  • "We were there on a recommendation. We shared everything and glad we did! We started with an appetizer of the steak tartar, which was probably the best I have ever had. Next we had the watermelon and beet salad, this was this least of my favorites for the night but it was very good. Finally, we had the rabbit and a side of Mac and cheese. This dish was life changing!"

  • "A friend introduced us to Peche last month. We enjoyed our experience so much, that we returned for a date night. Here is what you need to know: 1. Cocktails - amazing. The menu is very unique. Ask for guidance if you are unsure - Rob (the owner) asked me three questions and then told me what to order. He nailed it. Every cocktail I've had has exceeded my expectations. 2. Food - everything from comfort mac-n-cheese to exquisite mussels in a habanero coconut broth. You will throw manners to the wind and eat that broth with a spoon. There is also a daily menu, and the chef does not disappoint. 3. Ambience - go early for a quiet, intimate experience. Go later for a crowd and lively atmosphere."

The selections were lackluster and not in line with what you would expect from a French bistro. The food tasted okay just not very impressive or memorable.   • "Trying to try some new places so took the family and friends to Peche after a Zach Scott Theater afternoon. Drinks are as described, ecletic for probably most of us - if you are adventurous and your palate is varable, the drinks will delight. Absinthe abounds here! I had a lovely cocktail made from things I was familiar with but my adventurous husband didn't care for his cocktail made from Absinthe. The food was delicious. Smaller portions with homemade noodles on mine with a delicious braised chicken. Short ribs, homemade noodles etc. for the others. We shared a salad that had so many bitter, peppery greens that we did not enjoy it. The kids had broccolli cheese soup that was gone in a minute and well enjoyed."

  • "This restaurant was close to the W Hotel, so it was convenient and turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our five day trip to Austin. Great wait staff and very good food. Wine prices are a bit high and the tables are a bit too close together, but overall a very nice experience."

  • "This place prides itself on having a pre-prohibition style...which means do not expect to drink your favorite drink...you'll have to find a new one...but the staff are great about helping you find something you'll like. The food was divine!"

  • "This was a date night experience and didn't disappoint. I had the French 74 which was expertly mixed. My husband's first cocktail (Lucha) was a recommendation and it was so spicy he couldn't drink it - they happily replaced it. The mac&cheese appetizer was really good - it had smoked mushrooms which gave the dish a very smoky, rich flavor overall. I had one of the specials, red snapper and it was delicious. The side of mashed potatoes was amazing (you can't go wrong mixed with duck fat)! My husbands rib-eye was OK. We were given a small table in the "traffic zone" but they were quick to change our table. My only complaint is that I ordered a glass of wine with dinner and didn't receive it until I was more than halfway through the entree."

  • "The ambiance is charming; the experience quite pleasant. The owner who pretended to be incognito came to our table several times and made the event more enjoyable. He has strong opinions about food and drink and was able to turn me around with respect to vermouth; which I have always thought to be a simple waste of grapes. The restaurant is known for making dishes out of pork cheeks; we tried it and found the dish to be tasty but much too fatty to enjoy without simultaneously thinking about, it may be time to find a good cardiologist. The escargot was very nice and presented out of shell. We both had Red fish with Mediterranean cous-cous that was very nice; although, it took an inordinate amount of time to receive it. Pecan pie was yum"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we absolutely loved our experience! Our server was kind, knowledgeable, but not overbearing. The drinks are expertly mixed. The atmosphere was inviting with mid-level ambient lighting and a candle at each table. Our entree's were outrageously delicious as well! We will most definitely be going back!"

Plus, he was polite. I often find at trendy places like this that the waiters are rude. It was refreshing to be at a trendy foodie place with good service. "

  • "My husband picked out Peche due to its reputation on foodie sites, and that was correct -- the food was quite good. However, my husband and I almost walked out before ordering anything. He had made a reservation through open table a week before and when we arrived the restaurant was about 1/4 full. Our table was a disappointment as it was very claustrophobic and partially inaccessible. We were told upon our request for a new table that we could not have any of them as they were reserved for tables of four, including one of the three empty booths. We ended up staying, but the empty booth that I had requested was never sat in the 2 hours that we were there. Host and manager were either poorly trained or incompetent, or both. Incompetence."

