Def would return to this great establishment9/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPeasant Cookery reviewLovely, spacious building in Winnipeg;s historic exchange. Service is excellent; we felt comfortable and relaxed. We are returning to try more dishes. The mussels in cheesy beer broth was an amazing starter as was the pickerel entree which was perfectly prepared - moist on the inside; crispy coated outside. Black bean ragout and house-made salsa accompaniments were freash and delicious. Our request to share both dishes was cheerfully accommodated. We (2 women with average appetites) did not leave hungry. Highly recommended.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMComfort Food to Die For!We chose Peasant Cookery as the place to celebrate our 35th anniversary, because we love the food - especially the tourtiere - so much! We were amazed - and delighted - to find so many diners there on a Monday evening. We sat outside - even though it was quite cool, following a hailstorm. We shared a fantastic charcuterie plate. Then, although the lamb meatballs and pickerel both sounded delicious, and we had agreed en route to order something other than tourtiere, my husband simply HAD to have it. It - and the pickerel - were both excellent (although the pickerel was not a very filing meal - even for a small woman).6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceAfter having read all the reviews on line, we were not sure what to expect when we choose this restaurant. We arrived a bit early and were promptly greeted and asked if we would like to have a seat in the bar until our table was ready. We enjoyed a beverage and great service followed by being seated on time. the service was great! We happened to be at the restaurant on a Wednesday night. My husband enjoyed the oysters and myself the chicken liver starter. Both were to die for! the wine choice was excellent and the charcuterie was amazing. With these three dishes we were very satisfied and never ordered a main course. That seems to be what we do lately. Carly, thank you for your enthusiasm and making it a great evening for us!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerMy husband and I came here for our 2nd anniversary. Food was amazing. It also came very fast. Had the poutine for an appetizer - delicious. He had the lasagna and I had the gnocchi, both were phenomenal. Atmosphere is really nice, great location.
The only somewhat negative thing is we felt a little rushed. Our waitress had to wait on some big tables so she seemed more focused on them than us. She didn't offer us an appetizer to start with. Also my husband hadn't decided what he wanted for the main course, but I knew what I wanted. Usually the waitress will wait until both people have decided, but she was very quick to take my order and not wait for him. So I thought that was a little rude. But all in all, the food was amazing.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to dine. ..willGreat place to dine. ..will recomend it to friends and family.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!Took my mother here for early Mother's Day - could not have been better.
