Diner Reviews
  • "This is an extremely and consistently good Chinese restaurant in many respects: the staff are very friendly, the service is excellent, and the food is "a notch above" the usual, in that the dishes are interesting, the ingredients are very fresh and each dish has a distinctive taste, even down to the simple soups. This was a very pleasurable dining experience."

  • "REAL BEEF in the beef dishes.Best egg rolls anywhere. Fried rice better than Chinatown. Shrimp dishes all taste wonderful. You must go!!!!"

  • "the food and service has a high standard but the crispy duck spring rolls were tasteless and the snapper thai style overcooked, not spicy but sweet."

  • "We were seated for 10 minutes before we were given menus. We got warm bottled beer. It took 1 hour to get our food and the crispy orange beef was pink in the middle and inedible. Both the waiter and the manager were clueless and had no explanation when we asked why it was taking so long. We weren't even offered a comp for our troubles. It wasn't worth the 15 miles we had to drive for such a disappointing experience."

  • "One of the best Chinese Restaurants in the area. Food is consistently good. Kathy is a great hostess and always on top of things. If you want to have a wonderful party I suggest you check out the party menu. We had a party there some years ago and people are still talking about the food."

  • "Stands out as the best Chinese food on Long Island, hands down."

  • "The food didn't disappoint; however, the service did, and we weren't the only ones to voice our displeasure. It shouldn't take 20 minutes after guests are seated for water glasses to be filled, and only after literally flagging someone down to do it. Nor should it take so long for anyone in our area to get the attention of a waiter for service of any kind. The indifferent service makes us hesitant as first-time visitors to return if this is the type of service we can expect again. We came from Queens and can get Chinese much closer to home for less, but are willing to pay more for nice ambience and good food. But more staff is needed and those employed here desperately need to be better-trained in customer service skills!"

  • "We have been to Pearl East many times but have been seated in the back room only once. When we arrived there were tables available in the front but we were taken to a table in the back. There only two tables occupied both large parties -- at least 10 each. Consequently our service was awful. Don't let them seat you in the back!"

  • "At 4pm it was packed! Frequent diners and families packed this lively hot spot. With the grace of an orchestra leader, the owner visited tables, made food suggestions, even customized dishes to our taste. Her sushi bar is second to none! Beautifully presented. Fresh! Delicious! High kudos! Highly recommend. Make a reservation!"

  • "This was my first visit and will not be my last! We asked the owner to order and bring out an assortment of her best dishes. She even worked around a special request excluding onions in all. The cocktails were also top notch! My entire group cannot wait to go back!"

  • "Excellent Chinese food. The sizzling Rice soup was outstanding, the best we ever had. Typical Chinese Food restaurant ambience. Older crowd of patrons. Valet parking was very nice, especially on the Miracle Mile."

  • "We often frequent this restaurant and recommend it to others. The food and service is wonderful and the main dining area is lovely. Try to go on weekdays for dinner if you want to enjoy the experience. On Saturday night it is too crowded, extremely noisy and the wait can be an hour even with a reservation. If you are in the back room where a larger group is seated it is impossible to have a relaxed evening. Although apologies are offered, or even a gratis treat, we will never go back on a weekend night. It is a league above other LI Chinese restaurants so it would be great if something could be done to improve the crowd issue to be fair to all diners at certain times. We will still go back on quieter days"

  • "Food was very good-our first time-sat in back room next to large birthday party-a little loud-they were finished about halfway through our meal-reservations a must-service OK they missed one item had to take it off bill-got the feeling they treat regulars (older crowd) very we'll."

  • "When we got there the sign for Pearl East was peeling... Mostly the "East" part. When we got inside, it was smaller than it appeared on its site. Two of our three menus had duck sauce on several pages so they stuck together. The waiter was decent. None too special. I had chosen this place Bc they advertised their commitment to using steak that's as good as any other in Manhasset. Well, my husband tried to order their $65 porterhouse only to find they did not have. The filet he got was chopped way too fine and was definitely over cooked. The live music. This really meant a man essentially singing karaoke adorned in the garb of a wedding singer, shiny lapel and all. Perhaps this is more of a neighborhood joint. I would not go back."

