Diner Reviews
  • "We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here. The staff members were incredibly attentive and knowledgable and friendly. Our delicious dinner was fantastic and definitely deserved a 5 star rating plus! We had a dessert plate served with happy anniversary written in chocolate on a beautifully presented dish. Our compliments to the chefs and to all involved for making a special celebration an exceptional experience!"

  • "2 hours and 40 minutes is more time than we wanted to spend on dinner. We had been there over 1 1/2 hours before we got our entree. The food was very good and attractive a nd the dance music was perfect, view is exceptional from the top of the building and of course it was quite expensive we would have left after the entree but the dessert was included in the 3 course price. there is no a la carte which means a lot of food."

  • "Overall one of the best food experiences that my wife and I can remember in our 53 years of marriage! You seem to expect something special with every course and the Penrose does not disappoint. Highly recommended, if you are in Colorado Springs and/or at the Broadmore Hotel. Expect to pay $ 80-100 per person with drinks."

  • "Always a great place to eat for a very special occasion. The service is always good there. The good is very filling and amazing. We enjoyed dancing in between courses. However, if you are not ready to spend at least 2 hours for dinner (minimum, more like 3 hours), this would not be the right place. If you enjoy a true dinner and dancing experience then this is really the place for you."

  • "My wife and I went for our 25th anniversary and were pretty impressed with the whole experience. The wait staff was excellent and the food and drinks were very impressive. The only downside was my entree. The ahi tuna came out grey and not seared. Inserted into the tuna were 4 haricot verts and the whole visual impression was that of olive loaf. My wife's scallops on the other hand were the best I have ever had. I usually don't use the word amazing but that is the only to describe the deserts. I was very full after the 3 courses and wanted to skip desert but was glad I didn't. The flavors and textures were like nothing I have ever had before. We will be back for our next special occasion. • "We celebrated our anniversary here and were looking forward to the 5 star experience. The service was amazing and we enjoyed our evening very much. Our food was good, but my lamb was disappointing..it was rather tasteless."

  • "The view from the Penrose was great, the food was very good, the staff seem confused as to who was supposed to do what."

  • "The food was delicious but felt the service was very slow. Yes it was 5 star dinning but waiting 15 min for initial glass of wine was not good. I was never asked if I wanted a second glass of wine. When I ask for another glass of wine it never came until I asked for it again! I think the Penrose room is slightly over rated. I will not return. The food at the Broadmoor's Summit is delicious and the atmosphere and service much better."

  • "Our evening at the Penrose Room was truly memorable! We chose this restaurant for it's reputation as one of Colorado Springs' premiere restaurants and we weren't disappointed. The service was attentive, the food delicious and where else can you listen to a wonderful jazz combo and hit the dance floor? Not too many of these experiences still exist that cater to elegance and sophistication. "

  • "From the greeting by the Maitre' D and attending to all comfort the evening was perfect. A corner table and a view of the lake and mountains. An impressive wine list with options at all price points and levels. The food preparation and delivery to the table was exceptional. Truly a special evening!"

  • "We had been there before and had a great experience with the seven course menu, where the chef chooses the dishes. We took the four course menu this time, choosing our own dishes, and we were definitely not wowed. It was very good overall, with a few really great notes, but we didn't walk away with the feeling of having had an exceptional dining experience, which absolutely should happen in a five star restaurant. There were quite a few small disappointments. The pate was alright but not fantastic, one of the wines was pretty forgettable, the duck was slightly too salty, and so on. There were some delightful bits though. Blue crab soup was amazing, vegetables beautifully highlighted."

  • "Super food, super service. A bit pricy but justified by special occasion."

  • "We had wonderfully tasty meals, the tenderloin more so than the swordfish. The vegetables were quite good, and the salads were excellent. All the little extras, courtesy of the pastry chef, were so yummy. We enjoyed the homemade ice creams and luscious little sugar cookies. This was truly an anniversary to be remembered! Thank you all."

  • "We chose a booth and wishes we had sat next to the windows for the incredible city views. Menu was eclectic and everything was delicious. The Blue Crab Bisque was probably the most divine soup i have EVER had. Service was good although our server was not very attentive. Strange considering how upscale the place is. Our other servers, bussers, sommelier etc were much more attentive and made up for her lack of service. We did speak to the Manager about our server as it put a small damper on the evening, however, we really enjoyed ourselves and will surely be back again. Be sure to bring an empty tummy and a full wallet!"

  • "I am glad we ate here. The food was good to excellent. My wife thought the salmon was too salty. The main complaint -- the portions were huge. For a restaurant that touts itsself as French influenced --- the Texas sized portions were just too much -- too rich. The wine selection was exhaustive and the advice provided exceptional. Every time we left to go to the dance floor we got a new cloth napkin. It was a nice evening."

