We ate at Peninsula Grill several years ago and it was perfect! We were excited about a return visit, but this time, we were disappointed. The ambience is still great, but the food lacked that perfection we found last time. Goat cheese mashed potatoes tasted "warmed over" and the other side dishes seemed an afterthought. Salmon was delicious, but the filet wasn't the buttery experience you expect from a restaurant of this calibre. We will return and hope this was just an off night.

I enjoy dining at Peninsula Grill for not only the incredible food quality, taste and presentation but for the exceptional service offered. I often take colleagues there just to "experience" the service delivered. They truly are the best of the best. They execute a true team performance every time. Couple that with an extraordinary dinner and you have an incredible experience. Well worth checking out when in Charleston.

I recently enjoyed a fine meal at the Peninsula Grill in Charleston. The tables are nicely spaced providing for a level of semi-private dining. Service was excellent both in terms of attention to detail and also in terms of food recommendations. The food was elegantly prepared and presented beautifully. My meal and the meals of each of my guests were outstanding. It wasn't inexpensive but it is definitely a place to go for a special occasion. Don't forget to try the Coconut Cake!

We were greeted by the hostess and immediately seated at our table. The service was amazing. The chef special of the day was a Rainbow Trout with a tomato saffron sauce, with roasted cauliflower and some shrimp and clams. This was outstanding, as were the scallops that my husband ate. We had the mushroom bisque, which was creamy and delicious, served nice and warm. Of course the coconut cake was decadent!

The special Trout with the Saffron sauce should be on the menu all the time as well as the Cesar Salad that is off the menu. Skip the "Famous" Coconut Cake and go for the Banana Panna Cotta, it is outstanding. Needs more wines that are NOT Pinot Noir.

My husband I I haven't been back to Peninsula Grill for about 4 years ( too many outstanding restaurants to visit in Charleston). This was a real treat and we ll definitely visit again real soon. I got the specials of the evening, an amazing ahi tuna appetizer with a wonderfully spiced slaw, my husband had the rack of lamb which was done perfectly. My speckled trout, with clams and shrimp in a light broth over sautéed kale ( too much) blended amazing tastes together. Of course we had to finish with the famous coconut cake, 3/4 of it came home in a doggie bag since it s enough for 4 people. The service was extremely efficient , friendly and quick without feeling rushed or bothered. All in all, a wonderful experience!

We drove from Florida to celebrate our anniversary and we're not disappointed. We have eaten there before and found the menu to have an excellent sampling of their signature dishes plus interesting specials. While the wine list is extensive, it could be improved by more selections in the moderate price range ($30-50). The service was friendly and efficient and the meal was a pleasure from start to finish. We will definitely dine there again in the future. This restaurant is definitely a Charleston gem.

The classic Charleston upscale dining experience; excellent food, precision service. The signature coconut cake dessert is a must. Only downside was the noise level in the dining room, if the weather permit reserve a courtyard table.

My husband and I had dinner on our anniversary and we were disappointed. We have been to the Peninsula Grill many times over the years but this time it was just OK. Our waiter was not rude but was not up to the standard we expect. Both of our starters, trio of lobster and foie gras were good but my main course, the duck was just off of cold and after a few bites I just left it. My husband had the pork chop that he said was good. The head waiter apologiised as did our waiter and I was offered a complimentary dessert, I choose lemon tart that was just OK as the crust was far too thick and the filling far too sweet. We were not charged for my main course or the dessert but will not rush back next time we are in Charleston

My husband and I dined here on our last evening in Charleston. What a fantastic experience! The "Champagne Bar" menu and the starters are delicious small plates-so good that we ordered a number of those in place of an entree. Our favorite dish is the pan seared foie gras, served with duck confit, which is also outstanding. The lobster trio's presentation is beautiful, and it tastes every bit as good as it looks. Don't miss the oyster sampler either, just heavenly. The seared tuna starter, which was a special that evening, was well seasoned and delicious. Our server, Justin, was very professional, very personable and perfectly attentive. The outdoor garden ambiance is beautiful and romantic. Even wines by the glass were very good.

We had heard a lot about the cake but words do not describe it. Wonderful!!! Never had anything like it. My wife said her grilled shrimp were the best she had ever had and my Grouper was excellent. We returned twice for breakfast since we stayed in the hotel where restaurant is and those meals were fabulous as well. This is indeed one of Charleston's finest.

The food was fantastic. We had the Foie Gras appetizer and duck, just unbelievable. The service was so friendly & prompt. The only disappointment was the bar. I requested the "Signature" Coconut Cake Martini and the bartender didn't know what we were talking about and treated us a bit rudely. When I showed him the restaurants website that referred to the drink, as well as the recipe for this drink he treated us a little better but not much. I will definitely return to this great restaurant but will only order Champagne if I go to the bar.

This is a fancy, good restaurant with service as good as everyone says. The steak tartar is not the best I've had but non the less delicious. Good touch with bringing extra toast so one doesn't have to ask and wait. My scallops with asparagus and lobster sauce is delicious, perfectly cooked large scallops with the most generous amount of sweet lobster. The coconut cake is everything that everyone raves about. I'd give 4 1/2 stars if I could.

My wife and I celebrated our 23rd Anniversary at the Grill - unbelievably, after 18 years in Charleston, it was our first visit. Though relatively empty when we arrived (5:45), by the time we left (7-ish), it had become quite crowded, and the noise level increased proportionately. The food was absolutely to die for, and the service unparalleled! I lost count of the number of individual servers actually taking care of us, and the additional staff who took the time to wish us a happy anniversary. Definitely recommended for a romantic evening or occasion, and we'll definitely return soon. Don't miss this gem of the downtown!!
