A word from Pazzaluna Urban Italian Restaurant & Bar
In Italy, every meal is a journey… the same is true at Pazzaluna. Start with appetizers featuring a selection of bruschetta and pizza straight from our wood-burning oven; then move on to a traditional Italian dinner menu of antipasto or insalata (salad), to primi piatto (pasta course), to secondi piatto (main course), and finally a delicious dolce (dessert). Discover the truly Italian art of lingering over dinner with family and friends, making conversation, and enjoying wine in a setting that is both urban and relaxing.

  • Saffron Risotto to die for
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 11/21/2014
My husband is not a foodie and doesn't enjoy trying new foods. He had the rustic pizza and ate the whole thing it was so good. I had the Saffron Risotto with Chicken and Asparagus in a Parmesan bowl and it was the best thing I have ever eaten. I felt like I died and went to heaven. I had two drinks and the one in the bar area was weak and not very flavorful, but the one after we were seated was exactly as I remembered it.

  • Changes At Pazzaluna

    Dined on 11/17/2014
Returned to Pazzaluna after a 6 month absence. Used to be our favorite downtown St Paul restaurant. Disappointed in their new menu. They've eliminated the half portions of pasta entrees. Full portions are smaller as well. Prices are significantly higher. The value we once loved about the restaurant is now missing. What used to be a great place for a casual weekly night out, now is just a special occasion destination.

  • What good is a reservation?
    RobMNVIP
    Dined on 11/15/2014
Made an Opentable reservation, but Pazzaluna failed to seat us. They told us it would only be a few minutes, so we went to the bar. 15 minutes later, after our reservation time, they were still unable to seat us. Another 10 minutes of waiting...So 45 minutes after we arrived, we were finally seated. What's the point of making a reservation if they are unable to fulfill the request???! Won't go to Pazzaluna again! (BTW: Once at the table the service was great.)

The soaring ceilings, intimate tables, and bustling waitstaff make for an urban dining experience unlike most in MN. The food is fresh, fine dining, but with a foot firmly rooted in delicious (not just pretty). Their citrus scallop appetizer with fresh herbs is my FAVORITE dish on the planet. The hubs loves their beef with bell peppers risotto (it's savory perfection and I usually manage to steal at least one forkful!). Overall We are pretty much always satisfied dining at PazzaLuna. Yes it's pricy, but you generally get what you pay for. Oh, and did you know about their Birthday Wine Deal? Dine within 3 days of your birth day and get your age in dollars off a bottle of wine. Great excuse to wine and dine Grandma on her birthday! ;)

As a gluten-free diner, Italian food is not one of my standbys, but I was really impressed by how much of Pazzaluna's menu can be made gluten-free (including but not limited to having a gluten-free pasta). It's a lovely restaurant, and the mussels and the creme brulee were both outstanding. We'll be back!

I have visited pazzaluna many times but am over it. Used to be a favorite pre-concert dinner destination, but will be finding a new spot. #1 - avoid on a concert night. We had 6:30 reservations and we're finally seated at 7:05. We had 2 min to review menu & order. Then had to gulp down our $30 entrees & $15 glasses of wine, so we could get out of there by 7:45. #2 - service was off in general. Disorganized, backed up, etc. #3 - avoid the risotto with brisket unless you prefer more fat than meat. Granted brisket is a fatty cut, but the ratio of 2/3 fat & 1/3 meat is excessive. Should have been trimmed in kitchen. Will be finding a new place for dinner. Food is generally good, but think by now they could manage their concert res

For generations, my family has used The Lex as our "clubhouse" for events large and small. We have dined here as a group of 12 twice in the last four months. Tonight's experience touched on all the core needs of a good restaurant -- chefs who are passinate and knowledgable (and can produce, too), service staff who are caring, efficient, and don't panic when overwhelmed. The "foodies" at the table had a chance to order their unusual faves (rabbit, but also calamari - which for one person was a revelation of how that delicacy CAN and SHOULD taste and feel) and share with others for future reference. The decor is warm and inviting, with fun diversions in the rest rooms providing more laughs. You will enjoy this place. We'll be back!

  • Poor service spoils good meal
    Dave
    Dined on 10/11/2014
The food was generally delicious (though why add so much pepper in the kitchen?) but the poor service spoiled the occasion. The waiter was very solicitous but slow and unavailable much of the evening. I couldn't find anyone to fill my water glass. I needed a new fork but had to use the one from my salad because the waiter was absent. He never came over to ask if everything was OK after we received our entrees. We waited so long after the meal for him to return that my wife asked the hostess to find him. It was also unfortunate that our entrees arrived well before we had finished our salads (and I'm a fast eater) so we had to arrange multiple plates around the table. And the chill from the front door was uncomfortable for my wife.

Head waiter was older gentleman, probably there a long time. Seemed to know everyone else around us, spent most of his time talking with them, waiting on them hand and food, fawning over them (and even tables not in his section, far across the room). At first, rather amusing, but then annoying when we were just trying to leave, and wanted the bill. Felt like being snubbed and ignored. Don't need to be fawned over, but went for a special occasion, and would have appreciated a bit more care. Luckily, other staff to re-fill water, take plates, and even bring out food. The food was mostly delicious, but not going to make a point to return.

The staff was enthusiastically willing to cater to our special evening out - and they didn't even know it was to celebrate a special occasion. The evening started in the bar for happy hour cocktails and appetizers. Our bar tender went above and beyond by advancing our table reservation by 30 minutes to accommodate our after-dinner plans. After being seated for dinner and being greeted by our server, I asked if we could relocate to a quieter table. This request was accommodated immediately - no fuss, no confusion; just prompt, efficient, good-natured service. My husband and I went on to enjoy the rest of our dining experience in a separate dining room along with several other parties. We made the curtain time with 20 minutes to spare.

The pizza didn't disappoint. We also ordered spicy penne and salmon for our main dishes. As part of our anniversary, the restaurant gave us free dessert and a couple glasses of prosecco.
