Diner Reviews
  • "Food left much to be desired. Truffle fries were served cold and over-salted--not worth the 12 or more dollars. Waldorf salad was tasty and beautifully presented. Specialty champagne cocktail honoring the Tour De France was delicious. Pricey, mediocre food, but you're paying for the atmosphere at one of New York's most stunning hotels."

  • "visited for lunch and its in the lobby of a busy and noisy hotel; meal ordered took 25 minutes to arrive and the place was not busy- waiter came over to take order and returned to offer us coffee and dessert, not realizing we never received our lunch. Expensive and the food was not tasty. Not worth going back."

  • "It was a lovely experience, except that our server was not good and the raw seafood was not fresh. Our server was inattentive, rude and unhelpful. The shrimp were not properly de-veined, the oysters made me gag and all of the raw seafood smelled bad."

  • "It's a classic. And it always reminds me of the movie, Weekend at the Waldorf, a favorite of mine."

  • "Always wanted to dine at the NYC Waldorf and we did. It was great with good food and service. Looking forward to visiting again in the future."

  • "I have been going here for the last 5 years and while they finally figured out a better way to funnel the people through the buffet line, they made it difficult to pass since no one is going the same way (do they realize there are other people around them...a bit out of touch). When you pay about 150.00 for eggs and pastrys I guess that's the clientele you cater to. It is definitely something to experience once, but the tradition I was trying to start for my family, the desire is starting to wane to the fact that it is a burden to go there rather than a pleasureable experience. Also, the blonde at the host stand needs a personality...harsh and rude is the best way to describe her, but then again dealing with the clueless can be trying."

  • "It is definitively an experience to have a brunch at the Waldorf Astoria. If you really look into what you get for the price you pay, it is, however, quite disappointing. We are unlikely to return even though it was a great afternoon. It is just overpriced. "

  • "Lovely Easter Brunch, nice selection- wonderful desserts. Overall a very nice Holiday. "

  • "You can choose from over 200 sections of beautiful fresh fair that is outstandingly displayed. This is something you should do a least once in your life . A great experience in a classic New York landmark."

  • "The food was great. Unfortunately, the venue was overbooked and crowded for Easter... so nearly every food station had long lines. Also, the tables were too close together and they brought in rental chairs / tables... which were not very comfortable"

  • "Very elegant setting in the Waldorf Astoria. Great for lunch or drinks."

  • "Was dining alone, waited over 10 minutes to have my order taken. Felt stupid waiting, was placed at a table out the way and could barely be seen by staff. Food was nice.. experience left a lot to be desired. . Felt let down by this world class establishment."

  • "Noisy but fun. Convenient place to meet friends for drinks and small plates"

  • "But ask to be seated closer into the restaurant (away from the atrium)"

  • "This place is typical hotel lobby restaurant with noise and foot traffic. Reason all food, but not worth the money. If you are in a hurry, may want to go somewhere else."

  • "I have been to Peacock Alley several times and always had great service. Service was slow and the waiter was too busy talking at another table to notice us. Never had a problem like this even on the busiest of days. Now I know why they get bad reviews sometimes. Didn't get food this time only drinks."

  • "Eat in Waldorf's main lobby, and receive food and service deserving of this iconic name. Centrally located, quiet and warm, it's a great place for lunch. The only downside: almost no cell phone signals get through."

  • "This was my fifth experience at this restaurant and I was dissapointed for the first time with the quality of the food. Looks as though budget cuts were made and it is certainly reflected in the quality of the food."

  • "Oysters to die for, amazing smoked salmon, signature beef Wellington and dessert everywhere. Brilliant experience."

  • "Yes it's expensive, but the lobster & caviar made it worth it. The service was friendly and attentive, the hot food and seafood was delicious, the deserts were fine. It was a lovely setting for Christmas Day, indulgent but not pompous. I have eaten Sunday buffet here before and it's always good. You need to book in advance."

  • "We booked the Waldorf Astoria mainly because traditionally we prefer turkey for our Xmas lunch and Peacock Alley specified online that it was one of the meats served at the buffet. When we got to the carvery there was only lamb ( which my husband doesn't like ) baked ham( which I don't like ) and beef Wellington, not a particular favourite! Also apart from potatoes the only other vegetable was cauliflower cheese. It was all about desserts which we're not over keen on . Very disappointing as it was to be a highlight during our stay in New York from Australia! However we couldn't fault the service and the ambience, particularly the pianists. Kind Regards"

  • "The food was beautifully presented and as delectable as it looked. The setting was just magic, flowing out into the lobby area with the sounds of the piano making it a perfect Christmas Day lunch, so perfect we booked this restaurant for our New Year's dinner too. Our waiter was very attentive. This is a Christmas I won't forget."