  • "Peche is a fun bar that pretty much does overpriced food on the side. We went looking for food and while they had one vegetarian option on the menu, the gnocchi was deep fried. Weird. They have an extensive cocktail list and the interior was fun but that was about it. The servers were lovely, but the food was terrible. We had a kale salad which was very ordinary....still hard and crunchy and a burger which was average....the sweet potato gnocchi was deep fried...say no more. Don't waste your money!"

  • "This was my first time at Peche but I will certainly be going back! The pre-Prohibition style (in drink and decor) is both fun and romantic, great for friends or a date. The place is rather loud, so don't expect intimate conversation to work out well. The huge shelves of spirits and old-style lamps (not to mention the bartenders' garb) make for a great ambiance; the staff is friendly and very skilled. The drinks are to die for - the French 77 was especially good. I haven't seen a larger absynthe menu outside of Europe. I had the pommes frites and, while not as good as Hopfield's, the homemade ketchup was unbelievable. I would recommend Peche for groups of friends or couples who like exciting places any day. A little pricey but worth it!!"

  • "The only thing French about the restaurant was the expensive prices! The food was just ok, very fatty and heavy. The french fries really killed it for us. Have these people ever eaten real "French" french fries (or pommes frites)? And then, the bill came. Not that we didn't know what to expect, but we now knew that the food was not worth it. On the positive side, the lady who served us was extremely friendly and very nice. The cocktails were tasty."

  • "Both of us really enjoyed the food at Peché. I had the gnocchi and my husband had the sea scallops. They didn't have a wine list, but did list many interesting cocktails. No prices listed. We each ordered one, and paid $24 for the two! Drinking water with dinner does not say "nice night out" to me, but $12 for a drink is too much."

  • "Very nice, trendy place for Valentine's Day dinner or any special occasion. We had reservations, and were seated promptly. Husband recommends the Veal Scallopini--home made pasta was delicious. I had the bouillabaisse--scallops were very tender, lots of clams and mussels, and a rich sauce. I could not finish it, but I couldn't leave it! Waiter found a way to make something for us to bring it home. The drinks menu is impressive, but I don't drink hard liquor so I can't comment on it. We had early dinner, so the noise level was fine for us. It was much busier by the time we left. Would recommend to a friend."

  • "A really cool early 20th century style bar runs the length of Pech!, complete with the largest absinthe fountain I have ever seen. The space is casual but sophisticated.   • "First the good news. The salad was great (shrimp and scallop). We had wine from the list which was fair at best, and I know this place specializes in drinks not wine. What ever you do don't order the $36 rib-eye steak. You get better quality meat at sizzler (yes it was that bad). So tough it was almost inedible. Could barely cut it with the steak knife. That steak choice completely turned us off to any future visit. We knew going in that the menu was a bit strange but decided to give it a try due to some of the reviews here."

  • "If you're a local or you have guests in town, Peche is not to be missed. They will tailor cocktails to your personal tastes, often coming up with a unique drink made just for you. Be careful with the mussels that you don't embarrass yourself by licking the bowl clean. The menu is just the right length, offering a nice variety of dishes. It isn't so long that you spend forever reading it so you can make your choice and get right back to enjoying your evening. Every entree ordered was cooked perfectly."

  • "We went on New Year's Eve. Made reservations a week in advance, they called two days before asking for a credit card to keep the reservation and informed they charge $50/person if party does not no show up. It looked extreme but we agreed considering the date. Reservation was at 830. When we got there they sat 4 in a 2x2 table, asked to be changed and they say they can't, however, one hour later restaurant had enough room. Poor logistics when taking reservations I'd say, thy could have distribute the reservations along the night. That killed the mood of the night!!!!! Service was lousy too but I don't expect much on those days! Food was excellent though!"
