Diner Reviews
  • "Restaurant is difficult to find because it is on the roof of a hotel....under a bridge. Entire bldg. is in need of cleaning & sprucing up...glass walls on restaurant terrace were covered in fingerprints & smudges which made me hesitate about eating there. We ordered fried calamari/watermelon salad which was good & chicken wings (6 for about $11) which were heavily coated with spices. Aloha sushi rolls were good but not cold enough. Waiter was attentive."

  • "Food was okay - extremely pricy for a subpar meal. Can't substitute any sides out for anything. Really frustrating - when literally every other restaurant in the world allows you to. Scene was great. No complaints. The service. Oh the service. Absolutely atrocious. Just our specific waiter. I wish I could remember his name to make sure when friends go here they never have him. He showed up fifteen minutes after we were seated to say hello, brought us water ten minute later, fifteen minutes later finally took our order, then other waiters and cooks brought our food, so we hadn't seen him for about 30 minutes - I had to pull in a second waiter, Eric, just for help.. who fixed our orders completely (since some were messed up). Ridiculous."

  • "Went here for brunch and it was terrible!! The waiter said brunch was brand new but either way food should be up to par for the amount of money we are spending. The view was amazing but the food was bland and was almost 2 hours late because the chef completely disregarded our order and prepared another table's food that came in after us which was totally unacceptable. Thankfully, the manager comped the bill completely but after almost 3 hours, you tend to get annoyed and not care what the food tastes like after. I would NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. You want brunch?? Go somewhere else. I know a bunch of other locations, not that expensive, or that far with unlimited mimosas or bellinis and more on point with their service."

  • "The place is really nice, service was great and the Sirloin was unbelievably good. The meat was so tender and cook as requested and expected!"

  • "Manager was rude, waited an hour for a table when there were open tables all around me. Great view and good food made up for it. Will still recommend."

  • "sushi was fresh and amazing. Scene was good, dj was good (although he changed the songs to quickly). Pleasantly surprised how good this place was, much better than last year."

  • "A total chanege in menu, copmaring from last year. Last year the food was horrible. However, this year they impress me with changes in the menu. I order duck breast, and it was delicious. That carrot puree was very very delicious too. My husband ordered som sushi is was really good too. Ambiance was nice. However, I did not like the new appearance. I like the old decoration before. The view is outstanding as always."

  • "The place is very trendy and has an incredible view. The live band was great. I was very surprise by how bad the food was and the bad service. While the place was not packed the server was very slow and it took way too long for anything that we ordered to come out. I would recommend it for the drinks and appetizers, but would not waste my money on the food."

  • "great location. the aura of the place is nice. food is pretty good but pretty expensive but for that kind of place I guess its fair. the happy hour drinks are 5$ but def worth it. not worth investing in the cocktail drinks for 13$, the happy hour special is just right. not really great service. that's the worst downfall."

  • " Me and my party arrived ten minutes early for are reservation at 1230pm. We took the elevator to the restaurants location on the roof. When we made it to the restaurants lobe there was no one there to create us. I had to walk into the restaurant and ask around for the person seating us. The person walked me back to the registering desk and checked my reservation. She was very rude and unpleasant but she did ask us if we wanted to be seated out or in side. We sat at are table for over 30 minutes and no one came to assist us in anyway no water drinks nothing. Then I seen a waiter start to come over and he went to the table that was seated fifteen minutes after us"

  • "We had brunch here on a Sunday. It was a gorgeous day, there was a jazz band playing & the food was pretty good. Unfortunately the service wasn't great. Our waiter wasn't very communicative & didn't give us confidence that he knew what we wanted despite him saying he did & us repeating the order a few times. So when our meals came they were wrong & had to be remade & then when the bill came we had been charged twice for our meals. All was resolved in the end but it is a great place which we will revisit, I just hope they sort out their service."

  • "The food was good but a little pricey. The chicken lollipop were delicious but the salmon was a very small portion. Soda was flat and had to wait ten minutes for a Heineken. But the waiter was good overall. The view was awesome and the live dj was great"

  • "Really disappointed! Took girlfriend to celebrate her 30th at this restaurant and they dropped the ball several times. I Made res. a week ago and specifically instructed the reservation personnel to please acknowledge her birthday and they did not. The drinks were pricey. The night could have been salvaged if after I mentioned it was my girls birthday to our server and he brought the desert and didn't charge us for it. After confronting him he did absolutely nothing to correct it. I spent 190$ at this establishment. Believe me I would not have minded paying the 8$. What made me upset was after telling him he didn't even try to correct it. Stick to the staples of NY dining. They don't care about the people. God bless"

  • "Overall my husband and I had a great experience at Penthouse 808. We came there with a living social deal. We had the sushi as an appitizer. I had the Ravel Roll which was GREAT!!! I wish I had gotten more sushi as my entree. I got the salmon meal for my entree with aspargus. It was not worth the price and the meal was small. The view of the Brooklyn bridge more than made up for that!! We got there right before the sunset and the pictures came out great!! We also go there during happy hour. $5 for mojitos and sangrias!!! "

  • "But the drinks were pretty terrible and insanely sweet. The food was delicious but the portions were smaller than tapas sizes costing $15 each. The view is worth seeing if you are in Long Island city"