  • "The food is always delicious at Pearl East and the service is impeccable. It was a birthday and they brought out dessert with a candle on it. There is just a comfortable atmosphere every time you eat there."

  • "The appetizers were VERY good. The waiter was a bit crude. Everyone seemed pleased with their dinner. Unfortunately I did not. The waiter should have inquired if there was an issue as my entire main course remained untouched. After giving us about 20 minutes to enjoy our meal the plates were swiftly removed, a small plate of pineapple and orange chunks appeared along with the check. We were not offered desserts or after dinner cordials etc... I would more than likely return thinking maybe what we experienced was not typical but aassociated with the Christmas rush. Overall we had a pleasant experience."

  • "We took some guests on christmas eve and were utterly embarassed. One guest was 20 min late, so we decided to order appetizers and wait to order entrees. Our waitress FORCED us to order entrees because, and I quote, our time was running out. I have never had my time run out at a restaurant. This is not an all you can eat buffet. I thought we were going to a fine restaurant. Really poor service til the end, the place was mobbed, management looked overwhelmed. My husbands meal came out so late, we were all finished eating by the time it came. We were never asked if we wanted dessert, just given the check. We usually come here for good chinese food, and my husbands office usually orders here for lunch, however after this experience neveragai"

  • "if you want sushi with your chinese food, the sushi is good and fresh. if you like wide crunchy table noodles, theirs are thin and tasteless. if you want an eggroll, not going to happen. if you want lite on the sauces, careful how you order. if you want cordial friendly service from the waitstaff, not happening. overall, good food, good selections but not the best chinese in the 5 mile radius."

  • "Went with two friends on a Fri night and was packed. Had a reservation and waited 5 minutes, but no big deal at all. Owner was very friendly as we sat at the bar. Food was excellent. I'm very picky when it comes to Chinese or Sushi, but it was high end and good quality. The 3 of us shared chicken lettuce wrap, boneless bbq spare rips and a spicy crunchy tuna roll. I dont normally like lettuce wraps, but it was really good. For main dishes we shared mango chicken, jumbo shrimp and thai fried rice. Will definitely be back!"

  • "We ate here last night and sat in the back room. The decor is so beautiful. They use this room for private parties as well but we were lucky to sit back there last night. They had three very large tables and about 4-5 tables for 2 or 4. The service was top notch. The food is always so good. Everything is fresh and prepared the way you like it. The large tables had the most beautiful platters served with hand carved animals. Beautiful presentation. This restaurant never disappoints. A true neighborhood gem."

  • "My husband and I traveled quite a bit to have dinner here. It was to be our second time here. The first time we could not get a table and had to sit at the bar. This time, we had reservations. When we arrived, we were seated at a long row of table with many other couples who were also eating. It was not the intimate dinner we intended. The food was very good, but we saw other guests who did not order dessert, but they receive complementary bowls of ice cream. They were obviously "regulars." When it was our turn, we received a plate of slices oranges with a toothpick. I did feel a bit insulted by that and I don't think I will make at attempt to be a regar here."

  • "I eat here often. The food is wonderful and the owner, Kathy, is always walking around and checking to see that her customers are happy. This Thursday to my surprise, they had a singer. He was excellent. So it was not only delicious but so much fun."

  • "From the moment you enter you know that you are in for a treat. This is one beautiful restaurant where you are greated warmly by a polite hostess and comfortably seated. The menu is extensive and the owner Cathy will stop by your table to help with any questions and make suggestions. The food was great and it tastes as good as it looks. This is a wonderful place to enjoy Aisian food at fair prices in a beautiful atmosphere."
