Diner Reviews
  • "So we have been here before and liked it a lot. We had a reservation at 8pm and requested a table on the bridge side. We expected to wait a little while as a result. Then due to lack of communication between servers and the hostess, our table was given away. We didn't get seated till 8:50pm, completely defeating the point of having reservations, and our first food didn't come out till 9:45pm. We got full quickly so we ate like 1/4 of our actual entrees. When we asked to have them wrapped up, they dropped the food. The manager offered to give us an entirely new striped bass, which was great but they never replaced our lost swordfish. When I am throwing down like $40 per entree, I'd expect both to be replaced."

  • "When I 1st walked in I thought it was very nice. I had an 8pm reservation and wasn't seated till 9. We went to the bar and had 2 patron drinks which were watered down. When we finally were seated we ordered out food. The waiter repeated the order back. They brought the food he ordered duck which was warm and I ordered salmon and they brought me out chicken. They took the chicken and duck back. They returned with the salmon and duck. The duck was still warm and the salmon was raw. I would never go here again."

  • "Just know that the service here is awful, absolutely horrible. We really waited for about 20mins. to get water and our orders taken, and it was because I flagged a server down. The drinks were all watered down, we didn't get to order food and I'm glad because my bf saw people sending back their plates. Had a Living Social deal and despite informing the staff several times, my bf's card was charged. Overall, VERY disorganized and incompetent staff. The only reason I give 2 and not 1 star is because the manager apologized and came to speak to us before we left. Its really sad because the place has potential with the views and the set up. However, I highly doubt I will ever step foot in there again."

  • "The food and view at Penthouse 808 are amazing some of the best sushi I have ever had. Great people watching as well. However, I would agree with a yelper who said service was poor to very slow. My roommate and I waited a good while before we were able to place an order, we placed our drink order and waited and waited and waited. Yes it is a busy place it did seem to me that they were understaffed. There seemed to be a low ratio of waiters to customers. We finally got our drinks and had a long wait to order our food. The staff is friendly but overwhelmed. If you go just be aware don't be in a hurry and do enjoy some amazing food."

  • "We went to Penthouse 808 for brunch this past Sunday and were not impressed. The jazz band played for 10min then took a 30min break, but that's not a big deal. The issue was that we got our appetizers and entrees at the sametime so when we asked to take the entree until we finish our meal, they did but 15min later brought the food back and it was cold. We thought the scene would be a bit more dressy, there was a girl in her sports bra and jeans which was a bit surprising. So overall I was not thrilled with this establishment & probably won't be back for a while."

  • "Music was too loud could not hear each other talk during diner, this restaurant is more like a bar scene, food too expensive, drink too expensive. Crowd is very young. Not my type of restaurant. Food was just ok, and not worth the money."

  • "Went out to celebrate an anniversary, we had a lovely table on the edge of the dining area. Service was courteous and quick. They were very good about knowing what was gluten free, as I have an allergy and ask a lot of questions. We had two sushi rolls, a main dish, and one side, which was plenty of food. Drinks were sweet, but nice, and felt appropriate for the warm weather. Atmosphere on a Sunday was pleasant, the place was full by the time we finished, and it was getting a bit loud with the DJ, but our early dinner was just right."

  • "Awful service, pricey but you pay for the view I suppose. Polite management, tasty small portioned dishes."

  • "This restaurant was amazing. Service was great and food was delish. My and my boyfriend order the penthouse roll special sushi dish the rock shrimp tempura and 2 drinks I forgot the names. But those were really good too. Really beautiful view and nice next to the bridge."

  • "From great views and food to drinks . This location is an awesome hot spot in queens. Friendly staff and good music. Will keep me coming back for more."

  • "As much as I love this spot, the ambiance, the food and the live entertainment - our waiter this last time was horrible. I had to ask for drinks twice and he never checked on us to see how we were doing. I didn't even bother call him after a while I just sat there and enjoyed the scenery and threw out perfectly good waffles that would've been better if I could get a bit of syrup on the side. Sad experience for my sisters birthday but we've been before and would go back. We just would request a different waiter."

  • "The view of nyc and the bridge was absolutely amazing. The food was awesome. The ombiance was very good. Had a fantastic time celebrating my wedding anniversary. Would do it again."

  • "The place is petty noisy. The food taste like regular Chinese food take out but charging expensive price. Only recommend for the view."

  • "For a few times I've been there I haven't been disappointed, although the menu has changed recently. When I asked for a Lemongrass martini that was previously on the menu, the waitress told me it was not possible. I found it strange for a cocktail bar, but it's not a big deal. The food was great, sushis are excellent. I highly recommend them."

  • "Food was okay - extremely pricy for a subpar meal. Can't substitute any sides out for anything. Really frustrating - when literally every other restaurant in the world allows you to. Scene was great. No complaints. The service. Oh the service. Absolutely atrocious. Just our specific waiter. I wish I could remember his name to make sure when friends go here they never have him. He showed up fifteen minutes after we were seated to say hello, brought us water ten minute later, fifteen minutes later finally took our order, then other waiters and cooks brought our food, so we hadn't seen him for about 30 minutes - I had to pull in a second waiter, Eric, just for help.. who fixed our orders completely (since some were messed up). Ridiculous."

