A word from Paulette's Restaurant at the River Inn of Harbor Town
Paulette's Restaurant at the AAA 4 Diamond - River Inn of Harbor Town

Paulette's, which has been operating successfully in Memphis for 37 years, recently moved its popular, award winning operation to the River Inn. It has been descibed by one reviewer as "A Memphis institution and for a very good reason". Paulette's is serving the same soups, salads, and entrees that have made it so well known throughout the mid-south for many years. The restaurant has always been famous for its desserts and hot popovers with strawberry butter. Paulette's Executive Chef Todd Clements features his exquisite creations on a daily basis. Paulette's has a distinct warmth, charm and ambiance that is unsurpassed in the city. Restaurant polls have annually recognized Paulette's as Memphis" "Most Romantic" and for it's cuisine - "Best Continental". Renowned local critic, Fredric Koeppel says, "The service is maintained at a consistent level of knowledge, polish, and consideration".Continued

  • "For over 30 years we have enjoyed Paulette's. The experience is always consistent - the servers, the food presentation, the ambiance. ALWAYS a very pleasant dining experience!"

  • "Was fearful when Paulette's moved to Harbor Town. But turned out well--- in fact Paulette's is now even better. Two years ago my beautiful bride and I selected Paulette's as the site for our small post-wedding dinner for family members. Awesome food... awesome service. We continue to return on special occasions as well as for our anniversary each year. And so it was the other evening-- our second wedding anniversary--- she-crab soup and grilled pear salad were great starters--- steak and grouper were perfect-- excellent wine selections-- great blueberry bread pudding dessert. We'll see Paulette's again soon. Oh by the way-- we celebrated New Years at Paulette's-- it was fabulous. Keep up the great work!"

  • "Had a business lunch. Wonderful service and great food. A spectacular place to take clients and talk business. The staff was great.....our waitress Donna was excellent. "

  • "We both requested a salad with Grilled Salmon. The plate was so small!! Few leaves of greens. Grilled salmon was good. We were served what looked like fried bread!!! We left the restaurant hungry ... Paid $16 each!!! Shame!"

  • "For a restaurant of this level to serve cold and overcooked food is totally unacceptable. We have to send food back. I have visited this restaurant for the past 15 years, but this was my last one."

  • "Enjoyable evening complete with wonderful choices of appetizers, entrees and desserts complimented with priceless fresh popovers & strawberry butter too ! ! ! Uniquely a Memphis treasure . . ."

  • "Paulette's is a special occasion place for our family - we aren't able to go often. But when we do, it is always wonderful. Food, service, and atmosphere are terrific. Highly recommended."

  • "I would highly recommend Paulette's if you are seeking to have a romantic evening. The restaurant is tucked away in the affluent neighborhood of Harbor Town. The Monday 3 course special for $19.95 is a winner. Take a walk and explore the "little town" after dinner, lounge in the adjacent hotel bar with a live piano player playing soft melodies or hang out upstairs at Terrace at the River Inn and enjoy the most spectacular views of the Mississippi River and the Downtown Memphis skyline."

  • "This is our "go to" favorite restaurant in Memphis! It is always just right and makes us wonder why we don't go there more often. Reasonably priced - absolutely wonderful food."

  • "The wife and I were there last Tuesday at the wine pairing dinner. I wrote the restaurant a private message hoping for a similar response but not receiving such I will have to divulge. The first course was a tuna tartar, there was no discussion that it was fish because it was as fishy tasting as any bad tartar could be, it was really bad, don't these guys taste their product before it goes out. The second dish was sea bass, not as bad for fishiness but still there. I did eat the sea bass because I was really hungry by that time but would not recommend it to the general public. Would I return, yes, because they do well with the standard fare as in the Sunday brunch."

  • "We were from out of town and celebrating our anniversary. Had a very nice time. Drinks upstairs to start. food and service good but only knock was cold food at times. had to send it back."

