Diner Reviews
  • "Our friends and family from the Dallas area visited over the weekend and we wanted to take them somewhere they would never have been before. The food was fabulous, service terrific, and the cucumber martini amazing!! They loved it so much all of them bought the Peli Peli seasoning to take home. Afterward we walked the plaza and enjoyed the atmosphere with fun music as well."

  • "I pre-informed the restaurant it was our anniversary, and they really took care of us! Our server, Virginia, was professional, courteous , knowledge and her timing was perfect. The food and ambience make it a place worthy of a return."

  • "Having written reviews for Peli Peli on several occasions, in the main I have been critical of the service. Nothing has changed! Young and inexperienced. College kids out for summer? Food quite superb, although Gumbo ingredients do not excite me. Service was rushed and inexperienced. Hardly had last mouthful of delicious lamb chop in mouth, when plate was seized from me. Within 30 seconds, the bill was presented even though I had the better part of a glass of wine to consume. My wife had indicated that she did not want dessert, so I guess the server assumed I did not either. The use of young and inexperienced wait staff continues to bug me. It won't be tolerated at the soon to open Galleria location. However, CONSISTENTLY EXCELLENT FOOD!"

  • "My fifth or sixth time dining and it was wonderful as usual. The atmosphere is always perfect with well informed servers. The food is always five star no matter what I end up getting. All in all it's my favorite Restraunt."

  • "I made reservations at Peli Peli for 6/30/14. Earlier that day I sent my beautiful girlfriend (now fiance) :) on a extravagant scavenger hunt. After the scavenger hunt was done and I purposed we were headed to Spring for dinner. We arrive at the restaurant and instantly were very surprised on how cool the restaurant was. A very contemporary artistic elegant atmosphere. You first notice all of the vibrant neon lights then you smell the aroma of the food being cooked. We were quickly seated in a special candle lit table. The service was very attentive and caring. They wanted our experience to be 1st class and it was just that! The food was amazing! Very different but delicious all at the same time. We had an amazing night! Thank you Peli Peli"

  • "Went there for my birthday and absolutely loved every single item that we ordered. I loved it. I am overwhelmingly pleased with great food and Peli Peli surpassed by thoughts. We enjoyed their signature Bobotie and their Jumbo Shrimp appetizers. Then we ordered two of their steak dinners and they were perfectly prepared with the corn and the sweet potato choices of sides, Wow!!!!!!! I am so pleased that they are opening a location in the Galleria for proximity for us, BUT, with that said, I would drive all the way to their current single location in a heart-beat, to experience other items that totally intrigued me. I totally wanted to try one of everything. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and great."

  • "We had dined at Peli-Peli for dinner, but never for brunch. We arrived at 11;30. It was not crowded and we were seated immediately. I had a bloody mary. It was excellent My wife had the prawn-cake benedict, while I had the pork steak benedict. Both were very tasty. For dessert we split the key-lime pie which was also very good. All in all an excellent dining experience."

  • "I had wanted to try this restaurant for a while and loved the decor. At first, I was a bit taken aback by the entrée prices, but the South African food did not disappoint. My husband and I decided to split a salad ($6) and an entrée ($38). (We were not charged for the split plate.) Small portion sizes. The steak was covered in "special sauces" that they are very proud of! Interesting menu - it was hard to imagine the flavors described without actually tasting the food. Great flavors - not traditional food. We also tried some SA wine - $40 btl - reasonably priced."

  • "Our server, LaToya, was the most amazing waitress ever. She was informative, responsive, nice and energetic. She really added to our dining experience. The food was (and this is not an exaggeration) the best food I have ever tasted. We were very satisfied customers and will return for a special occasion. Unfortunately, our budget doesn't allow this on a more regular basis, but it sure makes for a special treat."

  • "Where so many restaurants rehash an existing formula, Peli Peli brings a fresh approach using vibrant, contrasting yet complimentary flavours. The waiter was knowledgeable, and showed a genuine enthusiasm for the whole menu without appearing to simply agree with his guests views. The lively atmosphere brings vibrancy to this venue but also contributes to my only criticism - Peli Peli is not the greatest venue for an intimate romantic meal, mainly due to the architectural design which whilst visually stunning does not help to minimise the ambient noise levels. Overall, Peli Peli deserves its reputation as one of Houston's finest restaurants, a position it should easily cement with the opening of their Galleria location later this year."

  • "We took friends here for a special birthday lunch. Both the food and service were very good. It is a bit pricey (but we knew that going in). All the dishes were well explained by our waitress. We would have liked a little more time between appetizers and meal. Our appetizers and soup and salads all came out together and then entrees before we had barely begun so it felt very rushed which seemed odd since the restaurant was not crowded at the time we were there. We would go again. Everyone enjoyed the different foods we ordered."

