Diner Reviews
  • "Suzanne does a great job. Wine list is reasonable and half price on Tuesday. The dishes are things you would not or could not make at home. I had her version of Salmon and it was perfect. My wife who normally does not like beef raved about her dish."

  • "This restaurant is a quiet little hidden gem. We like dining here on special occasions since the food, atmosphere and service are all great. Many restaurants these days almost seem to pride themselves on a high level of noise and clamor. Here things are quiet and elegant, which is a nice respite from most run-of-the-mill restaurants these days."

  • "Can't wait to go back to the Pearl .... If you haven't been make reservations right now. It is a treat. The menu is wonderful the specials are better. Homemade dressing with spices from her own garden."

  • "We like restaurant and will return again. We have been there for both lunch and dinner. The dinner menu allows both sandwiches or a fuller meal. This is attractive to us."

  • "Would go again, over and over. Such great food and in such a small, calm and relaxing restaurant. Go here to never wait in line, but remember to relax. Its mostly freshly prepared and takes time."

  • "The food was very good but they certainly could have used another server. I believe that we had the good fortune of being waited on by the owner and she was a delight if not just a little too busy. The food was a mix of creative but traditional and definately did not lack in flavor. There is no doubt that I will be going back even though I live 60 miles away."

  • "Food was better than expected just sad to see this one of a kind place in a location that is hard to spot so it was empty."

  • "This restaurant is truly delightful. Atmosphere and food are personal and high quality. Love that the owner serves patrons and makes sure that diners are happy. The quiet restaurant is refreshing. "

  • "Hostess said she didn't get the Open Table reservation, which means I didn't get the points, but she was able to seat us! Menu looked interesting but we were not informed of items that they were "out of" until we ordered and both of us ordered items that they were "out of". My sandwich was interesting but my husband's meal was overcooked and sparce. For a small setting the noise level was rather loud. Sorry, but overall we were not impressed."

  • "Pearl Bistro has become our favorite local restaurant. We're so tired of bar food, tired of multiple, distracting TVs showing talking heads and instant replays. Tired of places offering quantity instead of quality. If you want a place where you can get to know the owner and the staff, where you can meet friends and linger for the evening or have a quick and quiet meal, Pearl Bistro is that place. Susan changes the menu frequently, so we don't grow tired of the selection. We always try to go for Thirsty Thursday; first Thursday of each month. Susan invites local wine distributors in to share several wines - usually five. She prepares a delicious sampler plate and it and the wines often relate to a theme, . Wines are varied and affordable."

  • "Had lunch there a couple of times and liked it. Dinner service was a little rocky even though the dining room was not full. This place has great food, a nice drink selection and a fun quirky atmosphere and should work on serving and being equally attentive to each customer."

  • "Indeed, Pearl Bistro is a gem of a restaurant. After weekly trips to Half Price Books for several years, I finally convinced my husband that we should give this establish a try for dinner. What a treat we had in store. The salmon crepes were lush and the leek soup delicious on a chilly evening. My martini was perfection. Husband ordered a burger and salad, prepared just the way he enjoys both. Although short-handed because of spring break, our lone waitress handled the entire room with a smile and excellent service. A lovely dining experience. We will be back."

  • "Love the decor. Cozy and great art poster prints. Mushroom soup was delicious, and not a boring cream broth. Crab cakes were pretty bland, but the horseradish sauce helped spark them up. Friend had the beef bourgunion and reported it was wonderful. Bread and garlic butter are always appreciated. Couldn't resist dessert and glad I didn't even though I had to get it to go. Lemon cheesecake with a warm blueberry compote was the best part of the meal."

  • "Been there many times and it remains a true gem. Marvelous food. Quiet. Pleasant environment. What more can you ask from a small neighborhood restaurant."

  • "We had high hopes after reading the reviews, but not worth it. The burger and pasta were ok, but my chicken, the special that night, was dry and overlooked. It came with avocado that seemed definitely out of a can. Service was "detached friendly" - certainly not a warm and inviting place you would want in a neighborhood bistro. Wouldn't go back. If you do go, stick to the burgers."

  • "We were there because of the deal that was offered on Northside Nights. We were very impressed with our meal. We had been there several years ago (they had not been open very long at that time) and at that time had not been all that impressed. We are very glad we went back and it is much improved."

  • "I really like Pearl Bistro. I have been there twice for dinner, and highly recommend it. Excellent entrees (prime rib, salmon wellington, goat cheese ravioli, Italian chicken, pork chops), crisp and tasty salads, and delicious desserts made in-house. Seems to be family owned, with a welcoming, multigenerational staff. The décor has a simple elegance. And: where else can you enjoy Yorkshire pudding?!"

  • "Tucked in the back off a shopping center, it's not the easiest place to find. Bur it is well worth it for the food and experience. We were served by the proprieter, who has created most of the dishes. We started with the salmon crepes as an appetizer, which were excellent. All or our entrees were also tasty, with interesting snd well prepared vegetable sides. We also tried both deserts - made from scratch and to die for! Will definitely go back!"