  • "Paulette's never disappoints. I have been coming here when my then boyfriend and I discovered it in the 1970's when we only could afford the desserts. I chose it as a special introduction to fine dining and etiquette for my 10 year old grandson. We were served promptly so we could leave in time for the Orpheum. The wait staff could not have been more gracious and accommodating. She brought the dessert menus early so we could plan ahead and leave plenty of room for the most important course. She was so kind as my grandson got some etiquette prompting about who picked up the plates and which utensils to use. He was so impressed he suggested we need to bring his little sister, anticipating and desiring a second visit."

  • "From the salad to Filet Paulette's signature steak..it was a total disaster for us on my wife's birthday. We simply chose all the wrong items, suspect they were all prepared well, we just did not like any of the meal on our third visit including a stay in one of the top floor suites (which was a great experience on our anniversary a couple years back. My wife (on her birthday) had the same dining experience. Next time I will stick with the scallops and my wife likes the Low Country Crab Cakes"

  • "Nice place, great food and service and my wife really enjoyed her birthday meal. Travelling throughout the southern states we were lucky enough to be in Memphis for her (significant) birthday and booking Paulette's (by email from the UK) was a good decision. Only down side was that dispite making a request for something a little extra special because it was her birthday we actually got the table nearest the door and next to which everyone had to pass, including wait staff. There was a 'wine tasting' event booked in but I have to say that I was disappointed. Otherwise a great meal..."

  • "Our 2nd visit to Paulette's at the brunch hour on Sunday after church. Menu offers a wonderful change from other dining experiences. Wait staff is very attentive. Food portions are ample but not overwhelming. And the ambiance compliments the taste. My bride of 5 years had an omelet of her creation and I had the sterak and eggs. Mimosa and Cabernet Savignon where good matches. Price, reasonable. Paulette's is upscale but not pretenious. A great place to go when you want a change of pace."

  • "I wanted to take my husband to a romantic dinner in our first time visiting Memphis. ....well, it would've been better to take him somewhere else. The hostess, black hair was so unhappy. While Donna's service was outstanding the popovers where GREASY. I have had the ones in Zodiac in Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour, FL and wanted to have them again. Night and day. We had the squash, no flavor, no salt. I had the salad wedge. I prefer Paula Deens. He had the eggplant... Then we had the cornish hen, it was burnt. No dessert we ran away... I was sad but, at least we learned and moved on."

  • "We were celebrating a special occasion. Could not have picked a better place. Lovely, peaceful evening. Watched beautiful sunset on the river. Hard to decide what to eat, but we both chose crab cakes. Great decision! Perfectly cooked, and the veggie side excellent compliment, One us had leftovers that made a great slider the next day! This is a special jewel in Memphis."

  • "I was there the night of an ice storm and very few people were there. The food is good, but not exceptional. We had very good service but that may have been due the small number of people present. I consider it too expensive for what you get."

  • "The food was outstanding. It was a little pricey, but well worth it. The witress was very helpful and friendly. I will definitely be revisiting this restaurant in the near future."

  • "First time in Harbortown. Didn.t know what to expect. Charming restaurant in a boutique hotel on the Mississippi River. Fresh flowers, professional service and wonderful menu selections. It is not often I have so much trouble deciding what to order! Definitely make reservations just to be on the safe side. you wouldn't want to get over to the island and then not get a table!!"

  • "We generally eat at Paulette's on Monday evening because of the special menu. The portions are just right for us and the price is good. This past Monday seemed a little different. First the popups were not as good as previous trips to the restaurant. The Seafood Chowder was excellent. The beef main dish was good but not up to previous meals. Loved the Key Lime Pie. Lastly we felt the server was very nice but the service seemed a little slower than normal. That said, we will keep coming back."

  • "I hadn't tried the restaurant since moving off Madison to Harbor Town until last Saturday. It is as great as ever. We arrived 10 minutes early, was immediately seated and waited on. The place wasn't loud or crowded. All phases of the meal went smoothly and the food was fantastic. Was worth the drive from Germantown to downtown for the dinner we experienced. We'll do it more regularly and it will be our place of choice for our anniversary dinner so long as we live in or near Memphis. We used the OpenTable iPhone app and it was easy. Paulette's followed up with a confirmation call the day of the reservation. Could not have been easier. Love this place."

