A word from Pazzaluna Urban Italian Restaurant & Bar
In Italy, every meal is a journey… the same is true at Pazzaluna. Start with appetizers featuring a selection of bruschetta and pizza straight from our wood-burning oven; then move on to a traditional Italian dinner menu of antipasto or insalata (salad), to primi piatto (pasta course), to secondi piatto (main course), and finally a delicious dolce (dessert). Discover the truly Italian art of lingering over dinner with family and friends, making conversation, and enjoying wine in a setting that is both urban and relaxing.

For generations, my family has used The Lex as our "clubhouse" for events large and small. We have dined here as a group of 12 twice in the last four months. Tonight's experience touched on all the core needs of a good restaurant -- chefs who are passinate and knowledgable (and can produce, too), service staff who are caring, efficient, and don't panic when overwhelmed. The "foodies" at the table had a chance to order their unusual faves (rabbit, but also calamari - which for one person was a revelation of how that delicacy CAN and SHOULD taste and feel) and share with others for future reference. The decor is warm and inviting, with fun diversions in the rest rooms providing more laughs. You will enjoy this place. We'll be back!

We had a great anniversary dinner at Pazzaluna. It's a beautiful restaurant and the noise level is very acceptable. The only problem was that there were several large groups and we hardly saw our waitress. We had to ask for the check and waited a long time in between courses.

I went to Pazzaluna for a Saturday evening Birthday celebration. The food was excellent and the service was spot-on. My only complaint was the noise level. The place was packed so noise is to be expected, but perhaps acoustic adjustments could be made.

As usual, the food was great. I particularly like the arugula salad. I tried the veal saltimbocca for the first time and enjoyed it. My husband had pizza, his old standby, and he was not disappointed. We eat at Pazzaluna several times of year when attending an Ordway performance (we're from Wisconsin), and we'll definitely be back.

It was a nice place, good selection, and friendly environment. It was a little pricey for the food that you get though. I have no problem dropping $30 on a GREAT meal, but I did not think the food reflected the price. Just my opinion. I would go back however.

  • Poor service spoils good meal

    Dined on 10/11/2014
The food was generally delicious (though why add so much pepper in the kitchen?) but the poor service spoiled the occasion. The waiter was very solicitous but slow and unavailable much of the evening. I couldn't find anyone to fill my water glass. I needed a new fork but had to use the one from my salad because the waiter was absent. He never came over to ask if everything was OK after we received our entrees. We waited so long after the meal for him to return that my wife asked the hostess to find him. It was also unfortunate that our entrees arrived well before we had finished our salads (and I'm a fast eater) so we had to arrange multiple plates around the table. And the chill from the front door was uncomfortable for my wife.

Head waiter was older gentleman, probably there a long time. Seemed to know everyone else around us, spent most of his time talking with them, waiting on them hand and food, fawning over them (and even tables not in his section, far across the room). At first, rather amusing, but then annoying when we were just trying to leave, and wanted the bill. Felt like being snubbed and ignored. Don't need to be fawned over, but went for a special occasion, and would have appreciated a bit more care. Luckily, other staff to re-fill water, take plates, and even bring out food. The food was mostly delicious, but not going to make a point to return.

The staff was enthusiastically willing to cater to our special evening out - and they didn't even know it was to celebrate a special occasion. The evening started in the bar for happy hour cocktails and appetizers. Our bar tender went above and beyond by advancing our table reservation by 30 minutes to accommodate our after-dinner plans. After being seated for dinner and being greeted by our server, I asked if we could relocate to a quieter table. This request was accommodated immediately - no fuss, no confusion; just prompt, efficient, good-natured service. My husband and I went on to enjoy the rest of our dining experience in a separate dining room along with several other parties. We made the curtain time with 20 minutes to spare.

The staff were all smiles. No one was irritated and every staff person we interacted with was amazing. We started with a pizza as an appetizer which was quickly delivered. The pizza didn't disappoint. We also ordered spicy penne and salmon for our main dishes. As part of our anniversary, the restaurant gave us free dessert and a couple glasses of prosecco. Overall we had a great time for our first meal. We certainly will be back!

