A word from Pennsylvania 6
Pennsylvania 6, is a new restaurant that is changing the landscape of the Herald Square neighborhood. Bringing with it the feeling of Old New York and a new taste of classic American dining, Pennsylvania 6 is a 21st Century cross between the Oak Room and the Oyster Bar. (The name is a tribute to Pennsylvania 6-5000, the phone number of the nearby Pennsylvania Hotel, made famous in the song of the same name performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.) Born of casual American roots with a sophisticated culinary twist, boasting a raw bar stocked with the finest oysters and shellfish, and an artisanal cocktail bar, a craft beer list, and an eclectic wine list, there could be no better time for its introduction, as the neighborhood continues to evolve and the bordering NoMad neighborhood becomes a burgeoning dining destination with The Breslin, John Dory, the Ace Hotel and NoMad. Diner Reviews
  • "As the location is close to Penn Station and had a friend in for the weekend heading home we stopped in to catch brunch - Arrived a little after 11:00am only to find out that they did not open till 11:30am - but were more than accommodating by allowing us to sit at the bar while they continued setting up and served us a beverage while we waited - were seated at 11:25 - and had a fantastic brunch - service was top notch and the food was great - had the blue crab mac & cheese (a must) and the smoked salmon omelet - both outstanding - will be back soon for more of the mac & cheese!!!!"

  • "Had yet another wonderful experience at Penn 6 . This time we got in early and had some oysters and a cocktail at the bar , great bartenders and prompt courteous service, unlike many NYC establishments . The restaurant fills up quickly for good reason : the food and service are excellent ! Great value for the price points , friendly vibe , always a pleasure to visit !"

  • "In an area that is hard up for dining choices, Pennsylvania 6 is a stand out. While not exactly a dining destination itself, it's your best bet if you need to eat while near Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. The room is spacious, the red seating gives a visual boost to what is essentially an upscale sports bar. Service is friendly, competent and unharried. Food is definitely several notches above a typical sports themed restaurant and the burger made with 40% dry aged sirloin is well worth its price. Their beer and wine selection is also a cut above what might be expected."

  • "We were recommended to try this restaurant on our first visit to New York we had a really lovely evening with wonderful menu choices especially the fish, fantastic food, service and wine and everyone there was very welcoming."

  • "Food was really good, maybe a little pricey. But our server was very attentive and accommodating, especially because I have a dairy allergy. The cooks were also very accommodating with that. My mom ordered the best salad with no cheese and the waitress asked if she wanted her to add some greens (I guess the salad was just beets and cheese) at no extra cost, so that was nice. The only problem I had were the tv's that are in the restaurant. There was one giant tv made out of 9 screens at the bar and then two tv's by our seats in the restaurant and I found them a little distracting. Otherwise this place was great."

  • "When attending an event at MSG, this is a conveniently located good place to dine/have drinks before and after."

  • "Service was outstanding, food was very, very good. The place is a bit noisy, but that's the energy flowing from the bar area. I go to many events at the Garden, but this was the 1st time I had been here and my best recommendation is that I will definitely return. Proximity, food & service all made this a place that is a great option if you want to dine & drink nicely before a game or concert."

  • "Had a pre-game meal here before going to MSG. It was excellent! The Beer-braised short ribs were divine and the Crab macaroni & cheese was fantastic. Excellent service that even catered to my 7-yr-old. The only shortcoming was the flat bread was too salty. Overall, a great place to watch a game AND to grab a nice meal before a game."

  • "I went to Pennsylvania 6 with a friend for brunch recently, and I ordered the frittata. I was pretty hungry but figured that the frittata would be sufficient, assuming that for $15.00 it would at least come with a side of greens or some fruit. Wrong. It was served without even a slice of toast or a single garnish. We received no bread for the table, so I considered ordering a side, but by them time our server came back, I had finished most of my meal out of sheer hunger. The flavor of the frittata lacked seasoning, and it was over cooked on the edges and runny on the inside. Also, there was a piece of a plastic bag baked into the eggs. Not so appetizing."

  • "this place was fine for a business lunch. my main complaint is that as a vegetarian they bought me the brussle sprouts with bacon on them (I asked for no bacon), and having been a vegetarian for 20 years, I didn't recognize the taste! I think they could have done more to make up for that. It was an innocent mistake but still."

  • "I stopped by this restaurant with my family before a Knicks game. Out waitress made sure that or order came out quickly so we could make it over to MSG in time. The food was delicious, though this isn't a place that you'll pay under $20 per entree. I had the lobster roll which was OK, but my sisters monkfish was delicious! I noticed that the bar has $1 oyster specials for happy hour, so I will be returning soon to check that out."

  • "First had a drink at teh bar , nice bartender, plenty of places to sit or stand in the bar area. After a drink with sat in the reaturant , the food was great. Will definetly return."

  • "Nice variety. Great for a basic business lunch. Not too fancy but dependable good food. Since it is so large, you have plenty of elbow room while you are eating."

