Diner Reviews
  • "Booked a reservation for anniversary and on arrival it was ready. Attentive, friendly staff, great food, surprise house dessert for our celebration. Will go again,"

  • "My girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary dinner and I had called in advance for reservations. The hostess on the phone was very professional and very accommodating as I had requested a bottle of champagne to be ready at the table. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and were taken to our table immediately where our champagne was ready and chilled in an elegant bucket. My girlfriend had the "surf and turf" and it was a battle for me to get a bite of her delectable lobster off her plate. To my delight, it was perfectly cooked and wish I had ordered one myself. I had ordered the Filet medium rare and it came out just as I expected with grill marks that were given with care. I wish I could show a picture of the lava cake ;)"

  • "Really great way to celebrate a birthday while in town for the weekend. We were greeted promptly and had full service every step of the way. Loved that you all payed attention in the note section when I made reservations about a birthday. I fee like no one ever reads that and you all did, and followed through with some great surprises to make us feel special! Food was great, my favorite was the Peppercorn Ranch - who knew something could taste so good:) Thanks again for a great evening, filled with yummy food and great service!"

  • "We had reservations and were seated on time but 90 min. From sitting down till our main meal was a little long when others around us had there food before us.... Other then that the appetizers were great and the salad with warm bread had a homemade flavor I had the pork tenderloin and my wife had the stuffed artichoke chicken, it was her birthday and they do a real nice desert for those occasions"

  • "A friend and I hadn't seen each other for awhile and she picked the Peppercorn Grille from being there several times before. Made reservations. I screwed up the reservations and PC (Peppercorn) staff were understanding and assisted me in correcting the reservation. It's a nice, romantic, very clean, higher end looking establishment. Wine and Food Service was outstanding. The only two negatives were my friend had "one" cold carrot and the rest were fine? Is that weird. The pork chop was a little more done than I liked but still good. Other than those anomalies, it was a great experience."

  • "We live in Big Bear and Peppercorn is our favorite!!! The best restaurant in town by far. The food is always prepared perfectly and the servers are super. Always clean with fresh flowers on the tables. Great for lunch or dinner!"

  • "Food was good, service was good, it was very noisy though, the kind of noise you would expect at a buffet."

  • "We first dined at Peppercorn Grille 3 years ago and have looked forward to it each subsequent year on our annual trip. Although the service and ambiance are still up to par, the food preparation was way down. The steak was tough, the seafood, overcooked and the sides overly salty. I hope that the kitchen was just having a bad night and this isn't a sign of things to come."

  • "We love everything about it this upscale yet intimate restaurant with a 'city' atmosphere in a relatively small town and make it a point to visit at least one time during our trip to Big Bear. The food, which is reasonably priced, is very good and the service is excellent! Very nice ambiance with low lighting, candlelight, table cloths and crystal. Popular with the locals and tourists alike, so reservations are a must!"

  • "The best food we have had since moving up to Big Bear 3 years ago."

  • "Second time here and the food and service are exceptional. We arrived later than our 9pm reservation because we were in traffic heading to Big Bear. We called and they accomodated us by moving our reservation. Very pleasant staff."

  • "Normally this place is consistent with the food being above average. Unfortunately I ordered the halibut last Saturday night and it was overcooked and very dry. This is one of our favorite restaurants up in Big Bear and it is always tough to get in on a Saturday night.Needless to say I was quite disappointed when my meal did not compare with past experiences. We will give it another shot, hopefully it was just an off night."

  • "Our party of four each had something different from the menu and everyone was very pleased. The Peppercorn Grille is my favorite restaurant in Big Bear Village to bring guests for special occasions. They have cheerful service and excellent food. It's a small, popular place, so we make reservations."

  • "My wife and I celebrate her birthday with a short ski trip to Big Bear every year. We always have dinner at Peppercorn Grille. Food is great, atmosphere is great, and the staff is always friendly. Reservations are advised."

  • "I always make sure to have dinner while I am in Big Bear. Their steaks are my favorite and always cooked perfectly as aske. The staff is very friendly. The staff are friendly and attentive. Make reservations though because this place is very popular amongst the locals as well as the tourists."

  • "We dine at the Pepercorn everytime we are in BigBear including the last 5 years of anniversary dinners. Service is always great and the food excellent. Highly recomended! Don't forget to make a reservation or it could be a 2 hour wait."