I went there for an anniversary dinner and we were seated right next to the door/ hostess stand. Very high traffic all night, not intimate at all. Service wasn't terrible and the food was good, but for a date it was not a great setting. I felt like we were eating in the entryway and not a restaurant.

This place has decent modern Italian food for the price. The restaurant is beautiful and spacious, with high ceilings and good space between tables, however corner tables and booths somehow still feel intimate and romantic. Be sure to get a reservation on the weekends, however I prefer eating here during the week because I found the food was better. For those with celiac disease or gluten issues, this place has a gluten free menu on request. For the most part, they just replace all the pasta dishes with gluten free penne. The prices are decent. I've received more for my money in Boston and New York, but for the area they seem fair; $15 to $40 for entrees.

Considering the Midwest and its limitations in relation to the number of people residing in and around the Twin Cities; this is one of the finer Italian restaurants you will find. The menu has a fairly wide variety of choices, for any course you are contemplating. Service quality is equal too the quality of restaurant. Clean, neat, and well maintained premises. The outdoor dining is acceptable, but limited, the noise of passing traffic and pedestrians is distracting. The quality of our meal was very good, well presented, the staff were knowledgeable, professional in their duties, cheerful, and attentive, but not annoyingly so.

Very classy and tasty. The service was expedient (made reservations and arrived 15 minutes early and the $10 valet parking was ultra convenient due to the lack of street parking) The food was exceptional (brucehtta, fettucine alfredo with a side of broccolini) and the desert was even better (lemon sorbet)...the waiters and waitresses were always around when needed but not too overwhelming (just perfect service) ....my future wife was overly pleased....which made me Da Man in her eyes....which is why I give this place 2 thumbs up...

The sauces on the pasta are heavy handed, too much cream sauce or overwhelming tomato flavor, and the fish, though fresh and expertly cooked, are usually over sauced,, but the very good wait staff will bring a more simply prepared version of the fish (olive oil and herbs with roasted potatoes if you ask.

In town for business, Pazzaluna was recommended by a local. The menu was extensive and had both traditional choices and some interesting alternatives. A strong wine list, attentive but not intrusive service, and pleasant decor contributed to a very enjoyable meal. Both of our meals - veal medallions, and a pork chop served over a butternut squash risotto - were well prepared and presented. The crowd was a mix of tables of friends, couples, and businesspeople. I recommend Pazzaluna.

We had a reservation for 6:15, didn't get seated until 6:30 even though others coming in after us were seated right away. We didn't see our waiter until 6:45. Our waiter was so busy my husband had to go to the bar to get drinks. I complained to the hostess and they did give us free dessert and a free round. However, even without the bad serious my husbands chicken was way overdone and my food was fair. Definitely never going back!

We chose Plazzaluna for our Anniversary dinner because it looked nice and we love Italian food. There's no parking close enough for an out-of-towner to find without driving around a few times, so we opted for the valet - for which we had to pay $10. The food pricing wasn't outrageous, but was what we considered higher than a normal, semi-casual restaurant. The food was fair, at best. I honestly have had better tasting alfredo at Chili's, and the $14 'half size' I got was, maybe, the size of a cereal bowl. My husband had a seafood pasta dish, which he said was good, but not great. When we left, he asked if we could stop to grab a burger because he was still hungry, too! Unfortunately, this is not a restaurant we will be returning to.

We hadn't been to the restaurant for a few years. I ordered the chicken piccata and it was terrible. It had no taste and was very white and gummy. The risotto underneath it was pretty good. My husband ordered the veal saltimbocca and the veal was not tender and he wasn't happy. Our friend ordered the lasagna and said it was pretty good. All in all, a bill of over $400.00 for 3 people, including wine, was a big disappointment considering 2 dinners were pretty bad. We will not return to this restaurant again.

We had a very nice dinner here - the menu is extensive with a large variety. The service was great & our server helped us with narrowing down the menu to our tastes. We had early reservations, so the noise level was moderate, but I think it would probably be noticeably louder later into the evening. We went for my husband's birthday and were pleasantly surprised to find out that not only did he get a dessert sampler trio at the end of his dinner, but he was also given the chance to fill out a form for a $25 gift card and parking voucher (this was voluntary... you have the option of not submitting your info). Overall, a pleasant experience and we will probably be going back (the only obstacle is that it's kind of a far drive for us).