  • "Restaurant is difficult to find because it is on the roof of a hotel....under a bridge. Entire bldg. is in need of cleaning & sprucing up...glass walls on restaurant terrace were covered in fingerprints & smudges which made me hesitate about eating there. We ordered fried calamari/watermelon salad which was good & chicken wings (6 for about $11) which were heavily coated with spices. Aloha sushi rolls were good but not cold enough. Waiter was attentive."

  • "The place is really nice, service was great and the Sirloin was unbelievably good. The meat was so tender and cook as requested and expected!"

  • "Manager was rude, waited an hour for a table when there were open tables all around me. Great view and good food made up for it. Will still recommend."

  • "Went here for brunch and it was terrible!! The waiter said brunch was brand new but either way food should be up to par for the amount of money we are spending. The view was amazing but the food was bland and was almost 2 hours late because the chef completely disregarded our order and prepared another table's food that came in after us which was totally unacceptable. Thankfully, the manager comped the bill completely but after almost 3 hours, you tend to get annoyed and not care what the food tastes like after. I would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. You want brunch?? Go somewhere else. I know a bunch of other locations, not that expensive, or that far with unlimited mimosas or bellinis and more on point with their service."

  • "sushi was fresh and amazing. Scene was good, dj was good (although he changed the songs to quickly). Pleasantly surprised how good this place was, much better than last year."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "A total chanege in menu, copmaring from last year. Last year the food was horrible. However, this year they impress me with changes in the menu. I order duck breast, and it was delicious. That carrot puree was very very delicious too. My husband ordered som sushi is was really good too. Ambiance was nice. However, I did not like the new appearance. I like the old decoration before. The view is outstanding as always."

  • "The place is very trendy and has an incredible view. The live band was great. I was very surprise by how bad the food was and the bad service. While the place was not packed the server was very slow and it took way too long for anything that we ordered to come out. I would recommend it for the drinks and appetizers, but would not waste my money on the food."

  • "great location. the aura of the place is nice. food is pretty good but pretty expensive but for that kind of place I guess its fair. the happy hour drinks are 5$ but def worth it. not worth investing in the cocktail drinks for 13$, the happy hour special is just right. not really great service. that's the worst downfall."

  • "We had brunch here on a Sunday. It was a gorgeous day, there was a jazz band playing & the food was pretty good. Unfortunately the service wasn't great. Our waiter wasn't very communicative & didn't give us confidence that he knew what we wanted despite him saying he did & us repeating the order a few times. So when our meals came they were wrong & had to be remade & then when the bill came we had been charged twice for our meals. All was resolved in the end but it is a great place which we will revisit, I just hope they sort out their service."

  • " Me and my party arrived ten minutes early for are reservation at 1230pm. We took the elevator to the restaurants location on the roof. When we made it to the restaurants lobe there was no one there to create us. I had to walk into the restaurant and ask around for the person seating us. The person walked me back to the registering desk and checked my reservation. She was very rude and unpleasant but she did ask us if we wanted to be seated out or in side. We sat at are table for over 30 minutes and no one came to assist us in anyway no water drinks nothing. Then I seen a waiter start to come over and he went to the table that was seated fifteen minutes after us"

  • "The food was good but a little pricey. The chicken lollipop were delicious but the salmon was a very small portion. Soda was flat and had to wait ten minutes for a Heineken. But the waiter was good overall. The view was awesome and the live dj was great"

  • "Really disappointed! Took girlfriend to celebrate her 30th at this restaurant and they dropped the ball several times. I Made res. a week ago and specifically instructed the reservation personnel to please acknowledge her birthday and they did not. The drinks were pricey. The night could have been salvaged if after I mentioned it was my girls birthday to our server and he brought the desert and didn't charge us for it. After confronting him he did absolutely nothing to correct it. I spent 190$ at this establishment. Believe me I would not have minded paying the 8$. What made me upset was after telling him he didn't even try to correct it. Stick to the staples of NY dining. They don't care about the people. God bless"

  • "Overall my husband and I had a great experience at Penthouse 808. We came there with a living social deal. We had the sushi as an appitizer. I had the Ravel Roll which was GREAT!!! I wish I had gotten more sushi as my entree. I got the salmon meal for my entree with aspargus. It was not worth the price and the meal was small. The view of the Brooklyn bridge more than made up for that!! We got there right before the sunset and the pictures came out great!! We also go there during happy hour. $5 for mojitos and sangrias!!! "

  • "The view is great. Food is ok, best option to go for is sushi, but is also ok. I think that the drinks and the view are the best thing there."

  • "On a previous visit to this location, it seemed much smaller and cramped, but this visit shed light that they may be close to reaching their potential. There is a retractable wall of glass doors that opens the area up to a clear site of the Queensborough Bridge that is picturesque, but other than the scenery, I can't really comment. The one appetizer we had, calamari, was easily forgotten and was waste. Would visit again to partake in the much improved menu choices and likely some of their drinks. Definitely a spot to bring a date for a good first impression. "

  • "This place looks nothing like the pictures on the website. I brought my boyfriend here thinking we were going to have a beautiful romantic dinner. The second we began to walk in I had doubts. The elevator felt like it was going to breakdown. Please we walk into the "restaurant" whatever you want to call it and immediately was like "what the hell is this?" The setup is ridiculous. I was told over the phone, just the day before that there was a retractable ceiling in case it rained. Yeah, no! There was a big black garbage looking bag acting as a ceiling. Basically, my boyfriend and I left and went to Philippe Chow where we know we would not be disappointed and had an amazing time! So if you're looking to do something romantic, this is not it!"