  • "A nice change from Christmas Down Under which is a barbeque lunch on the patio followed by a swim and beach cricket. Beautifully presented range of hot and cold food demanded numerous forays for small portions to ensure we could taste from across the extensive array of foods on offer."

  • "What a lovely way to spend Christmas! The food was very enjoyable with a large variety. The staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely recommend to friends and family."

  • "The holiday ambience of the bustling city found its way into the Waldorf Astoria lobby scene. Fine food plus a late - night snickers menu with plenty of good drinks and a live jazz pianist/singer. It is a fine setting for the end of a long day exploring NYC but for a foodie looking for the best food with a view of the street life, you would find many better choices. You are fine to stay with the Peacock so long as your objective is within my opening focus..."

  • "The title suits Peacock Alley in both its energetic atmosphere and price. It is a busy Hotel restaurant for lunch and the servers and staff are always moving and noisy. In typical New York fashion clientele are always in a hurry and we were able to listen to several interesting business conversations while we were having lunch, including one complete with hardcopy Powerpoint presentation. Quality of food was OK but prices were typical New York. The $16 tomato soup was nothing memorable and the Autumn Peacock salads we had with shrimp and lobster were fresh and interesting but did not just their $30 and $32 price tags respectively. Waldorf cupcakes can be had at Costco for $7.99 for 18 rather the $16.00 for 4 at Peacock Alley."

  • "Although the food is good, portions are tiny for the price. Service is unbelievably slow for a midtown lunch spot. Probably best for tourists."
    Dined on 12/13/2013
  • "Even though we had a reservation knowing Friday night in Dec would be busy we were not seated after standing and having one cocktail at the bar area. We come here every year at Christmas knowing its hectic but the servers were especially chaotic. Not their usual gracious demeanor. We left and got to theatre area early and found mediocre bar w average appetizers for dinner. For NYC as a once a year celebration it was disappointing."

  • "The waldorf is a wonderful and magical place to stay for thanksgiving our room was wonderful......but 140.00 per person for a buffet dinner is crazy...and we had 5pm reservations and many things were gone....it was a bit chaotic and unorganized and sitting in a lobby was very strange :("

  • "Our second year in a row and it was a wonderful meal for our family (just like our first time last year). We will go again when we are back in town."
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "We treated ourselves to Thanksgiving here...was a bit overboard ($145) but worth a splurge because we weren't going out of town. If you pay that much for brunch, you expect the food to be delicious (it was), free-flowing (uh, sorta...had two wait for several items several times) and the drinks unlimited. All in all, a great evening out, but a bit steep. The buffet and food was substantial, but the choices weren't endless, ya know?"
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "The thanksgiving brunch was excellent with a wide variety of foods. The only issue I had was to move the desserts to a different spot due to the line and how it flowed."
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "My family and I were so disappointed with our thanksgiving dinning experience that I spoke to a manager to get contact information so could personally complain I will be doing that in great detail. Briefly my main complaints are having the food in the lobby with guests and luggage walking around you and through the line. The food was very average and twice I went up to get vegetables and there was none and it had not been replaced. I had researched the menu and the one item ( beef Wellington) that we were looking forward too, was not served."

  • "My sister and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving brunch. The food was excellent, and the menu suited us very much. The surroundings were elegant, and we left feeling uplifted and completely satisfied. We have fond memories of the many, many times in the past when we came on Sundays for brunch at the Peacock Alley. We love the Waldord=Astoria Hotel."

  • "I was looking forward to the Waldorf salad and so disappointed that it had too much dressing and was so small. Nice space and good service though."

  • "Do not make a dinner restaurant here! In the evening it is just a bar and the service is terrible!!! We tried to piece together a meal from the bar menu, but the food took forever, was delivered in stages and was very overpriced."

  • "I did a business lunch there and the price was out of line for the quality . Not a place I would go back to anytime soon"

  • "I have fined at this restaurant several times over the last year and it keeps getting better!"
    Dined on 10/4/2013
  • "Spacing of tables is just right because the restaurant's layout offers lots of smaller areas they result in moderate privacy. Service was warm and very attentive - without the cold arrogance found in other similar places. Breakfast food was perfect, eggs done just right, bacon crispy as I had asked, and berries were all good - kitchen took the time to only serve good ones. Definitely a good place for a business breakfast."
