Overall, Pelago serves good food with efficient service, but not worth the prices they charge. Many good Italian restaurants in Chicago that don't leave you feeling ripped off. Case in point; white truffles at Pelago- $68 per person for a single pasta dish. White truffles at Ricardo Trattoria $38 for the pasta dish with white truffles shaved on top, same portion sizes. A $98 premium. At Pelago you can't touch a Chianti wine for less than $ 80. Several choices of good Chiantis elsewhere in the $40 range.

From the greeting at the podium to the service, food and ambiance, Pelago is at the top of the list of Chicago's best. Every dish, from pasta to fish to dessert is extraordinary. The service is superlative but never officious, and the pricing is appropriate. If you haven't been to Pelago, get a reservation and prepare for a terrific evening.

The waiter arrived at our table and asked if we wanted wine. When we said 'no thank you at this time', he seemed offended and abruptly walked away. And then when we ordered dinner (which was one entree, and three appetizers), he looked irritated as if we had not ordered enough. We both felt it immediately and joked later than we clearly hadn't ordered a sufficient amount to suit him. Then when we later asked for a wine list, he forgot to bring one. We had to ask a busboy to get us one after waiting over ten minutes,. This is NOT the way you want to be treated at a restaurant of this caliber, or any caliber.

My wife and I started with the grilled octopus appetizer(delicious, strongly recommended), then decided to split a primi piatta and a secondi piatta. The pasta in lamb ragu was outstanding as the primi. The rolled pig and duck was an interesting take on turducken (in this case duck rolled in pig.) I wouldn't order that again. We asked the sommelier to recommend a wine based on our preference and budget. It was spot on. They have an extensive wine list. The service was excellent, attentive without being cloying. We were very glad we ate there, and recommend it without reservation

We were here to celebrate my wife's birthday. It has been our third time there and it has gotten better every time. We were greeted by Chef Mauro and he specifically placed us at a very private table in a little nook. The food was insanely delicious especially the special white truffle pasta. Service was incredibly attentive and top notch - they even remembered it was my wife"s birthday and had a desert all set with a small candle. In our book, the best Italian in Chicago, and according to my wife who has eaten at the best Italian restaurants in NY and Italy, the white truffle pasta was the best ever.

Everything about Pelago was superb. The food was amazing and the service delightful. Certainly the finest Italian dining in Chicago, one the finest of any cuisine. Among the wonderful food we enjoyed were the veal ravioli in pistachio sauce, and the tastings course of pasta. I would highly recommend Pelago.

The atmosphere was quiet and intimate and the service was some of the best I've ever had. Everything from the hostess remembering that it was a special occasion, to the chef greeting us and saying hello, to the person recommending wine, everyone on staff was attentive and helpful. Not to mention the food recommendations were amazing. I was recommended the ravioli, which was easily the best pasta I've ever had. Wine list was extensive and we found a unique one from the alps that was delicious. It was my boyfriends birthday as well so they discreetly brought out a small dessert for us to share. It was personal and unexpected. All in all a wonderful meal with excellent staff and a great end to a special day.

Two of us dined here for the first time last Friday. We were accidentally quite early and they politely and smoothly accommodated us. Our trio of servers were efficient, quiet and not intrusive. Our head server was knowledgeable and helpful with the enormous (and expensive) wine list. The room is lovely - soft colors, high ceilings, a very gracious room. The food was amazing. The calamari app with roasted vegetables was beautiful and delicate. The square spaghetti with roasted eggplant and ricotta salata melted in our mouths. The pasta is homemade and prepared perfectly. The roasted chicken was so flavorful and "cozy" it was the perfect antidote to a chilly October evening. A lovely night!

We had high expectations based on recommendations and the food lived up to the hype. Unfortunately the server really spoiled our evening. We could not understand him and we really tried. Then he offered options on the menu which when we ordered he said were only available if both of us ordered it. Just a very trying evening for us. Wish we could have said more positive things.

This was a great dining experience, outdoor seating and all. The service was impeccable and the range of options present in the menu reflected the broad range of the Italian table. The pasta with lamb ragu and the gnocchi were truly memorable. The lamb chops were perfectly seasoned and perfectly red and moist when served. The wine list was superb. I would not hesitate to recommend this option to anyone I know and love who would be traveling to Chicago. Also recommend an after dinner cocktail at the Drumbar, on the 17th floor of the Rafaello Hotel, where Pelago is located. It is a perfect way to end an excellent evening!

This is my new favorite restaurant. Everything was just perfect. Our server was extremely helpful. We took his recommendation for the entire meal. Tomato and mozzarella salad to start. Very fresh Tomatoes with a light olive oil and fresh basil. Corkscrew pasta with crab, and vegetable risotto with prawns as a second course. Both of these were to die for.... could have stopped here. However, I wanted to try the fish of the day. It was a black bass with a white wine sauce. It was delicious. So glad I tried it. This will be our regular stop when in Chicago! Service is top notch.
