There are no surprises on the menu but mostly items one would choose for lunch. The Pelican Grill has such a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding hills and one can eat and feel like one is on the Riveria. The food is good - the bread basket is very good! The fresh beet salad was excellent and the Asian Salad was good also. We were able to get a reservation in a short notice - so we went - mainly because of the advertising of the spectacular views. however probably because we didnt book in time- we didnt get a table with view of ocean. loved the big booths- but my husband didnt like the head chef yelling out the orders to the many chefs working in the cooking area which is in the middle of the eating area. the decor and room is spectacular. if we return to the area- i would plan ahead and request a table with view- it would be amazing to eat outside with the Pacific Ocean right there. the property is beautiful. liked that we could split dishes5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA classicThe restaurant is in the best Bren tradition. Understated elegance. Some very private, quiet tables inside and beautiful view tables on the patio. The bar scene is active but far enough away from the dining room to not interfere with quiet conversation. Service was top notch, meal was well paced, and staff was attentive and conscientious. Although food was well prepared (steak was cooked perfectly, sea bass seared but tender, etc), the notes the flavors hit are definitely on the tame/mild side, although they are well balanced. There is also a large wine-by-the-glass selection, and our server gave us some great recommendations. The outdoor patio is heated with an array of overhead heat lamps, which makes even a chilly night cozy and comfortable. Overall, Pelican Grill offers delicious food and a wonderful location and experience, but for the price maybe we would have considered someplace else.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service and ambiance wereThe service and ambiance were great. The view on the outdoor patio is outstanding. The food was very good, just very over-priced for what you get. The reviews that mention cost are misleading. The service was impecable.Your restaurant was the highlight of our trip for dinner. We also enjoyed an after dinner cocktail (and live music) in the bar. We tried to sit outside on the patio, but it was a cool night, and despite the heating elements we moved inside for the added comfort. The staff was very accomodating in the face of the inconvenience.
