We dined here on Jan 2nd and were glad to find a decent restaurant (based on reviews) open. Although the food was quite good, the waiter was neither friendly, attentive or efficient . He got several things in our order wrong and did not even apologize for serving me my main dish 25 minutes after my husband and kids even though it was 100 percent his error . It was disappointing to experience such service in a rather fine establishment.

Pauline's is reliably excellent - well-prepared and delicious food, service and atmosphere - so we were not surprised to have a similar experience for our New Year's Even family dinner there. The menu -- including food and beverage choices -- were wonderful and all were pleased with their choices, which ranged from short-rib ravioli, to lobster and filet mignon surf and turf to scallops and pork belly in corn chowder broth.

Very Charming-loved the food! The Salmon Provincal was served with a unique combination, It was cooked perfectly and it arrived hot! The crab cakes and smoked salmon plate were delicious. The service was perfect we could not have asked for a better server. In my opinion, the only drawback might be the set up - so many tables in such a small space! If it had been busier-I think it would lose its charm. I am not sure I would choose this for an intamate dinnner. Perhaps the patrons might be quieter in the evening when it is dark and candlelit. It was great for Sunday brunch with a diverse menu!

We booked for Xmas Eve and at the time we dined, the restaurant was not packed. The service was pleasant but very slow, with little apology for that. The wait staff was kid friendly, but the clientele looked askance at us when we entered with (well-behaved) children. We felt a general coldness (a status issue?) from the clientele. Wish we had made another choice for our special evening. Nice decor, good food.

We ate at Pauline's since it was one of few restaurants open in Burlington on Thanksgiving. Although we had a reservation, the restaurant was over-run with customers and we had to wait around a half hour to be seated after standing in a crowded foyer. The food was passable, but they had run out of several Thanksgiving menu choices. The waitress was probably over-worked and less than her most gracious self, although not rude. I feel that on an average day, this would have been a passable restaurant, but for a special occasion, not so good.

The squash and rice entree was super, for me the vegetarian of the group. Especially since it included a sampling of thanksgiving dinner veggies. I had the impression that the traditional thanksgiving dinner was very good but not great. Always hard to top a home cooked turkey. Soup, salad and desserts were very good.

Place was very crowded and we were seated in a back room near the restroom, kitchen and the only handicapped entrance. Did not know the exit was there until an elderly lady needed to leave, for some reason the entire group with this lady decided to exit through the same door. Well, with no air lock and a 10 degree night that 30 seconds of that opened door really chilled the entire room! It really made us feel like we were the extra income for the night and just a way to pack a few more people in. The new waiter that we had also helped to reinforce that point. He tried hard but it was clear that he had little to no training but there’s money to be made!

Pauline's is a good restaurant but not as good as it used to be. In the past I loved the crab cakes. The recipe has changed, not as flavorful or moist. I don't order them anymore. The other night we were seated upstairs. I don't find the ambience upstairs as pleasant. Finally, I ordered a hangar steak. It was grilled according to my request. However, it was a bit tough and the vegetables did not look that appetizing though they tasted fine. My last couple of visits to Pauline's I've found it to be less classy than in the past, especially considering the prices.

Service was great, food was uneven. Wonderful appetizer of smoked salmon- fresh and very flavorful. But then the schnitzel was too heavily breaded but the flavor of the sauce was very good. Side vegetables very fresh and cooked properly. I think a little expensive given the overall experience.

Cozy and inviting atmosphere, Pauline's was a great find away from the hubbub of Church St. The mashed potato crusted turkey pot pie was a delicious comfort food and the poached pear and blue cheese salad was exceptional. Service was good and and the bread basket included warm brioche rolls that were heavenly. The restaurant was busy, but we never felt rushed. We would definitely return to Pauline's!

Returning to the Burlington area after a long absence, we were curious to see if Pauline's was still the friendly, high quality dining experience if our memory - and anxious that things might have changed over time. We need not have worried. Menus reflect high quality ingredients, creatively prepared and the essence of the place, easy hospitality, has not changed at at all. Our fine meals of escargot, swordfish, risotto and ribs, combined with excellent wines and decadent deserts fueled a lively conversation with an old friend. On one of the area's busiest tourism weekends and with a full house, the staff provided attentive service without a hint of rushing us.

We love the brunch here and the quality of the ingredients is quite good. The hollandaise served on a number of delightful brunch benedicts is perfect consistency. Served over the must be homemade popover with smoked salmon and fresh spinach was excellent along with other diners dishes. Service was somewhat slow, although we had 3 kids and food could have been a tad hotter but overall great brunch!

I have been to Pauline's many times in the past but they are under new management. It was as good as ever. Interesting bread to start. The 6 escargots were delicious in their puff pastry. The Maine crab cakes were perfectly cooked, with plenty of crab and little filler, and with interesting accompanying vegetables. My partner had a bean "cake" that was all vegetable but surprisingly steaklike. The wine was good although I would have liked a bit more in the serving. ALso had good local beer on tap. The waiter was attentive but not overly solicitous, and the kitchen was prompt. For dessert we had a chocolate sundae, ok, and a flourless chocolate cake with rasberry sauce, excellent. Overall, a delightful experience!

The atmosphere is lively and the upstairs seating was roomier than downstairs so it made for comfortable dining. There were four of us having a special dinner out celebrating a birthday and from start to finish everything was superb. Our waitstaff was very attentive, but not intrusively so, and the meal itself was done to perfection. I highly recommended the mixed seafood grill.

We happened on Pauline's when we were looking for a restaurant with gluten-free options in Burlington, Vermont, shortly after arriving there. They had plenty of gluten-free options for my husband; many of the meals on the menu could be prepared gluten-free. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Pauline's ambiance and food is upscale rustic home cooking. The asparagus still has a crunch, and the sauces on the meats tend to have a french country taste and texture.
