Pearl used to be one of our favorite places to dine a few years ago and then we had a couple of bad experiences. Not too sure what went wrong on the inside but we didn't go back. Last Friday we decided that perhaps enough time had passed and we'd try it again. We were pleasantly surprised....the meals were delicious ( grilled halibut, ceviche, smoked salmon plate) and the service was exceptional! We'll definitely be back.

The food was okay, not superb. We ordered a mix of tapas and entrees. The meal service was poorly planned-Anyone that ordered an entree had to wait at least 15 minutes longer than the people ordering tapas for their meal. By the time their meal came around we were already finished our dinner. The waitress was apologetic but told us that because they serve mainly tapas, the entrees take longer. Why serve entrees if the kitchen can't time them correctly with the other orders for the table? The restaurant was loud and it was difficult to have a conversation over the music. I also didn't like the payment system. It automatically suggested a 20% tip, that is a bit presumptuous and tacky. I won't be recommending this restaurant.

Food is overpriced for what you get, food was overcooked and some staff lacked professionalism. Example: the host was too busy talking to friends and blocking the door to seat us right away. Our server was great however.

We visited early on a Sunday night and got a table looking out the window which is always nice. Shared muscles & frites, olives, seafood paella which are served as they are ready from the kitchen. Muscles were nice small ones and the frites have a sprinkle of cheese on them which were extra tasty when dipped in the broth. Paella had lots of seafood.

Had a recommendation from a friend who was there but did say it was a long time ago. So we tossed up between there and the deluxe - Big mistake - given the wine list then when ordered my wine off it was told sorry we do not have any of those wines just the one on the menu. Ok - my husband ordered a beer to be told sorry we are out of that beer. Ordered the flaming prawns for starters - no flame and 4 prawns!! We ordered mussels they were tiny and half of the shells not opened. Caesar salad was ok. I had crab cakes - tasteless - with an "array" of vegetables - 4 limp green beans and a sliver of a pepper. Dessert wanted cheesecake - sorry all out of that!! Floor was dirty and unswept and music was loud and awful for late night. Then the bi

Very nice neighborhood restaurant. Good service and a nice room, BUT Very poor value. Sable fish portion so small " maybe 2 oz.", we only got FOUR bites out of the fish, 6 half pieces of baby potato, and a very small portion of vegetable. The plate was less than half full and it was medium sized plate. I have had appy's larger. No appy and 1 glass of wine each and the bill was just over $80.00. Went away hungry and very dissatisfied. On leaving we spoke to another party, who expressed the same feelings, liked the room and service, but would not go back or recommend. Must be a policy of management as you find the same thing at their other restaurant, THE ONYX, nice restaurant tasty food but very small portions and very poor value.

The service was good. The food was good; we had the salmon , halibut and desserts. The portion sizes were very small for the price and there wasn't many veggies of any kind. My companion needed a microscope to see their $8 cheescake with no garnish or coulis of any kind. I had the carmel/ pecan sundae, not bad just some icecream with a bit of carmel and nuts. If you visit this restaurant make sure you are not hungry and bring a big wallet.

I didn't try their oysters however the Flame Prawn were excellent and quite the show as well as the fish tacos. The parmesan chicken need some spicing up. Otherwise the service was great Brian was very attentive but not overwhelming. They do have a very extensive wine list with some bottles from Chateau Petrus which is tres expensive! Could not afford that one but we bought the red Round Hill Cab Sav from California - excellent and well priced.

My husband and I enjoyed our evening so much! From the delicious calamari appetizer, through a steak dinner and halibut meal, to the exquisite crème brûlée, we were well satisfied! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved the music when it was mellow jazz, but got a little distracting when the tempo and noise increased later in the evening. We joked with the server about the hockey game on TV (I would prefer no TV to distract my man!), but aside from that, the atmosphere was great.

We went for Easter brunch, turned out not to be really a brunch place though. The food was good, but Boathouse would have been better. I didn't get to try the oysters as the waitress forgot to bring them. What was most bothersome was we ask three different waitresses multiple times to close the door and keep it closed as it was very cold. Unbelievable that they kept opening it and leaving it open. It made for a very frustrating experience. There was only 6-8 tables of customers and 3-4 waitresses, I don't understand the lack of attention..

Very good brunch menu. I had the bacon and Gouda omelet and my mother had the cinnamon french toast. Both were excellent. The service turned around once we were actually served. I felt like we waited a bit monger than we should have given the amount of staff on hand and amount of people in the restaurant.

In a rush for summer aren't we all but really. The manager chose to leave all the restaurant windows and door wide open! This diner and companion found the restaurant very cold. As did other diners seen noticeably reaching for their coats. After all spring has has just arrived and White Rock is not that balmy!! My point is the food was very good but the temperature inside the restaurant cold. Was offered a blanket but sitting huddled in a blanket for dinner is not the solution. On this night the food was overshadowed with a desire to be trendy and this is a real disservice to the chef ....

