A word from Pera
For freshness and flavor you can't go wrong by aiming for a classic Mediterranean cuisine appreciated around the world. At the heart of a Mediterranean meal is fresh quality ingredients down to the olive. Pera chooses to take that aim, and where possible we will use local farms, as well as locally grown produce. In selecting our lamb and beef cuts we strive to make grass feeding top on the list.

Add to this Pera's offering of regional breads and desserts made in-house with a full array of compatible California wines, Greek, Turkish, and domestic beers. And finally top it all off with Turkish coffee.

  • "Went there last night and had several dishes, first the zucchini cakes with a pink yogurt sauce on the side...Very tasty,wild scallops which was very good, excellent lamb kabobs and the girl had halibut which was cooked to perfection. sophisticated wine list, we had Turkish Syrah which was very very good wine, and perfect match with food. To top off the perfect meal we tried the chocolate melting cake which was out of this world. The staff were very friendly and we met the owner who are a really nice folk. We will be back since we enjoyed it so much."

  • "Pera offer more than your regular neighborhood restaurant.is way better than your regular Mediterranean restaurants.. they menu is very interesting and diverse. food preparation and presentation is top notch. service is friendly yet top class. ambiance is warm and romantic. wine list is full with very interesting wines around the world. heirloom salad, sea food stew, Iskenderr(!) and finish with warm chocolate lava cake.. cant wait to go back."

  • "Delicious food and spectacular staff! Pera is the perfect addition to the restaurant strip on 18th street. I have been longing for a place to get a Turkish coffee and/or cay! The staff is very attentive and courteous. we had roasted lamb dish and salmon. both were cooked and presented outstanding. Best baklava in my life, a must for dessert!"

  • "I was visiting San Francisco from New York City, and I was very excited to go back to Pera. Unfortunately, this time the restaurant didn't deliver. I took the biggest issue with the appetizer -- curry scallops. It was under-cooked, smelled fishy, had a bitter / unpleasant taste. I don't recommend this dish. For the main entree, I had a curry chicken filo pastry. It was the only good thing during my dinner. Despite the entree, I couldn't get over the terrible appetizer. I will not be returning to Pera."

  • "This place did not disappoint! I made reservations for a date night with my fiancé and I must say that it's a perfect place for a date! Very romantic and intimate. We ordered the heirloom salata as our starter and as the main course I had their famous Pera talas boregi and my fiancé ordered the halikarnas(sea food stew). Everything was so juicy and perfectly cooked! We had such a great waiter. He was jolly and very nice. Everything was perfect."

  • "Our party of four enjoyed all of the entrees: boneless lamb shank and halibut specials, as well as the Mousakka off of the menu. The tomato salad's blended flavors were a real treat. The stuffed Turkish apricots melded flavors of the 'cots, mascarpone cheese, and cream, and and chopped pistachios--the dish was mildly sweet and built to entrance the palate, not clobber you with a huge dose of sugar. The Turkish wine was affordable and matched well with all of the dishes. Ample neighborhood parking and personable staff were nice pluses. My "Quiet" noise rating might be attributed to the fact that we dined before many other diners arrived. But even at half-capacity, normal conversation was unstrained."

  • "... is how the service was, despite being one of only three groups in the restaurant. The main courses were tasty, but the appetizers were far overpriced for their size (the spanakopita, for instance, was only two small pieces). Finally, we were hurried out even though the restaurant was technically open for another 20 minutes and no other diners were waiting. We would not return, especially given all the other good options in the neighborhood, and are surprised that it has such a high rating."

  • "Wednesday night they have great half off price on all wines. we got Neyers zin for around $29, which was one of the best zin ever had... ..I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to pop into Pera when we've eaten our way up and down this stretch. Nice, clean, bright, cheerful ambiance inside (looks small from the outside but the restaurant stretches back). Additional sidewalk tables outside.. ..I ordered the Bird's Nest, a vegetarian dish of tomatoes, olives, peppers, onions, and cream cheese layered between sheets of phyllo dough and served on a small pool of spicy tomato sauce. AMAZING! My carnivorous companion got the lamb an chicken shish kebabs, which he said were great, but after trying a bite of my dish he was instantly jealous."

  • "Yesrerday was my first Pera experience , it was such a nice atmosphere and friendly service.i had PERA TALAS BOREGI which is stuffed phyllo dough with chicken and vegetables, coconut curry sauce underneath.Thinly sliced apple and blackcurrant on top. Pera is definitely worth to try."