  • "This place has a dance floor that people actually use! How often do you see that anymore? We sat next to the dance floor, byt the band, which was very entertaining. They have a wide selection of menu options from a 3-course, 4-course to a full-on chef's menu. We had a very large lunch, so we opted for the 4-course. Everything was quite good and beautifully presented. It was the holidays, and they had a special caviar menu as well. I wish I would have had room for that, it sounded wonderful. My husband and I have been going to the Broadmoor for almost 20 years, and this year was the first time we ate at the Penrose Room. I'm very glad we did!"

  • "Great experience from the moment I walked in. The service was amazing as was the food, entertainment, and the general feel of the restaurant. Extremely pricey but as a person who would normally never spend that much for dinner, it was 100% worth it! The music was perfect for the atmosphere and the view (even after the sun went down) was very nice. I went for my 30th birthday and would go again in a heart beat. Again, it is an expensive place but I can't stress enough that it was worth it :) oh and if you order the ceaser salad they make it table side which is fun. Also they will give you a pillow for your back if that makes you more comfortable and your left overs are made into a tinfoil swan!!!! Loved it!!!!!"

  • "My after Christmas dinner at the Penrose Room were as always, great! The experience was up to the usual Penrose standards, that is, the service was beyond outstanding, the food was perfect and the wine was very good, even if it was a by the glass, house wine. I have been dining at the Penrose for a number of years and I have never recieved anything but the finest service and food. I am a woman dining alone and the response has always been exactly the right mix of care and leaving me alone to enjoy the evening. I would recomend the Penrose to anyone who wants to experience a wonderful rekaxing evening of exceptional food and service. Also, the entertainment is always superb."

  • "We had a great dining experience Friday night. We went with the chef tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Excellent dining experience and would recommend it to anyone interested it that type of experience. The service was excellent. The only down side was that the music was so loud we had trouble hearing the wait staff most of the time."

  • "Had an 8:15 reservation. Finally asked the hostess 20 minutes later if my table was ready. She said it had been ready but the system showed us seated. It then took 2 hours for a 3 course meal. Service was slow with no one checking on us. The restaurant was half full or less. Food was good but not great. One piece of venison perfect med rare the other obviously over cooked. Five star. - I don't think so. I have been to the Penrose Room a half dozen times before but this time was a major disappointment."

  • "The service and food were extraordinary. We had the Seven Course Meal which was listed at $125 each person on the online menu, but bait and switched for $137 at the table. Clearing and resetting the tables after other guests have left, with no chance that another guest was to sit was off. I can see clearing the table, but making a big production of resetting the table while other guest were nearby is not what I was expecting for this caliber of restaurant. When we ordered a glass of wine for my Wife, the server came to the table with an open bottle. This should not happen, as we do not know the source of the wine poured. Present the unopened bottle for approval, taste, guest approves wine, then pour. I'm happy we ate here, go yourself"

  • "In our previous Broadmoor stays we were never able time our room reservations with dining in the Penrose. However this time we booked the Penrose and then the room. It was absolutely worth it. We selected the seven course with wine pairing. After each course and glass of wine you couldn't imagine the next course could get any better. Service was orchestrated perfection. It is at the top of our list as a dinning experience, all in an incredibly perfect atmosphere with music and lights. We always love the Broadmoor Christmas lights this time of year and adding in the Penrose......it will absolutely be on our calendar for next year."

  • "Was seeking a venue for a special occasion. Found it at The Broadmoor. Service was impeccable and perfectly timed. Servers spent just enough time with us to be helpful, knowing when to leave us alone. When we left the table to dance, we returned with our napkins nicely folded. Food was exceptional, great recommendations from the server, great presentation and table side preparation with explanation. Amazing wine list; selections that perfectly complimented our meal. The music was magnificently sultry with the just the right touch of soft jazz; perfect for the ambiance we were seeking. Highly recommend The Penrose Room at The Broadmoor if you seek romance, elegance, a fine dining experience and music to compliment it all."

  • "The Penrose Room is the ultimate in service and ambience; we have gone twice now for special occasions. And where do you find a restaurant with a dance floor and nice music these days? Just wonderful. This past occasion on November 5 was a bit disappointing only in terms of the menu and food. The menu seemed a bit abbreviated compared to the other time we went......and the food was good but not outstanding as we would rate the first time we went. It was almost as if the "B team" was working in the kitchen.......as opposed to the "A team". But overall, we love the Penrose and will return"

  • "While staying at Broadmoor, had to try Penrose Room. Lived up to my expectations. Food was excellent. Selected a relatively modest price wine, a Syrah, and was thoroughly surprised at how good it was - evidence that all is done well from the low end on up. Both my wife and I were truely pleased with all courses. Food was not only delicious , but beautifully presented. Perhaps the most lovely was my wife's poached pear desert that was presented whole, pealed, and standing on end - beautiful presentation, and delicious to boot."
