The menu is, at least temporarily quite limited. There was no wine list and the glasses of wine we ordered were strange, not typical of the grapes promised. The restaurant staff continued its old pattern of bringing an incorrect entree, scallops instead of chicken to my companion. My NY Strip was good, alleged to be Angus, but seemingly tenderized with papaya extract. We'll go back in a couple months when the menu expands to give them a second shot, but they won't get a third if they don't come up to par on the second visit with a real wine list and a real menu. Evidently, the miniscule portions of a tasting menu often reported are gone. A tasty hummus was offered as an amucse bouche at the beginning of the mea.

Very loud and crowded. But the burgers are surprisingly good, even the turkey ones. The service is friendly, if not overly so at times and it is a good location. It can be a real pain to get a table if you don't have a reservation.

This is a new restaurant that clearly has not "gotten its act together". We were led into a DARK dining room, and asked if we would like the lights turned up - it was almost black - really? We ordered 4 main courses and two shared appetizers for a party of 4. We had to ask for additional plates for the two without appetizers and then small bread plates were supplied. Only 3 of the main courses were ordered - the 4th came out 20 minutes later. The bar was out of ALL non-flavored vodka - again, really? Last but not least, the appetizers were great but the main courses overcooked.........time is passing - better clean up the act.............

I have not had such a horrible dining experience in NYC as I did at this restaurant. The service was abysmal. Of the three white wines by the glass, one they were out of, one was not chilled (so they refused to serve it); we never got to the third. The food came to the table sporadically, without silverware. The evening concluded with the chef refusing to bring me my birthday dessert because he felt I could not handle the dairy products used in it (I had asked for the ice cream on the side since I don't eat ice cream and they have no sorbet options available). DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT!

Food was very good, on par or better than places like Cafe Luxembourg. Service and decor have a long way to go, but in my book those are less important factors in a dining experience.

We never heard about this new restaurant and it was a wonderful surprise. Very nice atmosphere and friendly reception, the dining room the back was quite a nice size with the purple very nicely integrated in the decoration. It was clean, well lighted. I keep this secret for my friends, and will return as soon as possible.

It's hard to explain the evening. Near empty place at 7:30pm. 30 minutes before we saw a waiter and then hard to get up and ask for them to take an order for cocktails. A very clueless lad scribble down the orders looking perplexed over what a martini was. 30 more minutes passed with no sign of him or anyone interested in taking our orders. A table near us left without food. The other was complaining that they had waited so long to have anyone take their order. We checked open table and got a reservation 15 minutes away at Cafe Lux and walked out. The response was clueless. Speechless. It was unbelievable for a place with entrees of that price point to be so bad at service. I'm sure the drinks arrived after we left :) Good luck!

My wife and I had a deal through Bloomspot for a 5 course tasting with wine pairing. The food was excellent as were the wines. Each wine perfectly matched to the dish. The pea soup was very refreshing and made with fresh peas. There was also a risotto that just melted in your mouth, a pastrami salmon that was delicious, the scallop was seared to perfection and the mousse was very light. All of the courses were absolutely delicious. Since it was a tasting menu the portions were small, alothough the wine was generous, we added an extra plate before dessert. We chose the Moscovy Duck Breast and the Truffle Oil Fries. Both were out of this world in flavor and presentation. We will be going back again for dinner when we get the chance.

The hostess spent an inordinate amount of time at one of the three tables that were occupied that night. She seemed less than egnuine in serving us. We appeared to be an afterthought to her. Service all around was coma-like... We left the restaurant with not as much as a thank you or good night. Never going back!

My husband and I had the tasting menu from a Bloomspot deal w/ wine pairings. The wine was spot-on to the dishes: foamy pea soup, mini cesear salad ( needed salt and pepper), crab and beet salad ( needed more lemon, pepper), salmon, and a raspberry mousse. Although the small portions were very tasty and elegantly presented, some seasoning and texture were missing. To start w/ a foam soup and end w/ a mousse misses the mark. Would like to go back and try something more adventurous from main menu. Regrettably, the beet was the only purple and their were no figs. Also noticed the pea purée used again to decorate salmon dish ( which could have used more veggies or a grain.)

Great food!!!! The service was also really good, the waiter noticed that I was trying to warm up the butter to help it spread better on my bread and brought us out a new plate of softer butter. The only reason they did not get 5 stars in the service department was because our meal came with wine pairing, and they forgot to bring one of them. After we were nearly done with that plate, I asked the waiter if there was a wine pairing with it (I'd been hoping that it'd be coming out at any point), and he said yes and that he forgot to get it. Not the biggest deal, we still got the wine, just after the plate it was supposed to be paired with. Decor is very purple...purple every where.