  • "I've been in Pera twice and this was my first visit with opentable reservation. We had dinner at Pera with close friend of mine, she was as surprise as me first time she started to taste mezes. We had flaming cheese saganaki(my favorite!)and pan seared curry scallops. Couldn't decide which one was better. Then because my friend really want to try it, we shared a mousakka as our main course which I wasn't big fan of it till yesterday. I guess I've never had the good one before. That white bechamel sauce on the top was so tasty, flavorful and not heavy at all. We crossed the line and finished our dinner with another meze; spanakopita. I also really impressed by rich wine list. Next time we'll try their weekend brunch. God bless Pera!"

I tried the Talas Boregi, phyllo dough stuffed with chicken and vegetables, and was delighted with the presentation and wonderful flavor. The servers are friendly and hospitable and make you feel very welcome during your dining experience."

  • "This is my to-go restaurant to bring guests around in San Francisco. Great ambiance, outstanding service, wonderful flavors. zucchini cakes are simply delicious! The meatballs were in such a delicious spicy tomato sauce and were excellently spiced themselves...we used our bread to mop up all the sauce. The heirloom salad was fresh and bright, taste wonderful. Place very open, with the business dinner table, but yet can be romantic. customer service was top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant to my friends, and I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Turkish and Greek specialties - and not the Usual Things you see on such menus. The Borek was delicious, as was the heirloom salad and the salmon. The yoghurt dessert was excellent. We especially enjoyed a bottle of Turkish Sauvingnon Blanc (Majestik) - delicious and intriguing. The atmosphere is lovely, with high ceilings and understated and lovely decor, and it was blissfully quiet (this was on a Saturday evening from 6-7:30 pm). a real find."

  • "We were in San Francisco for a special occassion, but I hadn't been to Protrero Hill in decades. Finding Pera was indeed a nice surprise. All of the food at Pera was at least very good if not outstanding. The Berogi was the best of the five entrees we tried. The lamb and chicken shish Kebabs were on this case a little overcooked and dry, but the flavors were still outstanding - from what we understand the kebabs are usually among the best items on the menu. The appetizers including the mussels, dolma and flaming cheese (I'm forgetting the name) were outstanding. The baklava was the best of the desserts. We would return without hesitation."

  • "Going out for mediterranean food is something special (not like going for a burger)....Pera turns that around. The menu is broad and the food is both healthy and quality. I had the Lamb Burger......and it was very good (short of excellent because of the bun......which was ordinary) virtually no grease at all. We had dolmas and hummus both again very good. And the salads at Pera are wonderful. Will go back."

  • "Took a large group to Pera for my birthday dinner - it was the perfect spot. The restaurant accommodated a reservation for 16, then was happy to scale down when we had some last-minute cancellations. The staff was friendly and responsive, the food was delicious, and the price was reasonable. We also tried their wine list, and got a great bottle! We ordered it for the... unusual name (not fit to print) and were surprised by how delicious it was! I'd definitely recommend Pera for parties large and small (they also ran a bunch of credit cards for us, which was very kind of them). Bonus: it's a short (though uphill) walk from the 22nd Street Caltrain Station!"

Interesting items on menu...some of which I have seen before... and many with new twists to traditional favorites.   • "A great restaurant for big groups, the dining room floorplan is spacious with ample room in between tables that your neighbor can't eavesdrop on your conversations. Food was solid, but not spectacular. Service was good although their communication between front and back of the house is lacking. Several times we had food we didn't order placed on our table or was asked if we ordered something in their hand."

At Pera, we managed to snag a couple of seats at the bar, where we were served some of the best Greek food we've ever had in SF. Despite the crowd (including a couple of large tables), service was swift and friendly, every dish was delicious, and we left Pera with full tummies and happy attitudes. We will return!"

  • "It is not always that upon my first visit to a restaurant that afterward I tell myself that I must come back again to try the rest of the menu. Although touted as "Turkish" dining, I'd say that it is more of a mixture of Mediterranean cuisines, but clearly done with a flare and delicacy! Every dish that I and my date had was spectacular! And although the wine menu was small it had some eclectic choices that for those folk like myself, who prefer to tread off the beaten track to drink non-local wines, will enjoy. Service was excellent, professional and kindly given. I can't wait to return!"
