this restaurant to others..."

  • "Unfortunatley we could not sit outside due to rain. But inside was just as good. Service was very attentive and friendly! Food (we had the mezze menu) was very good. I did not like so much the calamaris but I guess that was me since my friends liked it. The meat was excellent. Would go here again."

  • "Service was slow, took us two hours to get our main course, but our server, Ulysses, was fantastic, and the atmosphere was conducive to conversation, so we did not mind the wait. Ulysses profusely apologized for our slow service and comped some of our food and wine. I would definitely return in the future. Food was absolutely outstanding, and the joke was it had to be flown in directly from Turkey, which is why it took so long to come out."

Overall we were happy and might go back again. rainy day, but Outdoor seating looked really cool, would come by for that to try out."

  • "The service was slow and disorganized (we waited forever for just water and the pauses between courses was unacceptably long). The food was fine but really nothing special. Chicken and rice dish had mushy overcooked rice and chicken sloppily piled on top - like something you would get at a food cart. I have had very positive experiences at the midtown location, so was not expecting to be so disappointed. Perhaps it is the Soho effect - with such a prime location, they don't have to try too hard. Wish I had better things to say about the service and food because the outdoor space is lovely - secluded and airy - you feel far from NYC. Go for drinks and eat elsewhere. "

  • "Sigrid, our server, has difficulty explaining the dishes. This is the second time she's exhibited this problem. She'll describe a dish and then after it's been ordered and arrives different from her description, she backtracks. Management needs to speak with her about accurately describing the dishes. If she says a salad "is on a bed of greens" or that an entree "comes with bulgur", then they should arrive that way. No excuses."

  • "How rare it is in NYC to find an outdoor space, set back from the street and so spacious. Plus the service was perfect! Not too much on top of us, but there when we needed it! Food was absolutely delicious and fabulous specialty drinks. Would go back in a heartbeat! "

  • "I am a frequent diner at Pera and I love the food, ambience and service. On this evening, however, there was a large private party in the main room thus the noise level was unbelievable! Even though we were placed in a small private room with doors that closed, it still made for a pretty uncomfortable dining experience. I looked forward to a nice date night with my husband, but i must say that on this night this was not the case. Thankfully, I will not allow this experience to keep me from returning to the restaurant"

  • "This experience ruined my whole weekend. A friend was visiting from abroad, we waited for our order for more than one-hour!! The make waiter had an awful attitude, We though it seems like the job was beneath him!!. The manager and the front hosts a total disaster, they did not care!! By the by, the food was overcook, poorly presented, was a nightmare. Please avoid this place, they do not care about their customers, service, nothing. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! "

  • "We had a large group of 10 and reserved for an 8pm meal. We arrived on time and they had the table ready for us. The outdoor court looked great but it was a bit cold to eat outside. Service was good. I did not get to sample any appetizers. Every entree was ridiculously small. I am not a big eater, but it is shameful to only serve 3 small bite size pieces on one of the signature dishes (CENTER-CUT SIRLOIN “SHASHLIK") and charge $31. The SIGNATURE FRESH LAMB “ADANA” for $27 was one shish kabob and the AUBERGINE could fit in a small cereal bowl. We went to this place because of reviews and are very disappointed of other "reviewers" giving it 5 stars. "

  • "Very disappointing. We had reserved table for 6 but on arrival we had to wait until they put the 2 tables together. we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to our table and yet another 15 minutes to get our order of drinks. We had to address to the manager to get our drinks. Both the classic mimosa and bloody mary's were so watered down that we had to order red wine sangria and insisted - very little ice.... The bread rolls arrived when we were half way thru our meal. Pathetic service - we were really embarrassed as our guests were from europe and we had from previous experiences expected better service. Two dishes were not available - one was simple ice cream!"