  • "The food at Paulettes is consistent and delicious. I love Saturday brunch at Paulettes, the river views are unparalleled and there is something for everyone- and let's not forget the popovers! When my children couldn't find something they wanted on the menu they were happy to cook a filet for my son and prepare some chicken tenders for my other picky eater. My mother-in-law couldn't make a decision from the extensive choices of vegetarian food items. They also do a wonderful and reasonably priced 3 course pre-theater menu on weekends and the best deal in town Lobster night every Wednesday."

  • "Although the entree was very good, the appetizer portions were very small for this Valentine's Day special menu. And the dessert??The menu listed Kahlua Mocha Parfait (which is a signature dessert for this restaurant and was the reason we traveled to Harbor Town for this dinner.) What they served was not Kahlua Mocha Parfait, but a single scoop of coffee ice cream on a coconut cracker square, barely any whipped cream and negligible chocolate shavings. If a restaurant is going to modify a signature dessert for a special menu that NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY STATED! I had been looking forward to this dessert for 2 weeks! To add insult to injury, shortly after the server left our check, we saw another server go by with a full size portion "K-Pie"."

  • "We had a great experience with the wait staff, but not with the hostess. We had reservations @ 5:00 and we were not seated until 5:15 because they "thought they had already seated us". We went for Valentine's Dinner and it was a pre-set menu, no complaints at all everything was delicious. We are definitely going to have to go back to try their regular menu."

  • "We had a great meal last Saturday at Paulette's. They had a special Valentine's Day menu for the weekend, and they did an outstanding job from the timeliness of being seated, to the quality of the dinner. Their lobster bisque appetizer is the best of its kind, steaks were right on the money, and desserts were excellent. Our server was most helpful, and their timing was perfect. We'd definitely recommend Paulettes for a special night out. We'll return often."

  • "You go to Paulette's for a very tender, well prepared filet vs. an entree' with ingredients you'd never think to combine (or maybe have never heard of). Everything is done very well. A dinner at Paulette's is not an adventure, but no one leaves disappointed. If you want to know how good french fries can be, get the pomme frites. We made a mistake ordering wine (thought we asked for a red but it was a white). The server was very gracious in providing another choice."

  • "Reservation for 5:15. We were the first in the restaurant. As soon as the other tables arrived our waitress disappeared. This happens all the time because wait staff ASSUME women won't tip. I waited tables through college and leave a minimum 20-25% tip. But not when I can't get drink refills and have to request the check from the manager an hour and a half later only to be told by her that everyone else in the restaurant is also going to see the performance at the Orpheum that night and we have plenty of time. They haven't been finished with their sub-par meal for 30 minutes."

  • "We had not been to Paulettes since it had moved from Overton Square. We decided to go and were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The setting is very picturesque, much like a quant European hotel/restaurant, the food was excellent and the servers were very attentive without being bothersome. The price of the dinner was not cheap but was worth every penny. Overall very much a new favorite!"

  • "When Paulette's moved from the charm of it's midtown house, I thought it would lose it's character. It did not. It's new (not so new any more) still has the quaint little charm. It's so hard to find restaurant's that are not chain restaurants so if someone is looking for a great restaurant that is not a chain, you can find a jewel with Paulette's. I would not recommend sitting in the back room where larger groups sit if you are not with a group. It does get a little loud and it loses a little of the ambience."

  • "I will not return. I was told our table might not be held if we didn't all appear on time. They were busy , they expected over a hundred people and if we were late they wouldn't be able to turn the table around. They made me upset when there was no reason. This isn't the first time they don't care about the customer"

  • "We went for Sunday breakfast and the food was great, I will go back next time for Brunch. Reservations were for 9:30am. After I reviewed the menu I called and asked would we be able to order from the brunch menu since or reservations were at this time and was told yes. Once we arrived apparently no reservation was needed for breakfast and after we were seated we were only given a choice from the breakfast menu. Bunch did not start until 11."
