Pera is delicious and truly a gem in the culinary wasteland of midtown. Based on the food, I would normally give a thorough recommendation of the restaurant. The grapefruit, avocado, and octopus salad is divine! However, waiting 30 minutes beyond the reservation, when you and your clients arrived early is unacceptable. Having walk-ins seated before you is also unacceptable. Wish it had been a better experience becauseI was hoping this could become my go-to client lunch spot.

At a work lunch, my colleague had reported a nut allergy before ordering the fish sandwich (which we were assured contained no nuts). Halfway through the meal, my colleague started wilting. We opened the bread only to discover...chopped walnuts! We challenged the waiter - who had then AGAIN reassured us there were NO nuts - to bring out the chef. Due to the confusion, the epi-pen was not used. Finally, the waiter came out to confirm those were walnuts, and would he like another dish? By then, he was already in an ambulance! "Due to the inconvenience," the manager removed the sandwich from the bill. Only after I dropped the word "liability" did they waive another 50%?! *Seriously* lacking on the service front all around.

The food at Pera is creative and well prepared. The restaurant has an attractive look with an open kitchen. While the noise level can be quite high, I requested a quiet table for a luncheon meeting through Opentable. The maître d' had flagged this on the reservation and was able to accommodate my request.

Anticipating an important conversation, we requested a table that was quiet enough for an important business lunch. We were given a table that fit the bill and, combined with food, service, and ambiance that were all very good, are happy with our choice for the lunch meeting.

Food was good, seating was beyond uncomfortable which made the meal one I couldn't wait to end! I understand wanting to make the restaurant feel like a lounge, but the seats we were in were far too deep and I'm 5'10". My back was killing me and as such I focused more on that than my food which was good.

Waiter was unattentive and rolled his eyes put off by my husband's request to purchase a different beer after a first sip & decided he didn't like the Turkish spice flavor. As I did not have change & did not want to wait for it, we decided to go ahead & leave a 25% tip. He took it said "be right back" and when I said you can keep the rest - he looked back down at it and turned and walked away without saying thank you. Food was great though. The tables were pushed too close together & we felt too much a part of the intimate conversation next to us!

The internet yielded Pera as one of the recommended restaurants for the Grand Central area, and for good reason. In addition to its convenience for those staying near the terminal, the prices and portions are very reasonable. The food was delicious, and our server, Aaron, was extremely accommodating and friendly.

Very disappointing Restaurant Week experience. The venue is quite loud as the tables are practiclly on top of each other. And the food was way overpriced for the quality, as i've had better calamari at pubs (they should really grill it in a Turkish restaurant) and was offended that I needed to order a side with the lamb adana (this is not a prime piece of meat, like you would get in a steakhouse). I will not be returning.

I hardly ever write reviews, but considering I spent a good deal of money on a dinner here, I feel I have to share my dining experience. When you first walk in, you can hardly hear yourself talk to the hostess--the acoustics are overwhelming! Fast sit-down and overall fast service and kind staff; however, the food is most definitely not worth the price. I've had better hummus from a packaged Sabra container. My friend's lamb was very tasty, but my fish dish was bland and the texture was off. I've eaten much better Mediterranean food in hole-in-the-wall and casual dining spots in the east and west village. I wouldn't want for any restaurant business to fail, but they really have to work on their ingredients and cooking styles.

There was a problem with the wine. I was at Pera somewhat last minute with my wife for this Restaurant Week pick. With our meal we could order wine pairings suggested by the sommelier for an additional $17. The maitre'd appeared and helped us select four wines to pair with our aps and entres--3 ozs. each. The desert wine was never presented nor offered. Then we were billed at the regular price of about $10/glass. To their credit, the waiter amended the bill, but customer care should have been a bit more superior in such an establishment. In the end, like other places we've tried during Restaurant Week, there's a disconnect between offering customers a chance to sample some of the city's select spots and profiteering.

On my sixth visit to Pera I concluded that the food, which was once very good, has passed to the category of not worth the money. Pera continues to offer a fairly good selection of Mediterranean cuisine, but it turns out to be boring, bland, and cooked and prepared without much passion for the cuisine. Waiters continue to be dismayed at those of us who order lightly or share a number of small plates and tapas. For all of this, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Last time here was great. This was not so. Business lunch: We were seated behind a pillar despite having made an early reservation. I like the room, but it was noisy. Our appetizer dip was plentiful but bland. Eggplant pita sandwich was also a bit dull. My friend's salmon was better. It's close to my office so I'll try again.

Great location--- food tasty and interesting menu. One big issue, however, We were a party of 4... I had requested "quiet" spot (significant hearing issues) and we were seated and all was well until two VERY large groups (two square tables of 12 each) were seated directly behind us and restaurant was at least half empty!! We never should gave been put at that table. It put a significant dent in our pleasure.

My wife and I stopped in for Sunday Brunch before going to the Theater. Prices were fair and the food was wonderful. The Brunch special drinks were $7. We happen to like Mediterranean food - speciality of the restaurant. Nice relaxing service and a great location to have lunch or dinner before or after a show- little more of a walk than the restaurants on 42nd or 43rd but only a couple of blocks more. My wife had the lamb- she loved it and I had a salad that hit the spot. Their bread was home made and really good.We would go back.