  • "All in all, pretty good find. Best in the area and will please everyone. We specifically went for the $1 oysters and were told after we werree seated and ordered they are only served at the bar... which was not written. So that was annoying. But pretty good otherwise."

  • "It was a great place for quick bite before heading to Madison Square Garden for a concert. The menu had something for everyone - Oysters to burgers, all good. Our server was exceptionally nice and service was attentive."

  • "Great place to hang! Bar was hopping. Lots of tv's to watch all sports that were playing that night. Very close to Garden and Hammerstein so great for pre-event meal. Food was great and service was pretty good too."

  • "Finally, there's a restaurant in the MSG area! Good food, great service, ambiance and bar scene. 1/2 block from MSG!"

  • "Penn 6 was a pleasant surprise for dinner. We had tried the bar prior to a game at MSG and checked out the menu , and decided to come back for dinner. Menu was well thought out and the food was excellent , well prepared and great presentation . Service was excellent also. Probably the best neighborhood restaurant for several blocks . This is our new go to place before a game ."

  • "Pennsylvania 6 was so much better than expected. Big bar scene in front but staff were incredibly nice and seated us on time. Great place to go to if you have an event at Madison Square Garden!"

  • "The restaurant was quite loud. It had a very popular and crowded bar- sports bar type atmosphere. We arrived on time to eat before a show and they were running 30-40 minutes behind. Thus the meal was shorter and we did not sample as much fro the menu. What we did eat was outstanding! Foodies will love the menu. Service was impeccable."

  • "I have to say we were really surprised by how delicious the food was and how really lovely the staff is. We had to wait a few extra minutes for our table but the hostess could not have been more personable and apologetic. Our waitress Alyssa was very lovely and efficient . I really didn't expect the food to be so delicious. We had the Tuna Tartar, Monkfish Osso Buco and a Burger and they were all cooked and seasoned perfectly and presented well. If your in the MSG / Penn Station area you should definitely check this place out. Bon Appetite !"

  • "I work in the Garment district for a digital company and often need to take clients to lunch. It's rough pickings down here and this is a classy gem!"

  • "P6 always delivers exceptional food. And the atmosphere is alive. Service was surprisingly slow, which as unlike past visits. Particularly when providing pre-event service, the staff needs to be aware of patrons' needs to make the event. Once again, I also write that the drink pours are a little light for the prices charged."

  • "We did make a reservation and were seated on time. Very long wait for the food and when it finally did arrive we were very disappointed. Burgers were not hot or juicy. Bread did not taste fresh. Fries were luke warm. Pizza was tasteless. Would not return to this restaurant."

  • "Finally have a go-to spot for events at the Garden! This has great food, good wine and beer lists, a nice feel to it -- everything you need before a concert or a game."

  • "It was our first time at P6. It was a random choice based on the restaurant's proximity to MSG. We were seated upstairs where the bar was packed. The manager Craig was attentive enough to notice that the bar patrons were hovering over our table and using our dinner table as a place holder for their drinks. He was kind enough to bring over a bottle of champagne for our troubles. I would recommend making a reservation and specifying that you want to be seated downstairs. It was a great scene, vibrant bar, nice happy hour crowd of professional men and women."

  • "Met up with a good friend for lunch thinking I'd have the same experience as my last outing here. The crab/mac&cheese appetizer hit the spot, the Pennsylvania 6 burger was a big let down. Bland and so-so at best and wouldn't order again. It's a cool bar / restaurant near Penn Station, but on this my 2nd visit, was disappointed with the food. Service, ambience and waitstaff all very good. But when it comes to dining, it really boils down to how good the food is. Wont say i'll take it off the list, but will definitely be looking for an alternative spot next time looking to eat in the Penn station part of town. Perhaps an off day?"

  • "When I first started going here last Spring the bar scene after work was very vibrant but it was always easy to get a table anytime and the food was OUTSTANDING!!!! Since then word got out about how this is a fantastic place. It was packed when we went in for dinner Saturday night...might be the reason my blue crab mac n' cheese was not as good as it had been in the past. It was a little burnt on the top and while the crab shreds were generous throughout...there were no chunks of crab in it like before. It is still a great spot though...especially in this part of town. The meyer lemon fritters were DIVINE and so were the bacon brussels sprouts!!! Our server was very accommodating and even the manager told me HAPPY BIRTHDAY...very classy:)"

  • "Went to the restaurant before a hockey game at the Garden meeting up with old friends. Meal was terrific and atmosphere lively. Very comfortable seating and service was very good. Highly recommend as an upscale option for dinner/drinks in the Penn Station/MSG area."

  • "The food was good and very convenient for events at MSG. Our waitress was fantastic when we explained we had to be out for the game. The only issues: I had were we made reservation with enough time to make it to Knicks tip off, but still had to wait almost 20 min. for our table. I really didn't care for the hostesses attitude. I specifically asked in reservation not to sit near bathroom, kitchen or wait stand...I got both the bathroom and a wait stand."