  • "The place works for a small quiet place that has a family atmosphere. The person on the phone was a bit discouraging later rsvp's...anything after 8:30 pm is at your own risk on a weekend...they close if they are slow. Food seemed very promising however I felt there was too much of a store bought mix....Crab cakes where over cooked and nearly black on the outside, taste was soso, chicken was very falvorful but masked potatos seemed to be from a "bob evans," microwave container. Veggies where very tasty but not appealing to look at (over cooked), bread was store bought but had wonderful herb butter. If they went the extra mile and upgraded on some of these things I would go back but this seems to be lack of focus on mangement."

  • "We dine frequently at Pearl Bistro, and decided to make it our choice for an early New Year's Eve dinner. We had received the menu electronically, and were thrilled that it did not disappoint. It was probably the best meal we have ever had at this restaurant. Everything was well prepared, served attractively, and a delight to the taste buds."

  • "We dined on a snowy night and the restaurant was not very busy. The service was very friendly and you definitely got the feeling that it is a family run operation. The food was excellent, from the appetizers through the dessert. The Beef Bourguignon was wonderful and the beef sourced from Fischer farms. The salmon and pork chops ordered by others in our party got rave reviews. We shared a chocolate cake that was a perfect ending to the meal. Be sure to try the chip mix made with Idaho potatoes, sweet potatoes and beets. On top of all of this, prices were very reasonable. We will definitely make another visit."

  • "Nice and warm on a cold winters night. Pleasant, comfortable and inviting setting in a suburban strip mall. Great tasting food; not too expensive, good selection. Just right portions. Lots of fun with friends. Will be back!"

  • "Great place to have dinner with friends when you want wonderful food, to interact with owner/chef and be able to have a conversation with friends without screaming over music. Everything is made from scratch (or most everything) with a wide range of price options."

  • "Pearl Bistro is a surprisingly charming little restaurant in an unlikely location. The variety of menu choices (including home made soups and salad dressings) is excellent, as is the food. Service is attentive; and the owner came by to be sure we were pleased with our food and wine selections. Pearl Bistro is located toward the back of a strip mall at 86th and Ditch, but is well worth the search to find it!"

  • "Trying to branch out from some favorites we found Pearl Bistro on Open Table and decided to give it a try. Tucked away but not hard to find with today's technology. Cute courtyard entrance. Very quaint, cozy feel when you walk in. Front view is of parking lot but it did not really matter to us. Service was OK but nothing to really rave about. We had the two pork dishes and it seemed the same sauce was purposed for both and tweaked just a little to make them seem different. Presentation was good, pork was a little overcooked but not bad. Cheese grits were neat and not something I see that often. Chocolate cake dessert was good but not great. Overall pretty average experience but worth a try for something different."

  • "The food was good. There were 3 menu items that they were out of, and those items would have been some that we would have ordered. I assume that the owner was the one who was waiting our table, and she was "hurried" (said I am all alone here tonight), and made assumptions that should not have been made. At one point she got a down right frustrated look when we asked for something after dinner had been served. (that is when she informed us she was the only one for serving). The date appetizer was excellent, the beet salad was excellent, and the home made chips were excellent."

  • "Pearl Bistro is a great little off-the-beaten path restaurant. It is located in a small strip mall near the back so traffic noise isn't a problem. The food is mostly French fare, but they have some American items as well. The wine list is ample and they do have a nicely stocked bar. This restaurant is a great place to visit if you want a nice, quiet, and romantic evening out. The service is excellent and the staff makes an effort to ensure that you have everything you need to have a great experience while dining. The food portions are good and the desserts are awesome (I recommend the 6-layer Grand Marnier chocolate cake). Prices are average for a fine dining experience. Overall, a very good dining experience."

  • "I will say I tried Pearls after reading all the great reviews about it. The remaki was outstanding. Jack and Larry after hours...outstanding. Potroast...outstanding. All of the food we had there was exceptional. The owner came out and asked about my entree...if it was too my liking and all...a very nice touch. After having such great entrees I decided I would have desert...which I never do....The Raspberry/Lemon cake...horrible. It was extremely dry and I had to choke it down. That being said, I will be going back because the main courses and sides are awesome. I just would not recommend the desert."

  • "It's my favoite restaurant but my wife is lukewarm. We've been six or seven times and I've always enjoyed what I ordered, while she almost always has an item she dislikes, This time the brocoli seem to be soaked in bullion so brown and very salty. I thought the fish florentine was outstanding. They have their own herb garden in planters so freshly cut can be potent. On week nights the owner may be the only waitress so when she gets busy it can be a little slow."

  • "Pearl Bistro is the epitome of the great neighborhood restaurant: a warm cozy atmosphere, clear hands-on involvement by the chef and host; and a moderate-sized menu with a mix of standards and interesting new choices. For example, for starters we tried the goat-cheese stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates (thumbs up!) but had also been tempted by the "kalesadilla," or the chip mix (potato, sweet potato, and beets). The artichoke, chicken, kale and shrimp pasta was wonderful - I seldom order pastas in restaurants because they tend to be bland and tasteless but I somehow knew this one wouldn't be...and it did not disappoint. The changing "dessert of the day" was a nice touch, too. Last not least, prices are moderate - a great value!"

  • "great food a little on the unique side, nice change of pace from the hussle/bussle of most places - you can actually have a conversation!! - points "pending" was new to me & a little confusing but Susan (the owner) went the extra mile, found out (as she didn't know either) & explained it to me - thanks :)"