  • "This is the second time I went to Pera for brunch. First time was good. This time I was with my friend and her 2 year old daughter...and brunch was awful! We got a good table and the waiter took our order within 10min. We ordered OJ, it was hot outside. We asked the waiter many times for the juice.. Took them 45min to open the Tropicana bottle to put juice in 2 glasses. Then the food came and it didn't look good. The fries were over-cooked, the salad was taste-less and the presentation was awful. Should have taken pictures.. Paid $60 for 2 brunch and bad service. I will never go back."

  • "We went for brunch on a very cold winter day, the place was pretty empty, however the staff was super friendly and our waiter was really attentive, so we still had a great time. The food was hit or miss - I loved my salad but my friends were less than impressed with their entrees. It seems to have a gorgeous outside space, so I would definitely come back on a nice summer day to sit outside with cocktails and snacks - the service is that good that it deserves another chance!"

  • "Right near the Holland Tunnel which is great for those who come from NJ. Walking up to the restaurant, the entrance wasn't obvious. The food is good, I enjoyed the butternut squash soup and the Adana lamb. The service was excellent. I would hope so because on a Friday night there weren't many patrons. The servers and host were very attentive. At the end of getting the bill, the server gave a card for the guests to review the experience at Pera which was nice but some might not want to take the time to fill it out, but I didn't mind. Overall. visit and enjoy Pera Soho."

  • "My fiance and I were looking forward to dining here for the first time and for the most part we had a great time until the end. We had just finished paying our bill and in the midst of finishing our champagne, when either a restaurant manager or maitre d told us to get up due to them needing the table. This was extremely rude. There were other open tables behind us and after spending a lot of money this is how we were treated. After we confronted this person, all that was said to us is that we can finish our drink at the bar. Very poor customer service."

  • "Sat promptly and OT request for table out of the way accommodated as best they could Live Jazz, singer was meh, musicians were great but they took a lot of breaks and left early... Beautifully decorated, romantic lighting and gorgeous hanging lights over bar Food came like clockwork although it felt the server was waiting for us to finish our bottle of wine before he took our order... Delicious strwbry champagne and perfectly portioned menu, risotto a little undercooked but the lobster saved it Two sets of awful guests on one side- as an ex-restaurant worker they were horrible (and cheap) and on Valentines! Poor server! I walked out with a rose, balloons, my date and a smile on my face. Overall an excellent Valentines, thank you Pera!"

  • "I've had drinks in the summer at Pera Soho and thought it was time to take it inside. I love the ambiance of the place. It's such a warm and inviting space, really pleasant on the eyes. My friend and I were the only table as we got there late and the weather was in the single digits. Our server Crystal was very attentive and professional and didn't show the least bit of annoyance at our need to linger over coffee and dessert while her shift was clearly over. I think Pera Soho is a lil neighborhood gem and I hope the summer outdoor crowd comes "in" for the winter. I will definitely be visiting again, if only for the baklava made with pistachios instead of walnuts! Deeeeelish..."

  • "While traveling in the US you embrace local traditions, so we went for Thanksgiving dinner "en famille"! And chose Pera Soho for it's review in Time Out NY and for it's location which was very convenient for us. The Thanksgiving menu was adequate to the season with 2 choices per course and a vegetarian option and was overall good: the turkey moist and juicy and the risotto very tasty. The starter salad was extremely acid, though: too much vinegar. The desserts were all good and not too sweet. Overall a good experience except for the bill that almost doubled the price of each menu with taxes, service and extras and we drank less than 1 glass of sparkling wine per person. But it is probably an american thing that we were not familiar with."

  • "I was so excited to try this place out for my birthday this year. Unfortunately, while my husband and I had a nice evening out, the food was really disappointing. This is my favorite type of cuisine, so I must admit hat I have high expectations. That being said, if you're going to charge what Pera charges, you better serve high quality food. We ordered the chicken rolls for an appetizer, which I found to be dry and overcooked. My husband ordered the lamb rack for his main. The lamb was cooked nicely, but the chickpea mash was extremely bland and the eggplant fondue was too sweet. My least favorite dish was the dumplings. All I could taste was the dumpling dough (which was much too thick) and the overpowering yogurt sauce."
