The flavors on the menu change quite regularly, but we had a variety (6) of appetizers as our entire meal and each one of them was delicious! Make sure you try the Charcuterie Plate!"

  • "This was our first time to Winnipeg and we were staying downtown. The restaurant was conventiently located to the hotel. Food was of exceptional quality, with local ingredients. Loved sitting outside watching people come and go. It was a Sunday evening and relatively quiet. Would definitely eat here again."

  • "We've been to this restaurant a few times in the past and have really enjoyed ourselves. At this visit there were four of us for dinner. Two of us had meals that were not up to par. The fish was very greasy, the Berkshire pork was at least, and I'm not exaggerating here, 70% fat. My very large piece of meat ended up being tiny after all the fat was cut off."

  • "The food was amazing, as expected (my friend and I both had the aged cheddar gnocchi, it was amazing). The best part though, was after knocking over my drink onto my plate of food, the waiters were right on top of it, whisked away the mess and brought me a new plate, no problem. I felt like a dummy, but they were so gracious about everything. Thanks, guys!"

Asked ourselves why we hadn't tried this place before was because we thought it was too far a walk but much closer than what it looks like on a map. The ambience was lively with a full house. The tourtiere was a little different than expected but in a good way with generous portions. The service was good. An overall positive experience and will return."

  • "We have been to this restaurant 4 times now and always for lunch. We have never been disappointed. My husbands steak was perfect. I love the butter lettuce salad. I must say that this time I had the pickerel and it was a bit dry and chewy. Although flavour was great. Our waitress was busy with a couple of big lunch tables so we didn't get the service attention we usually get. We would go back again."

  • "My husband and I wanted to choose a special place with amazing food that had no chance of disappointing us on our special occasion. Boy, did we pick the right place! We've been to Peasant Cookery about half a dozen times before and have always been impressed with the food quality and service. We really like the way the wine list is laid out, as in: $35 bottles, $45 bottles and so on. It lets you look for the style and qualities you like in a wine without fear of huge sticker shock when you find the price. Our server, Scott, was absolutely spot on for service, my steak was perfect, my hubby's berkshire pork was OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing, as was the warm chickpea salad with my meal. I highly recommend this restaurant ! We'll be back!"

  • "My wife and son took me out for an early Father's day dinner. We had dined in this wonderfulvroom when it was a fancier setting. The menu was varied. My brisket beat out that of my jewish mother. We all took home doggie bags. Service was excellent!"

  • "I like the idea of local food. However, my pickeral BLT was cold, the pieces of pickeral tiny, and I had ordered fries as my side, but received greens. The Bacon was hardly there as well. The highlight was being able to sit outside on a beautiful summer day. My niece who is a waitress was surprised that our server did not write our orders down. Maybe she should have. I have a dinner reservation coming up and am a little skittish about it. Hope is is better than our lunch experience."

  • "My husband and I finally got to go out for a much needed mommy and daddy date and we were definitely not disappointed. Our server was great, very friendly and knowledgable. She is probably the only server who actually understood my preference for wine. I usually get someone who, after i tell them what i like, blindly recomends a wine that in the end I do not like at all. The food was amazing. Simple, clean and very flavourful. Their prices were very reasonable. I will for sure come back and recommend this restaurant to everyone who will listen. :)"

  • "In Winnipeg for a business trip and chose Peasant Cookery based on the reviews from Open Table. Had a delightful meal starting with a charcuterie platter. A number of different types of sausages and meats made in house. My colleague chose the tourtière while I had a " Flintstone" size pork chop. Both dishes were well prepared and presented. Finished the meal off with some very good sugar pie. Of particular note was the excellent service provided by our server who was knowledgeable about the food as well as the beer and wine list. "

  • "Party of 4, Special occasion. Total tab $250 Waitress marginally attentive, except for the wine, which she TOOK AWAY every time she topped off the glasses. Beef Tartar-GREAT, charcuterie good, TheY were out of BOTH the Tourtière (the reason we came) AND short ribs. Half Chicken -Absolutely FANTASTIC- Lamb- OK but the gremolata was awful- Pork Chops- One was fine and cooked correctly the other was awful, at least 70% pure fat, no comment from the waitress even tho the plate was half filled with cut off chunks of fat. HIGH point. The AMAZING Beef Tartar. LOW Point- the Waitress. Oddly, she told our host, a German/French person that she was fluent in both but then couldn't speak either..fairly inattentive- NOT up to WOW! standards. Tip $25 "

  • "After hearing many reviews from friends and family we decided to give it a try. We were nothing less than impressed! The restaurant is self is romantic, high scale but also cosy. The fresh breads were a nice bonus and the mussels were to due for. (as were the fries, yum!) LOVED the Charcuterie board. I'm already planning to come back. A great evening, thanks!"

  • "This is a restaurant headed in the right direction. This Exchange District spot is trading on a well established food tradition, there is innovation here. The flat iron steak is excellent and the rib-less short rib is worth the visit alone. The sides are stars here as well, the white polenta is soft and creamy, the wilted spinach arrives steaming with just the right hint of roasted garlic. They get everything right here. The wine list is notable and user friendly - the selection of $35 reds contains some very good bottles, the $45 reds even better. No wonder this place has a series of wine awards on the walls. Reservations are not always required, but are highly recommended. "

  • "I read the menue on line and was somewhat skeptical. We met some friends for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful time. The food was awesome. The service was fantastic and the waitress was very knowlegable and friendly. I had the beet salad (spectacular) and the cheese and cracker appetizer. My husband had the pickerel and said it was very good. Th host and hostess were very friendly and the host helped me on and off with my coat- A real gentleman. Overall we had a great experience at the Pheasant Cookery. We will definitely return and recommend your restaurant to our family and friends. Julie "

  • "I love the feeling of Peasant Cookery as it is a special place to go for a nice meal but the atmosphere remains quite laid back. Some higher end restaurants tend to feel stuffy or pretentious, that is definitely not the case here. The "buck a shuck" oyster wednesdays are a great idea for drawing a larger crowd, my boyfriend and I had need had them before and had they not been $1 each probably would not have tried them. For dinner we had gnocchi and tourtierre...although the gnocchi was slightly under seasoned they were both very enjoyable. Our waitress was also fantastic! Overall a great experience, we will be back soon!"

  • "We were seated at a table tucked behind the host stand which wasn't very romantic. I ordered gnocchi. It was delicious but such a small portion, I was still hungry after. He had the half chicken. It was not visually appealing as it was all the same beige colour on the plate. His beer was almost room temperature."
