Diner Reviews
  • "On vacation in Big Bear for a week. We actually ate here twice this trip. Both times the service was slow, and the food was very good. You should make reservations for this place in advance because it's pretty popular. Some really great dishes that are total stand-outs from what you typically find in the area. I don't know of a better restaurant for dinner in Big Bear. The servers are always gracious, but there is a communication gap somewhere. Both times after we were seated it was 10-15 minutes before we saw anyone."

  • "My favorite dish is from their lunch menu: the Tortellini! It is a beautiful restaurant with a rustic winery feeling...makes you feel totally classy!"

  • "Celebrated my birthday here! Halibut was excellent. Generous serving and creative preparation."

  • "We had a great time. The service was great and the food was tasty. My only complaint would be the couple of screaming kids, but obviously that's not the restaurants fault. Overall I give it two thumbs up!"

  • "Enjoyed the outdoor seating...The service was good. The food was good but not exceptional. I do like that the price included everything."

  • "Peppercorn Grille is the best restaurant in the Big Bear Lake area. The food is excellent, the service is outstanding, what more could you ask for? Reservations are a must. The Peppercorn Grill is located in the middle of Big Bear Village. Many of the visitors to the area find the Peppercorn Grill."

  • "I am always amazed by the people who work at Peppercorn and the food they serve. They are eager to please, personable, helpful and energetic. Their desserts are lush. Outdoor patio blissful watching the world go by but I prefer a comfy inside booth."

  • "The food and service is always excellent at the Peppercorn Grille. Every time we are in Big Bear we eat at the Peppercorn and have never had a bad meal and the service is always top notch. The atmosphere is pleasant and casual, no need to dress up but you also won't get in without a shirt and shoes."

  • "Service was outstanding. The meal was good. My wife ate the chicken I ate the New York strip steak. I thought the steak was mediocre and had too much fat and grizzle for a $28 steak."

  • "Hard to get a table here during the summer holiday season...might be Big Bear's best. Have never been disappointed in a meal or in the service. Great soups, salads, and well-prepared fish entrees."

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful dinner for my friend's birthday in late June 2014. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, the waiters were very attentive, and the ambience was great. It was a Tuesday night and the place was packed, which told me the locals love this place, too. They also surprised him with a birthday piece of cake, which was a nice touch and comped the coffees as well! Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "I have wanted to take my family to The Peppercorn Grille for years. We vacation in Big Bear Lake frequently and we went this time. To say we were pleased would be an understatement. I believe my waiter's name was Joe and he was a pleasure as well. The service was great the food was great the ambience was pleasant I give this place 5 out of 5 easily. Wish I could give 6!"

  • "Quaint & intimate atmosphere in the evening. Varied selection of entrees to satisfy most & food presentation was beautiful & colorful. Service was friendly but slow & it was during the week when the restaurant was not full. If you are not big eaters I suggest having them split your entree for an added fee but you get a full salad & side option that way. It was more than enough!! The sauce on the New York strip was very tasty."

  • "Without question the BEST restaurant in Big Bear! In fact we had dinner there twice in three days. Both the service and the food is outstanding. You can not go wrong eating here. Don't look any further because this is the place. Play it safe and make reservations."

  • "We had a great table and had an enjoyable dinner. We were never rushed, the food came out timely and the chocolate dessert was great. The wine choices weren't huge, but had good quality options. Reservations are suggested as the restaurant was full when we got there at 8pm - fortunately we had made ours the day before."

  • "Michael was great, our server Michelle was great. The chowder was very good. The pasta dishes leave a lot to be desired. My husband and I had two different pasta dishes, but when they arrived you cold not tell one from the other. They were both smothered in sauce and that is what we could taste…….sauce. I think a mistake that most Big Bear restaurants make is they try to tackle too many different dishes. In addition, the main dishes (other than most of the pastas) are priced very high for the quality of food served. "

  • "The prime rib and filet mignon were delicious. The clam chowder was bland and lacked flavor. The decor was very nice and felt upscale. The service was lacking in that when we ordered and said we were sharing a salad and a meal. They brought it to us with a plate to split it ourselves. My guest asked the waitress to take the food and have them split it in the kitchen. When we asked for a box for the left over food once again the waitress brought a box and had us package up the food at the table. For an upscale restaurant I would say the service was sub-par. I probably won't take guests there again because of the service. "

  • "My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was amazing and the setting was perfect for a romantic dinner, without being stuffy. The restaurant is cozy with a nice mountain feel. We will definitely be stopping in again the next time we are up in Big Bear. "

  • "I would say that we enjoyed Peppercorn. Service was slow but pleasant. Very nice atmosphere, Lots of families dining there. Food was good. I had the special sea bass which had a lot of butter. The flavoring was nice. My husband had shrimp-spicy. It was pretty good. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we would go back-busy for a Monday night. I saw some nice beef choices. Thought about a friend who would enjoy it. Recommended by Worldmark concierge where we were staying. "

  • "The food is fantastic. The service is great. We've been here a few times and everything we have had has been delicious. We only ordered appetizers and wine this last visit. Crab cakes and Ahi Tuna. Both were very good. I love the chicken salad sandwich, as well. We will definitely be making Peppercorn Grille a "go to" restaurant."

