  • "What a surprise to chose this restaurant for a mini-reunion lunch for 3 old friends from high school and have the entire restaurant to ourselves - for the entire lunch hour! We arrived at 11:45 and departed at 2:15 and we were the only customers inside the entire restaurant. The wait service was overwhelming and at times just 'too much'? The only problem was when our waiter went to ring up our charges on our credit cards and he just couldn't seem to figure out how to do it - took way too long and we had to forgo a leisurely walk to our booked CAF river cruise to needing to catch a cab asap."

My grouper is off the regular menu…but Chef included polenta for me on the chilean sea bass. Best ev-ver. Love this place, always. Consistently excellent. The staff is absolutely the best."

  • "Had a great dining experience at Pelago. My wife and I arrived early and sat at the bar. Very intimimate. The bartender was engaging and helpful with drink recommendations. My wife had the Pelago Martini and loved it. Our waiter was very helpful in selecting the wines and the courses. He recommended an absolute jewel of a northern Italian white as well as a Sicilian white. The chef is to be commended. He allowed the ingredients to shine with simple yet elegant preparations. We all comments that the entire experience could not have been better."

  • "food is great but very small pours of wine by the glass. They charged us $12 to share 3 entrees! the temperature inside was so incredibly cold i had to go outside and stand on the street to try and warm up. Other diners were also freezing. i ask them 3 times to increase the temperature with no luck so i had to leave and step outside while my food on my plate on my table got cold. They should have given me a new warm entree. They did not. They never offered a free Deseret or a glass of wine for the miserable dining conditions. Not an apology from the chef. Nothing. Food is great if you eat it quick before it turns to ice."

This restaurant is in the heart of Streeterville and the outside dining is among the nicest in Chicago. Wait staff is outstanding, unbelievable knowledge of wines, especially Italian vintages. Susan"

  • "Personally, I enjoy the overall experience of a good restaurant. We were offered a table of choice when we arrived. As the restaurant filled we found the service to be excellent. The wine we selected was excellent with the meal. The bread and antipasto was different and delicious. We selected a chef's tasting menu that both my wife and I found to be excellent from the cheeses right through the desert. I had the meat plate my wife had the fish. Since my wife and I were tasting off each others plates. We both agreed we enjoyed the meat over the fish. The presentation of the food as it is plated was wonderful. Presentation for me makes the food so much more appetizing. All in all a leisurely comfortable dining experience downtown."

  • "Pelago was a lovely restaurant, but the service was just ok. It started out like it was going to be great, but deteriorated as the meal went on which was disappointing considering the price. Bread was offered to ever other table but ours, had to ask for pepper for salads and a pepper grind was the placed on the table for us, little assistance with the wine list and one meal had to be sent back because it was so dry. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend."

  • "I have been in the food service business for 45 years,visiting the best restaurants around the world.Pelago's food rates right at the top.Their service overcomes any reason you can think about to return.Their attitude towards the customer is insulting.Any questions were met with distain and rudeness,as if they were doing you a favor allowing you to visit their place.Their manager/owner/head waiter should be locked up in the back room.His presence is a deal breaker.At their price level good service should be automatic."

  • "I went here for a business dinner. The ambiance and service are superb--very courteous and attentive. I had the house special salad, heirloom tomato and burrata. It was a bit too salty; could not enjoy the flavor of the fresh tomatoes. And, it needed some seasoning, perhaps fresh basil or oregano. the main dish, "Square Spaghetti with Roasted Eggplant, Fresh Tomato and Mozzarella" was unremarkable. The spaghetti was way overcooked and had gelled with the sauce, such that when I tried to pick up a bit, it was clumped together. More disappointing was the desert, apple cinnamon tort. Circllar slices of apple were placed on a crust and covered with a sauce and baked, served a scoop of ice cream. It was mushy and unsatisfying."

  • "I regret the fact the check presented 4 Prosecco while we ordered just 2. Big mistake for such a restaurant. I regret the fact the waiter didn't mention the price of the specials, especially when a dish is about $ 20 more than those displayed in the menu. I regret that a 20% gratuity is compulsory... and what if we aren't happy with the service??"

  • "If you like truffles, you have to get the fettuccine with black truffle oil appetizer. It's the best!! The rack of lamb was also very good although there could have been more vegetables on the plate. Aside from the vegetables, the portions were very good and in fact much bigger than I thought they would be for me and everyone else at my table. Appetizers are definitely to share because they are so big. I did not have dessert, but the dessert's ranged from $18-20 which I thought was a pretty high price for dessert."

  • "I had high hopes for this quaint restaurant in Streeterville, but food and service were both disappointing. The art and decor in the dining room are lovely, but everything was downhill from there. Housemade pastas are gummy, sauces are bland and the bread isn't even served with olive oil unless you ask. Tenderized baby octopus is the only culinary highlight. Prices here are so high ($18 for a simple salad) and I know of many better Italian restaurants in town. Skip Pelago and go to Balena, Cicchetti or Nico Osteria instead."

  • "Love this gem of a place so close (I live a block away). Have only been for dinner previously, so I wondered if I could find anything for lunch. Have to take a pass on a lot because of a food allergy. The baby spinach salad was UNbelievable. Just when you think salads are boring staples, something like this comes along. The risotto with vegetables was...well, I'm in love. My companion had the tomato with burata (?), (the extremely fresh mozz) and swooned over it. She also really enjoyed the sea bream. Agreed with me the portions were perfect. Her ONLY complaint was not being asked about water (she doesn't like paying $9 for water, don't really blame her). She loved being intro'd to the chef. As always, service was impeccable. LOVE."

  • "Overall we had a very nice dinner at Pelago. The actual space was a little bizarre. I sort of felt like we were in a closet, but nicely decorated. More importantly, the food did not disappoint! It was delicious but very very expensive! I'm not used to paying $38 for pasta or fish for that matter. I'm glad I went but I don't think I will be returning any time soon. It's very good food but again, there is something about the actual space that just felt off to me as well. "
