A word from Pearl in the Grove
Elegant, hand crafted foods and boutique wines are the focus in this relaxed and intimate 40 seat dining room, just north of Tampa in rural St. Joe. A winding bucolic drive through orange groves, hills and cattle ranches, this is an unexpected haven away from congested cookie cutter Florida. The Pearl in the Grove is a European bistro with Panhandle roots and definitely an experience worth the drive out of town.

The experience is many things at once: ancestral Southern with hints of Creole, a dash of Western European simplicity, easy Sunday suppers served family style, luxurious, leisurely Brunch. Wine pairing dinners. Craft and local beers. Simple ingredients feel sophisticated but fun and effortless, like the New Orleans heritage jazz that plays in the background.

  • "Everything and everyone of you were great. Thanks for the great Easter meal. Will be back again"

  • "From the warm welcome to the tasty desert, Pearl in the Grove lives up to its name. Easter dinner was an amazing assortment of tastes and textures. The service was attentive but not rushed. I have already made our Mother's Day reservations! We love this place!"

  • "A nice surprise in the middle of pastures and orange groves. Interesting menu that changes with the availability of local fresh food. Entree's in the 20 to 40 $ range, so price is in the more upscale side. Portions were large. Good reviews online, was highly rated. Make reservations early for the weekend if you want prime time dining."

  • "This was our second time at Pearl in the Grove. The first time was for our anniversary and this time we went with friends to try the brunch. It was delicious both times! I loved my shrimp and grits for brunch and we all agreed that the cinnamon rolls we had for "dessert" were the best we had ever had!!!"

  • "You don't expect to find such a high-end restaurant so far from the big city. Innovative menu that uses local produce and grass-fed meats. Nice wine and local beer selection. Good service. Highly recommend this place."

  • "Second visit and they were consistent in their excellence!! We plan to return with friends MANY times!!"

  • "Our third time there and never disappointed. The menu changes all the time so it is like going to a new restaurant. We had a lovely Malbec suggested by our server. My husband had catfish and I had pork belly both with great sides. We split a salad. It was supposedto be golden beet but in error we got greens with strawberries. It was so good we ddidn't ask to change it. Ambience is cool. An old house literally out in theiddle of nowhere. We live in Tampa so it is a 35 minute drive but it can take longer than that to get to placed here! We highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed."

  • "The kind of hidden place where once again the "If you build it and it is different and good, people will come." Comments are true .. As others have here written the fried green tomatoes are lightly, and I do mean "lightly" breaded -- superb ... We had the Catfish which was "acceptable" but there are better things on the menu .. We will return .."

  • "I would not describe this restaurant is a winner. Seasoning was off, food temperatures were inconsistent, and service was spotty"
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "My husband and I went here for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food is made with fresh organic local ingredients. I had Yukamein with duck consumme and rabbit confit. It was outstanding! I let my husband try it, and he didn't want to give it back to me. The owners/staff were all very friendly. We will be coming back."

  • "This is literally at the corner of no where and being lost. Well worth a drive and quite wonderful southern cooking with a culinary twist. Highly recommended and will go back soon. The Fried Green Tomato was outstanding."

  • "As always, the crew at Pearl in the Grove did a wonderful job. My catfish was done perfectly. The collards were as good as mine!! I make damn good collards!! Our friends just loved the place sand will be returning!"

  • "First time here. We are already talking about going back. Crowded for a Thrs night. Glad we made reservations. We were greeted in a very friendly manner and immediately taken to our cozy table. The specials are posted on a chalk board on the wall but our waiter repeated each one for us as it was hard to read from where we were seated. All fresh and mostly locally grown dishes. We shared a stacked fried green tomato caprese style appetizer. It was delicious! Our entrees were huge and delicious as well. My husband had the catfish and I ordered the fried chicken livers, which came with rice and a peppery sausage gravy plus fresh sautéed veggies. The basket of homemade baked bread was wonderful. How we had room for dessert! Yummy breadpudding!"

  • "I took my wife and daughter up from Tampa for Sunday brunch because of all the reviews. My daughter and I both had the waffles and chicken and my wife had shrimp and grits. Our highly touted cornmeal molasses waffles (half a small waffle each) were very dry with a tiny drizLe of honey and the two tiny pieces of chicken ( more like a Cornish game hen) were over cooked and dry. The portions were tiny and expensive. My wife said the grits tasted like creamed corn. Tom B"

  • "We liked being able to have a get together away from the rest of the restaurant. We were not expecting mostly a breakfast menu. The burger was great but, to thick to eat like a regular burger. Would of liked ranch dressing. We liked the atmosphere. Might come back to check out the dinner menu when in the area."

  • "Truly a pearl in the grove!!!! The owners obviously take great pride in the food that they serve. I ordered the daily special which was a brown butter pecan glazed pork chop… I literally wanted to cry when it was finished because it was so delicious! My husband ordered a crawfish dish that he really enjoyed. We had the fried green tomato mozzarella appetizer which was amazing. The atmosphere is simple and really goes with the feel of the Pearl in the Grove. I would call it shabby chic meets glamorous. It is not overdone and overly fancy but the food in this place speaks for itself. The service is top notch! We were visited by both the chef and pastry chef during our visit. Also our server Brigitte was very helpful and prompt."