  • "I ordered a $28 pan seared Alaskan Halibut with avocado-pineapple-mango sauce. I got about 2.5 oz of fish with some pilaf. The serving size was fine for a petite person like myself. However, the fish was way overcooked and under seasoning. The sauce was non existing. I only saw a mixture of chopped avocado, pineapple and mango. My side salad came with honey mustard dressing. Again, the dressing needed a bit of salt. I personally avoid high sodium food like a plague but here the food is just bland. I tried to finish my plate but in the end I just couldn't. In short, if I am going to pay for a fine cuisine price tag, I expect perfect preparation, perfect seasoning and perfect service. I found none from this restaurant. "

  • "It's a shell of what it wants to be. It portrays itself as a high quality restaurant in presentation and online advertising. But what you get is just average. Service was lackluster. The food looked good when it arrives then you realize it's just sauce on top of bland food. The creme brule for dessert was way too much pudding and the top was not caramelized. Ended up being a gooey mess. Overall if you are looking for a nice spot in Big Bear, CA to eat check it out. If you think you are getting what you pay for at this place look elsewhere. "

  • "My girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary dinner and I had called in advance for reservations. The hostess on the phone was very professional and very accommodating as I had requested a bottle of champagne to be ready at the table. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and were taken to our table immediately where our champagne was ready and chilled in an elegant bucket. My girlfriend had the "surf and turf" and it was a battle for me to get a bite of her delectable lobster off her plate. To my delight, it was perfectly cooked and wish I had ordered one myself. I had ordered the Filet medium rare and it came out just as I expected with grill marks that were given with care. I wish I could show a picture of the lava cake ;)"

  • "Really great way to celebrate a birthday while in town for the weekend. We were greeted promptly and had full service every step of the way. Loved that you all payed attention in the note section when I made reservations about a birthday. I fee like no one ever reads that and you all did, and followed through with some great surprises to make us feel special! Food was great, my favorite was the Peppercorn Ranch - who knew something could taste so good:) Thanks again for a great evening, filled with yummy food and great service!"

  • "We had reservations and were seated on time but 90 min. From sitting down till our main meal was a little long when others around us had there food before us.... Other then that the appetizers were great and the salad with warm bread had a homemade flavor I had the pork tenderloin and my wife had the stuffed artichoke chicken, it was her birthday and they do a real nice desert for those occasions"

  • "A friend and I hadn't seen each other for awhile and she picked the Peppercorn Grille from being there several times before. Made reservations. I screwed up the reservations and PC (Peppercorn) staff were understanding and assisted me in correcting the reservation. It's a nice, romantic, very clean, higher end looking establishment. Wine and Food Service was outstanding. The only two negatives were my friend had "one" cold carrot and the rest were fine? Is that weird. The pork chop was a little more done than I liked but still good. Other than those anomalies, it was a great experience."

  • "We live in Big Bear and Peppercorn is our favorite!!! The best restaurant in town by far. The food is always prepared perfectly and the servers are super. Always clean with fresh flowers on the tables. Great for lunch or dinner!"

  • "We first dined at Peppercorn Grille 3 years ago and have looked forward to it each subsequent year on our annual trip. Although the service and ambiance are still up to par, the food preparation was way down. The steak was tough, the seafood, overcooked and the sides overly salty. I hope that the kitchen was just having a bad night and this isn't a sign of things to come."

  • "We love everything about it this upscale yet intimate restaurant with a 'city' atmosphere in a relatively small town and make it a point to visit at least one time during our trip to Big Bear. The food, which is reasonably priced, is very good and the service is excellent! Very nice ambiance with low lighting, candlelight, table cloths and crystal. Popular with the locals and tourists alike, so reservations are a must!"

  • "Normally this place is consistent with the food being above average. Unfortunately I ordered the halibut last Saturday night and it was overcooked and very dry. This is one of our favorite restaurants up in Big Bear and it is always tough to get in on a Saturday night.Needless to say I was quite disappointed when my meal did not compare with past experiences. We will give it another shot, hopefully it was just an off night."