  • "We had dinner at Peppercorn with another couple and, as always, we ALL were very pleased with our experience. As a vegetarian, I had the spinach/mushroom lasagna, which was excellent. My husband and his friend had the filet mignon, and my friend had the stuffed chicken breast. The meals all come with either soup or salad, and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Because it is also a popular place with the Big Bear locals, I would highly recommend making reservations-- especially for the weekends. I use OpenTable on my smartphone to make Peppercorn reservations, and it works great!"

  • "Our server Joe was great ! Make reservations ahead of time and corkage fee was only $15. The food was amazing and looking forward to dining here again. The calamari was to die for! And good wine list."

  • "Booked an early dinner on a Saturday night at Peppercorn as the establishment obviously fills up fast. Had a 4:30 reservation and was running 11 minutes late. When we checked in, the manager made the comment "I almost gave up on you". What I soon learned was the arrogance of the management extended its way through the entire staff. Overall, the food was good, steak was prepared well and sides were average. Would probably try another option while up there next time. First impressions are everything!"

  • "We made our Peppercorn reservations via OpenTable, and I was amazed at how easy it was to do, directly from my smartphone! We went for dinner midweek, and the restaurant was pretty full then, so always reserve in advance. My husband and I went for our anniversary, and had a great time and an amazing meal. He had the filet mignon with the garlic mashed potatoes, which he enjoyed immensely. I ordered the spinach ravioli (I'm a vegetarian), which was excellent. For our "Happy Anniversary," our server presented us with a beautifully decorated "molten lava chocolate cake," which was pure decadence! It tasted wonderful, and I highly recommend leaving a little room for desert when you eat there!"

  • "Great food. Will be going back again. Favorite place in town. Can't wait for their new restaurant to open up on Village Drive!"

  • "We just had another very good meal at Peppercorn Grille, it is one of our favorite spots in Big Bear. As is typical, we had to wait about 25 minutes past our reservation time to get seated, but during that wait time we saw literally dozens of folks without reservations get turned away, which seems to be typical on a Saturday night. So be warned, book your reservation early for weekend nights, you will be rewarded with very good food, deep menu (even for kids), reasonably priced wine and great service"

  • "While the food was very good, service was a bit lacking due to them being so busy. They're very busy because it's probably the only really good restaurant in Big Bear. As long as one doesn't mind the long wait for the food to be served, or any request for that matter, and the noise level, then it's a great place to dine. I had a small request for a napkin because one of the servers had inadvertently taken it when I had left the table momentarily. I never received the napkin and I believe it was because the waitress was too busy and had forgotten."

  • "If you are looking for the best food experience in town... this is the place, period. Be sure to have a reservation...!!!"

  • "This restaurant has good service, good atmosphere. This is the best restaurant in town to eat at. I have eaten here before but this time I ordered the halibut with mango topping. I was very disappointed with this dish. It was very dry and had no flavor and the rice pilaf had a funny taste. Also if you want a cocktail don't order the Hawaiian martini. I guess when you eat here stick with the steak and chicken and not the fish."

  • "The wait staff from the time we walked in to the time we left were so friendly! The good was Delicious especially the almond crusted salmon with aioli sauce. Highly recommend the restaurant, but make reservations!"

  • "After many good visits to Peppercorn this was a total surprise and disappointment. The service was poor, we arrived a 4:30, prior to the evening rush and still had to wait for service. Once our food arrived 75 minutes later, my food was overcooked and had no taste. My son ordered the same item and was disappointed as well."

  • "Our whole family enjoys dining here for special occasions. The wine list is nice, service is impeccable, food is great, and location in Big Bear Village is vibrant. This is where we eat following our church's Christmas Eve service. We are aware of the need to make reservations very early (1-month in advance this year). Then, we just walk over to the Peppercorn and enjoy our dining experience without waiting. It's always nice."

  • "Great food selection, hard to decide what to order. Great martinis, too. Restaurant looks fancy, nicely decorated but reasonable prices. Definitely a romantic flair but they welcome kids (though no kid menu and it is not noisy so wouldn't bring kids that can't behave)."
    Dined on 12/24/2013
  • "I had a reservation and took my fiancé here immediately after proposing. The atmosphere and ambience were perfect, although my love didn't much feel like eating right then. I had the cannelloni which I shared with her and we both agree that it was delicious. it's a little more expensive, but definitely worth the cost for the quality of the food and for such a special occasion."

  • "The food was pretty boring and bland. The calamari was pretty good, but the lobster ravioli and clam chowder was very boring. It's tough to find a good restaurant in Big Bear if you are a foodie."
