  • "We sat at a communal table and it was fantastic. We ended up swapping stories and tasting each other's amazing dishes. Also loved the music, a mix of '60s psychedelic sounds and more."

  • "First impression: The tables are tightened and the ambiance is noisy. The restaurant concept is based on a variety of small dishes like tapas. The food is good and original. Despite some disparities overall it is good, original and tasty. Quickly it is a mess when dishes arrive on a table which is already full with plates, glasses, forks … Since they serve almost everything at the same time, the hot and cold dishes; hot dishes are barely warm when finally you eat them. It does not highlight this unique and tasty cuisine. The wine list is quite remarkable and sommelier is a good advice. Final feelings are mixed. Pleased to enjoy tastier and original dishes is marred by the noisy place and the avalanche of dishes. "

  • "Although we had 15 years on almost everyone else in the restaurant, the food was great and atmosphere invigorating. Playlist brought back great party memories from college, though no one in the room was sentient when these were released! I guess great music, like the great food here, is for alltime."

  • "The cocktails & ambiance at this place were amazing but the food portions were too small. I shared with a table of four which was recommended so we could all try a bit of everything but the portions weren't the best for sharing, each of us basically got one piece, except for the rock shrimp which had several piece but I was impressed. Overall the food was okay. The lamb belly, meatballs, & hickory smoked bread was my favorite. The cocktails spectacular & ambiance is great! Someone had ordered a bottle of bubbly which was uncorked by the waitress with a sword, very cool!"

  • "Packed full on a Tuesday night, the tapas style plates were mouthwateringly good. Great service, surprisingly reasonable prices. One of the culinary finds of the year. We tried over half of the menu, and can't wait to try the other dishes soon."

  • "Fantastic food and service. Epic wine list. Had a marvelous 1970 St. Julien. But god, was this LOUD!!! Impossible to hear my friends across the table. The ironic playlist (Phil Collins, A-Ha) was the protagonist of the evening, outdoing the spectacular food and the unique wine. A pity. At least the servers seemed to be enjoying themselves..."

  • "The food was excellent and very well plated. It seemed like the cocktail menu was trying too hard; although, they tasted pretty good. Get the octopus, oh and the bread!"

  • "A superb wine list - 82 Marguax and comfortable and elegant decor. definitely a keeper"

  • "Loud and fun. If you want a BIG dinner scene, this place is great. Couldn't believe how artistic the food presentations were. Great flavors. Happily recommend to my friends."

  • "Wine is my priority and these guys have a great list. Not sure why they serve their by the glass red options at room temperature. Food was very nice. Lots of great flavors. Small tables though meant I kept getting hit in the back. All in all though great food. Buy the red wine by the bottle if u want it at the right temperature."

  • "this was the best dining experience i have ever had. the food perfectly complements the wine, not one overpowering the other. the champagne saber-ing added a wonderful, non-pretentious and fun feeling to the night. chapeau."

  • "Food perfect plating needs a bit more attention.Server very informative!"

  • "I have to admit, given all the positive press this restaurant has received, my wife and I were pretty excited to eat here. We called twice and had to leave messages as to details of their corkage policy and without getting a return call, showed up with a bottle of grand cru Burgundy and were unceremoniously told it couldn't be opened. OK. The wine list is very comprehensive unless you want a wine by the glass in which the there are mostly off vintage, unfamiliar labels designed to get the most buck for the bang. The food is mostly competent but rarely inspiring. Many items we had were very good, a couple were clear misses. The room is fun except that you're expected to sit on low stools with no back support. My back was aching by the end."

  • "Great different spot with interesting food and great atmosphere. All the food is very good, nothing "you have to come back and eat again"…..but a great addition to a top 20 NYC list."

  • "i had a reservation for two bar seats but on arrival, after checking in and being told to wait, and then seeing others walk in later and be seated at the bar without checking in, was told that bar is seated 1st come 1st served. but, they also take reservations for the bar. Uh, NOT a good policy! the food was great but the noise was deafening, the crowd seemed all 20-somethinig, and the chaos and general disregard for waiting patrons was most un-welcoming."

  • "Loved IT! We actually ordered everything on the menu!!! Food was inventive and delicious. Loved the music."

  • "Small plates predominate; some too small. Food very good and inventive.Wine list extensive but have to search hard for good values (under $50)."

  • "Service was excellent, hosts were very accommodating. Most of the food was very good. Both vegetable dishes were lackluster, which disappointed the vegetarian in our party. Portions were insanely small, even for tapas. Short rib portion was about 2 ounces (billed on the menu as a more substantial portion). Servers are honest about how much to order. Even if you don't want to leave sated, expect major sticker shock when you get the bill. Plan to spend at least $70-$80 per person."

  • "We had read about Pearl & Ash in several places before going to NY; all were good reviews. While the food was all right, it was nothing extraordinary, and the noise was deafening. We could hardly converse, and it was not because we weren't sitting close enough to one another! We would NEVER return to this restaurant. We were in NYC for 5 days and ate at much better places than this."

