Diner Reviews
  • "Been here several times the past few months. Different servers, but so far has always been excellent service: efficient, attentive but not obtrusive. Both the soup and main course this time seemed overly salty---would encourage use of less or NO salt to better taste the ingredients, (not to mention healthier). Miss the beet salad---wasn't on the menu this time. )-:"

  • "There were 10 of us seated in the Wine Room. Perfect size, well lit, and no trouble hearing each other. This was a goodbye for an employee who finally at the age of 76 was retiring. She had a delightful time and enjoyed every bite, even got a brownie to go."

  • "I started with their Miso Salad and my husband had the soup of the day. They added Gorgonzola to my salad which was excellent. For our second course my husband had their gnocchi dish which was very good and I had the pea ravioli and crab meat which was pleasant and not very complex. They also have very good wine list which they have set up on i Pads. By using different filters you can find the wine that will work for you. My only complaint was that the service was too good. Personally I like there to be a time lapse between courses and our second course was served very quickly after our first. Pazza provides a solid and pleasant dinning experience and would recommend it if you are on a schedule."

  • "Friends from S.C. had just arrived in Portland from a cross-country plane trip and they wanted a restaurant for dinner that had ambience, not too loud and had great food. A place where we could reconnect and catch up. Our choice of Pazzo made us heroes. Our server, Tara, was very accommodating and took very good care of the four of us. We each had a great Martini and ordered a bottle of wine to have with our meal. We ordered the Salmon (2), Salmon Ravioli, Risotto, 2 Desserts and 2 Cappuccinos The total before gratuity was 228.50. We considered this a fair price for the wonderful food, service and ambiance. We will always return to Pazzo."

  • "Pazzo's always slips my mind as a lunch place, however, when I go the place is great. Nice atmosphere, good menu selections and the bread is great!"

  • "Best waitress ever and made fabulous recommendations! Went back twice! When traveling back to Portland will visit again!"

  • "We have dined at Pazzo several times. It is one of our favorite places in Portland. Good ambience, delicately prepared dishes, excellent wine list, and knowledgeable and courteous service. The pea ravioli with lobster had a great balance of flavors and smooth light sauce that brought them together. The ingredients always taste very fresh. The place is excellent for dining with a small group of friends."

  • "When making a reservation I specifically indicated that there was a gluten free diner in our party. I have been to Pazzo's before and know that they have gluten free bread. When the waitress served bread at the table she did not bring gluten free bread. We then asked for gluten free bread and she forgot about it and we had to ask again. We were one of only three parties dining at that time. On another note I ordered the salmon and it was delicious."

  • "I was really looking forward to this meal but it was very disappointing. Our waiter wasn't helpful and mumbled through the meal. We never got to see a wine list or pricing. The food was just so so considering the pricing and we wished we had gone somewhere else."

  • "The food was fantastic, the service outstanding and the menu was very interesting - not your usual run of the mill pasta dishes, but interesting fresh made pasta including fresh seasonal ingredients such as ramps. Also had a great kids menu."

  • "Overall very good (especially the, albeit limited, wine selection). However, the advertised Caesar salad does not qualify as the best in town, maybe not top 10. The ground lamb panini and tomato soup were excellent. "

  • "Although I've enjoyed dinners at Pazzo's, i've never had weekend brunch there. I had spent the morning downtown shoppings and this was the perfect place in the Vintage Plaza to break for a meal. The service was exceptional and they offered a $3 Bellini special and a great choice of brunch items!"

  • "Pazzo's have the best Happy Hour in town. Great food and drinks and the best service anywhere. "

  • "First time diner visiting from out of town. Was looking for an Italian restaurant in downtown Portland fit for me and two college boys. Appealing special cocktail list. Some, like the Pazzo Manhattan, are made with homemade ingredients like bitters and bourbon-infused cherries. Delicious. Good selection of wines by the glass. Caesar salad was excellent, as were the cornmeal crusted artichoke hearts. The boys enjoyed the aged NY Strip that was served with kale and spring onions, while I had the pan roasted halibut, cooked to my liking. We're not dessert eaters, so we skipped those. The hostess and service were warm and friendly. All in all a very satisfying meal and experience. "

  • "Nice window table, ready when we arrived 20 minutes early. Prompt, friendly server who was attentive but not overbearing throughout the meal. Seafood stew was rich with prawns, clams, and langostinos, although it could have benefited from a base of pasta or rice. Overall an enjoyable dining experience. Pricey but worth it."

  • "2nd visit in a month---food and service still excellent. Menu choices are not extensive, but adequate variety. What they do they seem to do very well. The bread is great---unfortunately difficult to resist."

  • "The food was good and the service attentive, however, we did not get what we ordered on the first try. The person who delivered our meal wasn't the one who took our order. "

  • "Took 2 business associates to lunch on a Thursday. Early lunch. Waitperson did not pickup on obvious clues that we were ready to order(I said we are ready to order). Our food was good and when our plates were cleared she talked us into 2 coffees and 1 expresso. Our coffees came but the expresso had not arrived after waiting 7 minutes or more after our coffee. We eventually caught the attention of our waitperson and asked about the expresso. She looked at our table and said "I see". Returned to our table, put the expresso down, felt the side of the little cup and said " it's still warm. I was busy with a large table and I thought someone else would bring it." It was warm, but not hot. Disappointing service from a good restaurant."

