A word from Penn Taproom
The owners set out to create a nice, simple, affordable restaurant with approachable food and drinks for locals and visitors alike - something they thought was a bit lacking in town. The Penn Taproom offers a varied menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, steaks, fish and seafood, plus a kids menu. To compliment the food we added a wide variety of craft beers and high end liquor selections. Both the restaurant and bar offer daily food and happy hour specials. The newly renovated building offers a classic, full bar downstairs and an upstairs dining room which can seat around 40 people. The property also has a beautiful garden and patio which can seat around 80 people in the summertime. Both can be rented for any occasion like business meetings, holiday parties or weddings.

The Penn Taproom is the sister restaurant of the Pennsylvania Soup and Seafood House in the Main Street Marketplace in Doylestown. Together, the two restaurants also offer full service catering.

Diner Reviews
  • "Understaffed & untrained staff. What trained server carries a tray with two hands?"

  • "We will return as often as possible Great piano music, courteous staff and good menu choices. Near Bucks County Playhouse. Jason the manager was very helpful to us."

  • "We took our daughter here for an after-graduation lunch and were not disappointed. After an initial delay in finding someone to seat us, we were able to choose from both the brunch and standard menus which had mostly standard choices (steak, chicken veal, pasta, salads appetizers) but turned out to be excellently done. All of us commented on how much we enjoyed our lunch and my daughter liked the look of the bar area enough (not populated at this time given early Sunday afternoon) that she wants to come back to check out the bar scene. Overall, I'd highly recommend Metro North to anyone looking for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience."

  • "We arrived and they were unaware of our reservation, not good to start. We were the only ones there and they had to put the heat on. It was a cold January sunday and we were not happy. The food and service were okay but I would not recommend to anyone."

  • "Nice and quiet and cozy upstairs. Tables for 4 or 6. Service was excellent. Chocolate cake was very good! Good burgers, and Lobster Mac n cheese."

  • "This was our first time going to Penn Taproom and we had an awesome time. The food was great and so was the beer. We started at the bar and then headed upstairs to our table. The whole place has a great vibe. Our waitress was awesome, attentive but not smothering. I will definitely be going back and I would recommend this place to others."

  • "We eat here fairly often, like outside dining in summer weather. Ate inside this time, in 2nd floor dining area, very comfortable and quiet. Had lite dinner and a few drinks. All was good! Thanks,"

  • "This supposedly in the top 10 restaurants in Doylestown according to trip adviser. Well the bun that my burger came in was burnt to a crisp and covered with a piece of lettuce. Like I wouldn't notice that. Will not be going back."

  • "Big flight of stairs!! Too much for one of us. Food quite mediocre, service the same. Wouldn't go back again."

  • "When we got there they said they did not have a reservation. I asked if they needed to see it and they said no. Building older. Menu limited to bar foods. Beer selection ok."

  • "We had a personal glitch, but Penn Taproom handled it with grace and couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating....thank you!"

  • "excellent selection of draft beers. beautiful outdoor patio but weather was too cold for outdoor dining during our visit. food was quite good but menu is limited and uninteresting. live jazz in bar very good. this is really more of a bar than a restaurant."

  • "food was very good. downstairs was very crowded and noisy at lunchtime on a Friday. We sat upstairs, not very crowded but noise level was still very high. would return for the food."