  • "THIS WAS OUR SECOND VISIT AND THE PRIOR VISIT WAS FOR BRUNCH. WE FOUND THE FOOD TO BE VERY DELICIOUS BUT ALSO SOMEWHAT PRICEY. DRINKS AND DESERTS WERE MORE THAN PRICEY, THEY WERE EXPENSIVE. THE RESTAURANT IS ALSO VERY NOISY AND LOUD. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO HEAR OUR FRIENDS AND WE WERE ONLY 4. SO MUCH LOUD NOISE IS A REAL DISTRACTION FROM WHAT OTHERWISE WOULD BE A GREAT EXPERIENCE."

  • "We have been to Peli Peli several times, and it is always an amazing culinary experience. This time we went for Father's Day brunch and they had a totally fresh and delicious menu. The mimosas are spectacular and the service is one of the best. Dinning at Peli Peli leaves you feeling that you are truly living the good life."

  • "The food of course was awesome but the attention to detail, not only with the food but the attention each table was given while dining. The biblical themes brought in a very peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. The atmosphere set a tone where we were able to just escape life for a moment and relax. We truly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to dining there again."

  • "As always the food was outstanding. This is the first time we came with a little one and discovered that the restaurant is not kid friendly; no high chair and we were seated in an add-on space which did not allow us to view the ambiance of the dining room. I don't mind that they have chosen to cater to a more adult crowd and be a great place for dates. We will just not bring the little one to our next visit. It was appreciated that a photo was taken of our group to honor the birthday event and we were given a copy of the photo. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "Peli Peli has an extensive menu of unique and delicious food. Regardless of your taste for the signature spicy dishes or a more modest flavor they are sure to please."

  • "We had high hopes for a date night. Unfortunately just not that impressed with the place. We expected some ambiance, but inside looks like a Cheesecake Factory. Can you really have a "romantic" dining experience when the guy at the next table is wearing a tank top? So take all that fluff about "Houston's most romantic restaurant" and toss it. Staff was very attentive. Rushed us through the meal. Appetizer left the table 5 seconds before the entree arrived. Food, pretty good, but nothing special. Menu is weirdly "Applebee's-ish" The "South african flair" is kind of interesting but not earthshaking. Basically new american food with more seasoning. $35 for spicy fish and couscous? Meh. Interesting but not worth the premium $."

  • "Was there for lunch and the food was outstanding. Would recommend the flatbread appetizer, the chicken sandwich, the curried chicken and the sticky toffee dessert. Food was amazingly flavorful, reasonably priced, and the service and explanation of the offerings was informative and not intrusive (thanks Joshua). Wish I had been there for dinner as there were many more dishes I would have liked to explore."

  • "I went there for brunch with a small group. The food and service was excellent, BUT, I felt it was overpriced for what you got. $16.00 for eggs benedict and $10 for a bloody mary. Over $30 after tip for a small meal and 1 drink (we were all hungry 2 hours later) seems a bit overpriced."

  • "I brought my husband for his birthday after our first choice was booked up. I am so glad they were! Everything we tried was unique and delicious, the mint sauce that accompanies the lamb chops was wonderful, much better then the usual jelly at most restaraunts. My husband had the Espetada, basically a huge stick of meat dripping with a garlic butter sauce. We were in food heaven. We finished off the meal with Chef Paul's newest dessert sticky toffee cheesecake. Again, we were blown away. Our server, Latoya, was friendly, knowledgable and most helpful when trying to decide on our meals. Peli Peli will be our go to place for birthdays, anniversaries, and the occasional just because date nights. Any excuse to go back and try something new!"

  • "I first discovered this restaurant via GroupOn, and I'm so glad I did! I had only moved to Houston a few months prior and was still learning my way around and was using GroupOn to find new places to try. This one is a keeper! The menu is South African Cuisine by a Jewish chef, and is simply delectable. I love traveling and trying new foods and the fusion this chef has created is notable. I live in SW Houston and although this restaurant is 20 miles to the north, I brought my visiting closest Austin friend there (who hates driving) when he came to visit, and despite the drive, even he said it was well worth the drive. That is really saying something! I will for sure come to Peli Peli whenever I have a special occasion I want to commemorate."

  • "I heard great things about Peli Peli but the drive kept me from experiencing it for myself. My girlfriends and I decided to bite the bullet and meet here for our monthly dinner and drinks. Everything was AMAZING!!! From the ambience, to the service, to the food, we couldn't have picked a better place. I plan on returning with others I know that are in search of a great dining experience. "