Our third visit to the Pearl was a little disappointing last night. The service was off, bad timing then turned slow and food came out even slower... The food was not great, sides were not warm and creme brule was burnt. We had to leave to go to a movie and went up to pay and were basically asked to go back to our seats. Granted it was the first busy night of the season but a great restaurant doesn't have off nights like this. We will return and see if this was just an off night as the usual Pearl is excellent.

Took a long time for our appies and mains to appear, over 2 hours for a bistro type restaurant is too long. The salad was not fully dressed and watery. The salmon was done well, but no big flavour which is ok for fish. Salad said it had toasted almonds - but they were raw which is a big taste and texture difference. Calamari and oysters were good. It was very busy - Saturday evening - service at the table was slow and for the food from the kitchen as well.

Our first time to Pearl on the beach in White Rock. We were greeted by a well appointed space with friendly staff. It was not nice enough for outside dinning, although the the view from our inside table was great for people watching. The wine list was extensive and acceptable for even the most discerning wine connoisseur. The menu is diverse. We decided on sharing seafood. First flaming prawns (quiet the show!), then signature grilled oysters. Salad was with wonderful Asiago coated chicken. Our entree was pan roasted sablefish. The presentation, taste and texture of the dish was amazing!! We will be back to enjoy the deck and dine outside soon! TWO THUMBS UP!!!

Nice, attentive and fun waiter. Dark and quite atmosphere was good for chatting. Might try again in summer?

Took friends there for anniversary. Excellent service. Bought 3 gift cards from Costco. Spend 80 get 100. Oysters of course we're good and fresh. All 4 of us however couldn't find an entree that jumped out for any of us. Not like I'm going to order a steak at a seafood joint. All 4 didn't care much for our mains. We concluded that this is a great place for appys and drinks. Service was fantastic.

Dinner was overall good. Unfortunately it was the food that was less than stellar. The Oysters were good, but by far not the best I've had. That being said I would order them again. My only real issue with them was the numerous pieces of shell inside. The mussels were not good at all. For that price I had high expectations. They were small and dry. If a restaurant is going to offer bread as a side to a dish you expect some juice or sauce for dipping. Not the case. They were really quite disappointing. We also shared a chicken salad...meh. The ambiance and service were great. I've eaten here before and had much better food. This time was a bit of a let down. It's definitely not cheap so I really expected more consistency.

It's our first time to try a local restaurant as we always eat in downtown Vancouver --- boy, were we missing a lot! This was a great "first-time" experience for us! We came in during the Bite of the Rock festival and really got a great deal: Seafood Chowder, Pan-Roasted Cod and Salted Bourbon Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert --- all for $25!!! SUPERB!!! The food was delicious, the server (although she was the only one on the floor) was very attentive and friendly. The place wasn't full and I like that she seats each group a bit farther from another, so we kinda have our own privacy (yep, she gave us a table by the window, overlooking the beach and the light-adorned trees at the promenade!). We will be back for sure!

The food was great and Rachel's service was excellent (even though we were the only two people in the place). However, for three glasses of the cheapest house wine our bill, plus liquor tax, came to $34.50, more than one third of our entire bill. There is only one word for this...EXTORTION. If we ever go back, and that is a big "if", we will stick to water.

I brought my parents down for a nice lunch on the beach as it was sunny but cold. A warm dining room and happy server greeted us. Two of us had the the burger which was to die for and third was the Seafood Penne, which was great for the weather with a bit of kick but not too much. So much pasta, we had to have it packed up. Oysters were delicious and fresh and the selection of sauces complimented great! Buck a Shuck for all of January!! You can't get a better deal anywhere... check it out while it lasts!

We used to go to the Pearl frequently for special occasions, but had not done so since it changed. It is more casual now and so is the attitude. Although I would say our greeting and seating was more rude than casual-the hostess simply waved her hand towards the tables and she walked away. We didn't know which table she meant, so we stood there aimlessly until we could get her attention, and she didn't even come over to clarify. Thankfully our server was excellent. I would describe the mussels as excellent, the salmon as good and the steak as ok. For having been reputed as having an excellent wine selection, they do not have many by the glass.

We had such an amazing time at Pearl. The staff was so welcoming and never left us without a thing. Our drinks were topped up, our food was brought hot and the courses were perfectly timed. The ambience is so warm, I love the blue glow behind the bar and the orange contrasts of candlelight. And the oysters was so good! They have buck a shuck everyday from 4-6, we had our fill. And they bring you a caddy with 4 different sauces. We all had different meals, the seafood penne was so good, and my mom loved the fried chicken. My grandma said it was the best fish n chips she ever had. I really can't say enough good things about Pearl. If you want a nice spot to go with family, or a romantic night out- this is the place!

Met friends for dinner on a chilly night on the beach. Pearl was warm and welcoming. Started with drinks and appys, and enjoyed the show table side with the flamed prawns. Tried some of the new menu items, sablefish was delicious, seafood puttanesca also delicious. Our server was terrific and the wine recommendation perfect. Had a lovely evening!

THE FOOD WAS GOOD, THE SERVICE WAS A BIT SLOW BUT THE PRICE WAS WAY TO HIGH FOR THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF FOOD PRESENTED.