Very very expensive. Not a lot of food for the money. Three small ravioli on a over size was my main course. Not worth the money. We were there on a holiday weekend, so it was basically empty, so the service was okay, not great. Would not go again, though, the food was tasty, we needed twice the amount. Strange combinations of food, though, I do admit the food tasted good. Had to grab a slice of pizza on the way home.

Charming look to an old neighborhood spot. The former site of the Allstate cafe and PD hurley's has a refined new look. Problem is you cant eat the ambience. Food was pretty good , with notable exceptions two different kinds of potatoes both missed the mark. The thin fries werent crispy and the steak fries were under cooked. One order of duck too rare to eat. Other too well done. Both ordered as medium rare. Potential that didnt deliver so far.

We booked a party of 4 for saturday night , the bar is pretty nice but the dining room is a bit poky So the food here is the pros , incredible combination of flavors and ingredient combination. We had the goose liver a goat cheese salad and a risotto to start and each were fantastic , although the risotto was very filling the taste was amazing , we then had 2 scallops and 2 beef fillet the scallops were enormous in size and so sweat and the beef fillet didn't even need a knife to cut we practically cut it with our fork it was so tender , how do they do that . We skipped dessert but had a fantastic french cheese plate with red wine poached figs and raisin bread which was a magic end to a great dinner , will be back for sure

Food was pretty good, but the place was completely empty, and the service was awful. Asked for coffee and the dessert menu - coffee came in a thimble-like cup, and the dessert menu never came. There were only two other tables occupied in the whole restaurant, and the servers still managed to ignore us. Service staff had an average age of about 19. What amused me was that I made an Open Table reservation earlier in the evening, and the place didn't show any availability until 9:00 p.m. Very strange. I was expecting a vibrant, busy scene and we got boring and empty. Could hear the crickets from the back door. Have to admit, the food was pretty good. But portions were small, and it didn't make up for the boring scene.

We tried the chef's tasting menu which is, to be honest, not very tasty. But the part that actually prevents customers from returning is not their food but their service. Apparently the waiters/waitresses need more training. In 3 of our 5-course dinner, the food came before any utensil were served, we had to spend time staring at the dish wondering what we were having (oh, they won't tell you what the dish is when they bring the food on the table). I guess I will not return, but if you want to try you might want to wait for a few months until the servers start realizing what they are doing.

The excellent food at this restaurant is unfortunately diminished by service that I could only describe as laughable. I sat, waiting for my dining companion, for 20 minutes before I was even offered a glass of water by the constantly circulating staff. Then two waitresses and a maitre d' came to ask if everything was okay! While the bread server walked through the smallish dining room frequently, we had to wave him over to ask for a serving. Noise level was bearable, but maybe only because there were just three occupied tables in the room for most of the night. That said, my foie gras parfait and spring risotto were very tasty. I will likely not return, in spite of the good food. The restaurant needs a total service transformation.

Had 7:15 reservation for 4. Got there on time and was asked if I wanted to be seated without full party. Said I would wait the 2 minutes for the remainder of my party to arrive. At 7:17 (literally) we asked to be seated as all were present, we were then told they were running behind and asked us to wait. Did not get seated until 7:50. Our appetizers took :45 minutes and our entrees took another full hour after that. Waiter was clueless and kept bumping into our chairs because the space is so small and cramped. Food is good but expensive - service is terrible. Manager did not seem to care when I complained.

Recommend supporting this restaurant - it is one of the few on the upper west side trying to create something beyond standard fare.

They've done their best to turn a cave-like space into something sophisticated and pleasant and the result is pretty good. It was almost full when I was there and while it was lively, the noise level was tolerable. The food was quite good. I had two appetizers - the crabmeat salad and asparagus and duck risotto; my friend had the turbot with white beans. It was all delicious and beautifully presented. The portions are very small - both for the appetizers and the main courses, which I don't mind. BUT the prices are way out of line - $15 for two bites of crabmeat is nuts. I would go back if it weren't so ridiculously expensive

Sad to report that, though eager, this brand new restaurant with a very cute name is out-of-touch with reality ... for example: we arrived at 5:30 pm with a 7:30 Lincoln Center curtain ten minutes walk away, (the waiter was informed from the start); at 7 pm we were still waiting for the check. A beet root salad had four or five diced red beet squares the size of petite peas scattered decoratively on the plate. Another salad "with figs" had one fig. The food was tasty, but portions were exceedingly tiny - smaller than one would expect for a seven course gourmet tasting experience. The noise level, of course, was quiet as there were only two other tables occupied.