  • "The "small plate" genre is not for everyone, but my son (big appetite) and I (small appetite) enjoyed our evening at Pearl & Ash. Particular highlights were the octopus and squid dishes. We also ordered the squab, short ribs, potatoes and meatballs. Of these, only a meatball was left on the plate. My only quibble was that we would have liked some bread to finish off many of the interesting sauces. We enjoyed an Oregon Pinot off of the very extensive and quite fairly priced wine list. The service was friendly, attentive and prompt. We'll definitely be back."

  • "This was a business dinner, but very appropriate as I'm in the wine business. The wine list is exceptional... Something for everyone - lots of interesting discoveries and fantastic quality/price ratio on bottles. The food was of course also notable. The small sharing-style plates are ideal for discovering the menu. I did find that the dessert menu is somewhat limited, but that being said, by the time dessert came along, I was too full to have any! Overall it was a great dinning experience. I won't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to wine lovers and foodies."

  • "I guess that's how you pay the rent in Manhattan: Great Quality Food with Entree Pricing, but Tapas sized portions. Huge Wine list presented 1970's style...."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Wine list is off the charts. Food portions are VERY small so order lots if your here for an actual meal. I mean double what you think youll need. However pricing is great with that in mind."

  • "Excellent small plates menu restaurant and definitely feels like a top rated restaurant. Every vegetable & fish(cod, rock shrimp, cauliflower) items we tried were amazing. 1 minor complaint is wish had more wines by the glass and also the bottle list had more interesting wines. Although did get to try an interesting wine from New Mexico(first for us), the much lauded wine list is very old school, pages of Burgundy & Bordeaux, - is what you would expect from a 3-4 star (Daniel type) place not for a gritty/hip downtown place next to the homeless shelters of Bowery..."

  • "Food and drinks were wonderful but the portions were really small for sharing. Good for cocktails and go withs rather than a whole meal."

  • "The meatballs and octopus are the highlights of the menu. The wine list is amazing. Music super loud. Too many fired and/or heavy dishes."

  • "The service; front of house & bar service was great. Friendly . The food was elegant, the noise level was off the charts. Otherwise highly recommend."

  • "Pearl and Ash really took me by surprise. I brought my wife there for her birthday and she loved it. Great food, ambience, and service."

  • "I guess this is inspired in the Spanish ¨tapas¨ concept, where a variety of plates are ordered for the table to share. The food is good, but nothing exceptional. But, what really bothered me is the fact that from the beginning the waitress told us that we had to order at once, so no possibility to repeat if we wanted to. I found that very square minded and no client oriented at all. After we finished eating, a fourth friend arrived and wanted to order something from the menu, and one of the waiters said it was not possible, with a really bad attitude. We were lucky another waitress came and said it was perfectly possible, so our friend was able to eat."

  • "Our food at Pearl and Ash could not have been more wonderful: unusual combinations of ingredients that all worked together perfectly, interesting spice additions, etc. etc. Not to be missed: the diver scallop crudo with wonderful citrus touches, hangar steak tartare with enough harissa to make it seem less like just a mush of raw meat (and served with lacy melba toasts for scooping), and unbelievable crispy potatoes with a porcini/chorizo cream. The wine list is encyclopedic, and surprisingly well-priced. The decor is beautiful and interesting as well. The only downside: music to destroy your eardrums. But it's worth it!"

  • "We were recommended to choose three dishes each and share. Was enough. Some dishes were tiny though. Extensive wine list. Very noisy place if you want a discreet conversation."

  • "Really delicious, unusual flavor combinations. Especially loved the seafood and vegetable options. Favorites were the tea cured salmon, octopus in sesame seed tahini, raw fluke, spanish mackeral, scallops, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. Though the veal and pork meatballs with bonito flakes were also decadent."

  • "I heard good things about the restaurant and went with a group of four friends to celebrate one of the friend's birthday. The restaurant did not disappoint. I know my way around wine, especially French wine, but the selection of French wine that the restaurant has, is absolutely massive. The sommelier was wonderful in recommending two very reasonably priced wines that met our criteria. My only complaint on the wine list is that other countries are not very well represented. The food was delish. The vegetarians at the table had the cheese plate + the three veggie options. All of the veggie dishes were really yummy, especially the cauliflower. My other friends seemed to really like the meat dishes too! Definitely going back."

  • "another restaurant that prohibits good conversation for the sake of loud music . servers did not turn it down when we asked . They staff/owner think they are a little cooler than they are . This takes away from the food and wine which is actually really good"

  • "Loved the food - octopus, short ribs and steak tartare. Service attentive, friendly and ver knowledgable. Surprisingly, found a mixed age of diners. Not just for a 30 year old crowd."

  • "Quite crowded so reservation is a must. We decided to sit and eat at the bar which was great. Service was great. Had a fantastic bottle of wine they suggested after discussing what we liked. Loved the small plates - great pairings of foods. Can't wait to return."