  • "Best Italian food outside of Italy, extensive wine list, great service and reasonable prices"

  • "We always eat at least one or two meals at Pazzo when we are in town. They have a great lunch and breakfast is one of the best in town. The Ciabatta french toast and sausages are outstanding! This last time we came for dinner because we were looking for a place with consistently good food, where we could sit in a comfortable booth and not have to raise our voices to converse. Pazzo was the first restaurant that came to mind. One of us had the Halibut special and said it was outstanding. I had the steak and it was just pretty good, I'm not a fan of balsamic vinegar on beef. Having just come from Ireland where beef really is outstanding, it didn't compare in flavor. Pazzo really shines in the service dept. Their waitstaff is next to none."

  • "We had a beautiful evening dinner. When we got there it was slow so the service was incredibly quick and the food was amazing."

  • "Great dinner, although food and wine are way overpriced. Excellent "Caesar" salad, wonderful waitress and service, and ambience. We go here every year for our anniversary since we were married at the hotel 17 years ago, and had our wedding reception in the wine cellar. "

  • "We had a wonderful meal, amazing service and felt very catered to. Thank you for helping make my sister's 50th birthday special. "

  • "I had lunch here on Friday with a colleague from work. It was her first time at Pazzo and I suggested she try the Pasta Bolognese. The noodles are made in house and the sauce is the long-cooked meaty type. We shared a Caesar salad and then each ordered the Bolognese. There is nothing like it anywhere. I can't order Pasta Bolognese elsewhere because I judge the others against this one--and they never measure up. The noodles are tender perfection and the sauce hits all the right notes. The lunch special is always a good choice (soup/salad, entree, dessert for $16). I sometimes order a custom pizza (can't order pizza anywhere else either--Pazzo's is that good). The service is friendly and professional without being overbearing. I'll be back!"

  • "Excellent food, superb and friendly service. Asked for a dish that was not on the menu, and it was made and was terrific."

  • "I have been wanting to try risotto at a nice place where they actually care about cooking it properly, so we made a reservation at Pazzo. They seated us right away, but it was quite a wait after that. Apparently they do all of the room service for the attached hotel. It took several minutes for our server - who was very friendly - to take our order, and about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. I had always seen risotto as an app, but they call it a meal (even though it was an app portion) and charged about $25 for it. It was nothing to write home about. My husband got the black & white ravioli (which was also not a very big portion), and he thought it was good."

  • "Great atmosphere if you are trying to recreate an evening from another decade, while you are treated like royalty. Nice atmosphere for any group or couple outing. I would recommend it to a friend."

  • "Not an extensive menu, but excellent food, beautifully presented. Enough variety for different tastes. Service was great. The restaurant was not "quiet," but our booth was more than quiet enough for easy conversation among 4 people. We did dine early, though. Looking forward for an excuse to go back."

  • "WE ate early before the theater. We had a booth and I found the leg room very limiting (and I'm not tall at all). The music played on the PA system made Musak sound good and it was a couple of notches too loud. Having said that, the service was impeccable, the food reasonable, if a little limited for my taste (my wife disagreed, she thought the food was excellent) so I cant say this place will go on my favorites list Although we will probably return when its my wife's turn to choose."

  • "Overall we had a great experience. I did have to ask for bread which a customer should never have to do but when it was delivered it was delicious. "

  • "I heard by a friend about this place. I am picky when it comes about Italian Cuisine. I found this place very high quality and authentic. Love the variety of wine and the service was excellent. Will go back again and again..."

  • "My husband and I and 2 of our children really enjoyed your restaurant. I loved the way this gentleman came up and welcomed us to the restaurant. He was very cordial and friendly. The service was wonderful and very helpful. They came around and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. The waiter made sure we always had enough water. The food was very tasty. All four of us had a different dish and thought it was very satisfactory."

  • "The pizzas are fantastic, so went back the next evening. Very friendly staff. Wine list is good, but not great. My steak was fair. Risotto fair. Artichoke appetizer just OK. This place is great for late eve drinks and pizza, but not that great otherwise."

  • "This is our first stop on every trip to Portland. Consistently good from service to food to atmosphere."

  • "We have not been here in many years. We used to frequent the place before having kids and it was one of our favorites. We were very shocked to see a significant difference in the menu since our last visit. The menu is much more limiting and some of the flavor combinations presented seemed odd to everyone in our party...we actually had a hard time choosing what to select (in a bad way). The food, once arrived was very good. We all selected either the risotto or the steak...safe choices. The salads and appetizers were all very good and the wine list was quite nice. I give the food three stars due to what our party considered a limited menu. As I said, the food that we did have and the service were excellent."

  • "Had one of the best meals this year at Pazzo's. Romaine Salad with anchovy/parm a delight; Halibut and NY Steak so flavorful...Note the NY Steak topped with wine salt. Semifreddo shared by 4...Went on Sunday evening which was less frantic. Service and experience excellent. Highly recommend."