  • "On a previous visit to this location, it seemed much smaller and cramped, but this visit shed light that they may be close to reaching their potential. There is a retractable wall of glass doors that opens the area up to a clear site of the Queensborough Bridge that is picturesque, but other than the scenery, I can't really comment. The one appetizer we had, calamari, was easily forgotten and was waste. Would visit again to partake in the much improved menu choices and likely some of their drinks. Definitely a spot to bring a date for a good first impression. "

  • "This place looks nothing like the pictures on the website. I brought my boyfriend here thinking we were going to have a beautiful romantic dinner. The second we began to walk in I had doubts. The elevator felt like it was going to breakdown. Please we walk into the "restaurant" whatever you want to call it and immediately was like "what the hell is this?" The setup is ridiculous. I was told over the phone, just the day before that there was a retractable ceiling in case it rained. Yeah, no! There was a big black garbage looking bag acting as a ceiling. Basically, my boyfriend and I left and went to Philippe Chow where we know we would not be disappointed and had an amazing time! So if you're looking to do something romantic, this is not it!"

  • "The Spicy Tuna Tacos and Sushi we very good. Unfortunately, they were still renovating when we got there. The food and view of the city across the river were fantastic. The service however was not good. I'm sure they will get it all together once they get the renovation done and understand the new menu."

  • "We arrived 7:45, ordered our food which arrived 1 HOUR 20 MINS later. We ordered dessert which arrived 30 MINS later. We ordered drinks which arrived another 30 MINS. The table beside us got their dinner 20 MINS earlier than US! A family at another table beside us got theirs almost an hour later, we were exchanging looks & commenting on the very SLOW service. Ambiance was good but dinner took almost 3 hours. Not coming back & NOT recommending this place. "

  • "Service was horrible. Waiter took our soy sauce to give to the table next to us. He never came by to see how we were doing. He also took our candle from the table and gave it to the table next to us. We had to send back some of our food because it was cold and undercooked. First time at this place and definately was the last."

  • "bad, worse. we arrived there we hadn't the table set for five. Much delay. ordered the fixed price menu and they said it was for groups of ten people. waited on the manager, very badly wrong. ironic. we went without food"

  • "I was appalled by the distasteful greeting that my date and I were afforded at your establishment. The lady looked at us as if we're not supposed to be here, while she was on the phone for 5 mins before she even acknowledged us. The ambiance is very nice inside and our server was excellent."

  • "The scenery is great! I came here with my boyfriend for dinner for our 3 year relationship celebration. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful. The wine and food was great, and the pricing is not bad at all! I love the music playing because it gives the rooftop diner a lively feel, and the lighting in the restaurant was great. It added a romantic feel. The table lanterns were awesome as well. "

  • "We came here because we wanted to eat dinner on a rooftop. The view is really spectacular, the waiter was friendly, they have great cocktails and we could've sat there all evening into the night just talking, drinking and enjoying the view but unfortunately it did start raining after awhile. Even still we had a good time. We also ordered 5 types of sushi and they were all pretty bland, I probably wouldn't eat there again, but I would go back for drinks. "

  • "It's my second time to dine here. 1st with my husband but he would not come back anymore because he finds the music too loud for an early dinner its about 8ish. The 2nd time I came with my girlfriends, they liked it except that we were not able to go outside since it was raining. we enjoyed our dinner except that it is expensive."

  • "My major problem w/ this venue is that is was under major construction. I don't think it should have been open or at the very least they could have said that they were under construction. That way it could have been my choice to go or not go under those conditions."
    Dined on 5/1/2014
  • "I was really impressed with this place. The view was a nice contrast of gritty and elegant, it was really beautiful. It was also a nice atmosphere. The food was also really good. (better than I thought it would be since it is in a hotel/rooftop, I expected the view to be the main attraction but the food was actually really good!) My only complaint is that the spring rolls were a little overpriced. 4 really really tiny spring rolls for $11 or something like that. Also it would be nice if there were more vegetarian options. We ordered all of the vegetarian things that were on the menu and there were only 3 things we could eat. The waiter was very nice."

  • "The management and most of the staff (except our waiter) were working very hard! But it literally took more than an hour to get our food but manager (not our waiter) apologized and offered us free dessert, which was very good! However the food overall was not well prepared and very pricey, even compared to Manhattan, which this place is not! The view is of Manhattan, and is spectacular! I like music loud but here it was so loud that conversation was nearly impossible...Less volume and this would be a quite romantic venue."

  • "This place has the great atmosphere, food and views. Who wouldn't enjoy Siracha chicken wings and a cherry blossom mojito while looking at the Queensboro bridge with the lights and Manhattan backdrop. Absolutely fabulous! The Ravel hotel including the restaurant are undergoing a lovely renovation which will make this spot even hotter. The rooftop lounge will be done this May and I can't wait to go back and see the remodel. "

  • "Arrived an hour before our reservation for happy hour ($5 drinks, normally $13- I recommend drinking before dinner) We sat at one of the lounge tables outside to drink and enjoy the view, and then we were informed that we could also eat out there, so we did. The view of the city skyline is beautiful, and watching the sun set over the city was breathtaking. As for the food, everything was fresh and delicious. If you like sushi, get The Rooftop Roll! Rock shrimp tempura was also delicious. Some dishes were a bit pricey, but not over the top. For 2 apps, 2 sushi rolls and a dessert we spent around $85. Service was great, and good music was played. Worth every penny, and I can't wait to go back again."