  • "we decided to hit the back roads of Tampa and we got exactly what we wanted-tranquility, and simplicity to go with a decent breakfast. We drove down some single lane roads, amongst the horse and cows and through orange orchards to find the Pearl. Greeted warmly we were seated at a spacious table for two and celebrated our find with a mimosa toast. For our appetizer(as stated on receipt) we shared a sticky bun.- the a vegetable omelet and I had their version of eggs benedict served on tomato slices vs. English muffins. Food was very good and lived up to the freshness found in a farm to table promise. The owner/cook made his rounds and added to the homey feel. Would we go back probably, does everyone need to try this once? ABSOLUTELY"

  • "My wife and I have been regulars at the Pearl In The Grove since our first visit about one year ago. Curtis and Rebecca Beebe strive for impeccable meals that are derived from outstanding ingredients like the hydroponically grown lettuces or the grass fed beef and pork to the organic assorted cheeses. The menu has good variety but we look forward to the ever changing specials offered as this helps to build up the anticipation of what to have for dinner. I have personally tried everything on the menu and love some dishes more than others but I have NEVER been the least bit dissappointed much less dissatisfied. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed and the experience keeps us coming back on a weekly basis."

  • "The restaurant has really great food - all locally grown and cooked to perfection. You wouldnt know it from the outside though, it looks sort of like an older house from the outside, but dont let this fool you. The foods is spectacular and we love it"

  • "A very enjoyable evening. Good food and friendly owners and staff. Always make you feel very welcome. Menu is always very interesting. The only thing that really dissappoints is the desserts- not really up to par with the rest of the menu."

  • "This was not your typical brunch. I had the cornmeal and molasses waffles and they were hearty and delicious. Everyone in our party was pleased with their meal. Wholesome local (organic?) ingredients and special attention to detail makes their menu a winner. We will be back!"

  • "This off-the-beaten-path restaurant is worth the trip! We had brunch and ordered the chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy and cornmeal and molasses waffles with swamp honey and fresh fruit. All of the items were outstanding. The waffles had a dense texture that I found very pleasing. The biscuits and gravy were the best I have had outside of South Carolina (where I grew up.) The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is over 30 minutes from out house, but we will be making the trip again! I can't wait to try the dinner menu!"

  • "Curtis, Rebecca and team continue to improve on a great thing. My wife, a friend and I enjoyed our meal at the Pearl in the Grove this weekend. Everything was tasty, from the amuse bouche (eggplant spread on crostini) to our desserts (save room!). We all enjoyed our main dishes as well, and the Yakamein was a delightful addition to the menu, so delicious I needed more homemade bread to soak up the consomme."

  • "This is a wonderful place to get great meals and service with a southern flair. My wife and I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. Excellent menu and wine list. Few places with this quality of food and down home charm. Probably the best fried chicken I've had, but don't tell my mother! We are already planning to drive the 45 minutes again just to try something new on menu! The name says it all."

  • "Having farm fresh food prepared on a daily basis and cooked to perfection makes this a unique dining experience. You can even choose between grain feed or grass fed beef if you choose a steak."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "The food was average. We ordered the duck breast, which had good flavor, but was tough. The shrimp creole was bland and the catfish fillet was thin and served over tough collard greens and plain white rice. Desert was a disappointment. The pastry "chef" came to the table to present the deserts and her attire was dirty and stained. The puff pastry was stale and tough, banana pudding was dry and the banana flavor was too strong. The cream cheese frosting, served on the side, was a highlight. The homemade bread had been left out and was stale. A very pretty drive and the staff was friendly and efficient."

  • "I would consider us regulars. We have a wonderful experience every time. Never had a dish I didn't like."

  • "I had been looking forward to this for several months. Based on reviews in the Tampa Bay Times, I expected an exceptional meal in an eclectic setting. Not so much. The food was uneven, the atmosphere nothing special, the service sub-par, and all of that after a 20 mile drive to the middle of no-where. We poured our own wine even though our glasses obviously needed topping off. The unevenness of the dishes was disappointing because some items were very good. But the end to the evening ensures a no-return. The manager asked us to leave when, if anyone had been paying attention (hint-hint wait staff), they would have noticed that we were waiting for the one bathroom to be available before we left for the long drive home!! Not cool PITG"

  • "on a christmas present gift certiticate has rarely been this good. my wife and i celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary by making the 30 minute drive from tampa to the pearl and we were delighted. sauteed catfish, duck breast in a wonderful broth and a nice bottle of cotes du rhone and a shared creme brulee made for nothing to not like. We'll go back."

  • "The owners of this wonderful "Pearl" know what they are doing. The menu is very energizing, not the same old run of the mill boring entrees. Great local ingredients , great service, it just doesn't get any better!"

  • "This was a great evening at Pearl in the Grove. Just the right amount of people, good food, laughter and great staff. Paul is very attentive, Curtis and Rebecca always welcoming and the food is out of this world. I had shrimp creole that has just the right amount of spice and my hubby had the pork chop special with mashed potatoes and fresh beets. We were both very pleased. Dessert was awesome, and the wine was the cherry on top. Thanks for a great date night!"

  • "Husband and I were excited to try The Pearl to celebrate our anniversary. They had a great table ready for us and welcomed us and wished us happy anniversary. Although only 7:00, they already had an entrée or two that they were out of. The food was delicious but small servings. The $40 rack of lamb (half a rack) had 3 ribs. The disappointment was waiting for someone, anyone ,to come to our table after we ate. We were curious about the desserts. Waited a long time for any attention and then WE had to ask about desserts. None seemed very compelling so we declined and then had to ask for our check. It seemed halfway through our dining experience, they were done with us ."
