Diner Reviews
  • "Simply excellent. The service is incredible and the people are very kind. The menu is very complete and satisfy to every one of us"

  • "The internet yielded Pera as one of the recommended restaurants for the Grand Central area, and for good reason. In addition to its convenience for those staying near the terminal, the prices and portions are very reasonable. The food was delicious, and our server, Aaron, was extremely accommodating and friendly."

  • "Caught the restaurant week menu on a Friday. Delicious Lamb paired with the Bourbon Sunset specialty cocktail. Great live jazz band, ambiance and service. 2 thumbs up."

  • "Lemonade was sour tasting 2 times. Couldn't drink the first one nor the exchanged one. Music was terrible. You advertised jazz on Friday nite, but that was NOT what was playing. If you improve the music, you'll have a gem."

  • "Very disappointing Restaurant Week experience. The venue is quite loud as the tables are practiclly on top of each other. And the food was way overpriced for the quality, as i've had better calamari at pubs (they should really grill it in a Turkish restaurant) and was offended that I needed to order a side with the lamb adana (this is not a prime piece of meat, like you would get in a steakhouse). I will not be returning."

  • "We had a lovely brunch, wait service was very good. Most of the table had the French Toast which is the best! We were not rushed at all and the waiters kept filling up our water glasses without asking."

  • "Pera has a great lunch salad, it's a great place for a business lunch, efficient, upscale and good location."

  • "I hardly ever write reviews, but considering I spent a good deal of money on a dinner here, I feel I have to share my dining experience. When you first walk in, you can hardly hear yourself talk to the hostess--the acoustics are overwhelming! Fast sit-down and overall fast service and kind staff; however, the food is most definitely not worth the price. I've had better hummus from a packaged Sabra container. My friend's lamb was very tasty, but my fish dish was bland and the texture was off. I've eaten much better Mediterranean food in hole-in-the-wall and casual dining spots in the east and west village. I wouldn't want for any restaurant business to fail, but they really have to work on their ingredients and cooking styles."

  • "I went in having no expectations and left as a potential regular. The spices made the food more enticing and the lamb dishes were succulent."

  • "There was a problem with the wine. I was at Pera somewhat last minute with my wife for this Restaurant Week pick. With our meal we could order wine pairings suggested by the sommelier for an additional $17. The maitre'd appeared and helped us select four wines to pair with our aps and entres--3 ozs. each. The desert wine was never presented nor offered. Then we were billed at the regular price of about $10/glass. To their credit, the waiter amended the bill, but customer care should have been a bit more superior in such an establishment. In the end, like other places we've tried during Restaurant Week, there's a disconnect between offering customers a chance to sample some of the city's select spots and profiteering."

  • "Vibrant dinner and bar scene in midtown. Food very tasty and prices reasonable."

  • "Visited for restaurant week and that may be thr reason behind the extremely slow service. Some items on the menu were a great hit tthough. Some others were just so so. I would go back after restaurant week to give a better critique."

  • "Have been there several times. The food is always delicious and the service is top notch. You have to try their pear cider, amazing! Highly recommend."

  • "The noise level was so high that it made it impossible to carry a conversation. The food was mediocre. The only redeeming quality was the decor with high ceilings and beautiful lighting."

  • "Consistently good food and service. Excellent for a business lunch."

  • "Last time here was great. This was not so. Business lunch: We were seated behind a pillar despite having made an early reservation. I like the room, but it was noisy. Our appetizer dip was plentiful but bland. Eggplant pita sandwich was also a bit dull. My friend's salmon was better. It's close to my office so I'll try again."

  • "This is the second time I have eaten at Pera and it was as great as the first. Love this place. Service is the best!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant many time but for some reason the prices seems to be getting very high, even during restaurant week."

  • "I'm at a loss to describe how wonderful our dining experience was at Pera. It's a lovely place, very romantic, with fantastic food. My husband and I both loved the mixed grill. So delectable, especially the lamb rib lets! Only regret: We'd had a late lunch so had no room to try all the tempting meze or the desserts. We will return as soon as we can."

  • "Five women ate octopus: all were pleased with their choices. I love this restaurant, especially at lunch when it is busy and then it turns quiet and relaxing. I like the energy of drink time and the authenticity and artfulness of the food. I am never disappointed. Never."

  • " Great location--- food tasty and interesting menu. One big issue, however, We were a party of 4... I had requested "quiet" spot (significant hearing issues) and we were seated and all was well until two VERY large groups (two square tables of 12 each) were seated directly behind us and restaurant was at least half empty!! We never should gave been put at that table. It put a significant dent in our pleasure."

  • "Brought a couple colleagues and friends here. Great service (although felt a little rushed) and excellent food. Perfect work atmosphere..."

  • "Restaurant wasn't that crowded and everyone was seated on one side and one side mostly open tables. It made the noise level higher than need be and the tables, like all NYC restaurants, were really close by. Service was a bit slow and Inattentive which was out of the norm. Waitress was sweet and friendly, just could never find her."

  • "This is not the first time we have eaten in Pera. This time our experience was different. While the appetizers were very good the fish we ordered for our main dish was just alright. It was dry and very salty."

  • "My wife and I stopped in for Sunday Brunch before going to the Theater. Prices were fair and the food was wonderful. The Brunch special drinks were $7. We happen to like Mediterranean food - speciality of the restaurant. Nice relaxing service and a great location to have lunch or dinner before or after a show- little more of a walk than the restaurants on 42nd or 43rd but only a couple of blocks more. My wife had the lamb- she loved it and I had a salad that hit the spot. Their bread was home made and really good.We would go back."

  • "PERA is my go-to restaurant for business entertainment because of its location. Whether I'm with one colleague or a group, I know PERA will seat my party accordingly. It will get me out of there quickly when I'm in a rush and will allow us to have a leisurely pace when we have time. And the food choices please all kinds of preferences."

  • "It was perfect. Food was very good. Not too much and they let us sit for a long time after we were through. A thoroughly enjoyable experience."

  • "Food at dinner is always really delicious. You can't go wrong with the mezzes and shashlik. It's always crowded so pretty noisy. Haven't loved it at lunch."

  • "When we first arrived at 7:30 pm, the noise level was such, that we almost left. But we asked for a quiet table and there is a small room in the back with 4 tables. Even in there, the 2 other tables were screaming. Once they left, our private corner was great. I was there the week before, for lunch. And it was also a very boisterous crowd. But they all leave at 1:15pm. The lamb tacos are fabulous. If we had left, I would have taken them to go!"

  • "I've been walking by for years and wanted to go in... Should've done it sooner! Food was amazing. We did the Sunday supper so had 3 courses each... The dip appetizer is huge, kale salad and black bean soup were also filling and good! Steak, salmon, and rice pudding finished abd enjoyed by all!"

  • "Very average 'American' cuisine that matches the price. It's fine if you are in this area of the city & hungry but it is not a special occasion venue. There are lots of good restaurants in Manhattan, this is just one of a crowd."

  • "had an amazing lunch with the chef special. Lamb was the best I ever had!"

  • "Visiting NYC/excellent find! Dinner was delicious - lamb chops were prepared perfectly. Server was awesome! She made great suggestions, was very personable, and made our experience great. We will recommend Pera to others, and will be back on our next visit. Beautiful restaurant! (Might want to chat with the manager - he certainly could help the team. He stood around all night doing nothing! Then, when the restaurant got busy, he sat down and ATE at the bar - all in plain view. Not setting a good example for the team (they were working very hard) and was very obvious to the customers. We are from a restaurant family, and his behavior would not be tolerated. Thought management should know). Thanks for a fabulous dinner - just delicious!"
