A word from Paulette's Restaurant at the River Inn of Harbor Town
Paulette's Restaurant at the AAA 4 Diamond - River Inn of Harbor Town

Paulette's, which has been operating successfully in Memphis for 40 years, recently moved its popular, award winning operation to the River Inn. It has been descibed by one reviewer as "A Memphis institution and for a very good reason". Paulette's is serving the same soups, salads, and entrees that have made it so well known throughout the mid-south for many years. The restaurant has always been famous for its desserts and hot popovers with strawberry butter. Paulette's Executive Chef Todd Clements features his exquisite creations on a daily basis. Paulette's has a distinct warmth, charm and ambiance that is unsurpassed in the city. Restaurant polls have annually recognized Paulette's as Memphis" "Most Romantic" and for it's cuisine - "Best Continental". Renowned local critic, Fredric Koeppel says, "The service is maintained at a consistent level of knowledge, polish, and consideration".Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We celebrated our 40th anniversary at this great restaurant. Fabulous food and great service. Only negative was the eight people sitting next to us who were loud and using vulgar language. Luckily they came in about halfway through our meal and not at the beginning."

  • "We had a lovely dinner for two to celebrate a special occasion. The food was very delicious and beautifully presented. I only wish we had been seated in a more secluded corner instead of a large table in the middle of the room. I would definitely recommend Paulette's for special evenings."

  • "The food was good, but there were mosquitos inside the restaurant which was very annoying. Monday deal is quite a steal though."

  • "I went to Paulette's with a couple of co-workers for dinner and the food and the location are wonderful! I will definetly go back!"

  • "We enjoyed our special dinner at Paulette's very much and will definitely go back. The service, the food, the ambience - everything was lovely. And we especially enjoyed the piano player."

  • "This was a VERY disappointing experience! I have dined at Paulette's many times for a number of years and have enjoyed eating there. This visit was different.. Small parties had to tolerate a noisy party of 12 when there were plenty of options for seating. A bottle of white wine was brought to table unchilled and was never really brought to an acceptable temp. Popovers(one of their signature dishes) were cold and stale, probably left over from noon. Two of our party of four had Grouper for their entrée It was overcook, tough and oily(we should have refused it). Won't be returning."

  • "We stayed at the Harbor Inn while passing through Memphis. We were road weary and didn't want to drive to a restaurant so we divided on Paulette's as it was a short walk away. Glad we did! We both had the seared Tuna special and it was melt in your mouth delicious! The service was top notch. The decor is a bit tired and dated, the low lighting helped.... Breakfast the next morning was delicious too!"

  • "My husband and I try to eat at one very nice restaurant each out of town trip we take. We rely on recommendations, trip advisor, etc. This restaurant had very high ratings. We were very disappointed. The food was just ok. Nothing great. My husband had the filet medium. It arrived over cooked. We should have sent it back but did not. I had the crab and spinach crepes. The crab crepe was dry, I ate about 1/2 and the spinach crepe did not have a good flavor. The only thing exceptional about this evening was the waitress and the fact that we paid $140 for a mediocre meal. We enjoy great food and don't mind paying for it. In this instance, a chain restaurant would have had better food and would have been way less expensive."

  • "The turnover was incredible (bread). The sole was not as good as I hoped it would be."

  • "Have eaten here many times & have always been pleased w/ both food & service. Not so, this time! Inattentive waiter; had to talk w/ host to determine why it took over 30 min for entree to arrive. Was told there was backup in kitchen - no apology given. Portions have decreased in size; no longer serve salad w/ entree; dessert portion much smaller; popovers cold & dried out... prices increased!! Dirty wine glass! Entire wait staff appeared stressed & indifferent. Not sure what has happened, but this is not same restaurant it used to be!"

  • "The Ham Palachinta is the best! I've never found it any place else in Memphis!"

  • "I have happily eaten at Paulette's for 12 years but had not been to the Harbor Town location since it opened. The location and ambiance were lovely; parking was convenient. The service was attentive and discrete. I ordered crab and spinach crepes, my long time favorite. The crab had no taste and was the texture of bits of wet cardboard, while the spinach crepe was very salty. The crepes themselves were heavy and overcooked. Even the pop overs were overcooked and dry. I was most disappointed with a dinner that cost $36.00, including tip."

  • "Recently visited Paulette's for our anniversary. The food and service was great. Everything was reasonably priced. We would defiantly visit again!!!"

  • "Guest came from Wisconsin and had heard about the restaurant from their neighbors, so we celebrated two birthdays. We all ate different entrees and everyone raved about the food, wine, and desserts. Lovely night out!"

  • "This restaurant was recommended by friends and it didn't disappoint. The service was great. We had a funny waitress who seemed to be quite frazzled but she was very polite and attentive. It made for a comical sidelight to our meal. The food was very good. We have been overeating on this trip so I was trying to eat healthy so I didn't try their most decadent delights. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and go back again. We ate early so it was still light out for a short time after dinner and we went for a ride around the island."

  • "I have to come to Memphis once or twice a year to get my eye checked (I have a melanoma on my retina). Accompanied by one of my daughters, we meet friends (a beautiful couple) for lunch there. We wouldn't think of going to Memphis without having lunch at Paulette's. Thank you for wonderful service and fabulous food."

  • "My friends and I went there for lunch on father's day and of course it was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth the time. We got to sit in the lobby right next to the guy on the piano. He was AMAZING!!! The food was great and everyone must try the popover with the strawberry butter."

  • "I have been to Paulette's a few times before, and it has been fine. Elegant atmosphere, pretty good food and service. However, I would not recommend it when it is crowded on a Sunday, especially Father's Day. Food was mediocre at best, and some of it was inedible (steak full of fat and gristle). Service was slow, orders were incorrect, wait staff seemed stressed and harried. Best to go when it's not crowded."

  • "Paulette's always serves great food with great service. We had a great time eating the wonderful filet Paulette and their signature popovers. Even though I had a reservation, we still waited about 45 for a table. There was some confusion about the seating. Anyways, it worked out fine! We all left happy and very full."

  • "Paulette's is always a great venue for a date night away from the kids. The food is top notch, service is exceptional, and the ambience and view set the stage for a romantic evening."

  • "The food was expertly prepared, plated well, and the service was very personal. We have some special needs and these were met fully and without fanfare. The establishment is out of the downtown area, but worth the effort. The trout was excellent and the green beans as a side was something I would like to cook myself. We ate here 1 year ago on the Monday night special and had good food and a good time. That evening the noise level was high due to every table being full. Today with the restaurant about 1/3 full it was quiet, pleasant, and relaxed. "

  • "There were 3 choices. Maybe we could have made a better choice - got the beef tips. Nothing special. However, the Key Lime Pie was outstanding. The ambience is outstanding. Maybe Paulette's will bring the food up to that comparison. We will try again - maybe. "

  • "Friends and I met to enjoy the three course Monday night special. Great food for a great price. Trout was perfectly cooked and house-made sorbet was a perfect end to the meal."

  • "The Ambiance at Paulette's is fabulous, and the service is impeccable. However the fried green tomato appetizer was served burnt, not to mention that the promised goat cheese was almost nonexistent. (Also, breading-to-tomato ratio was WAY off!) The grouper was so incredibly bland it could've at least use some salt. Have forgotten the name of the "ice cream pie", but then again it was a forgettable dessert; rather blasé. Beautiful atmosphere and great service though!"

  • "Unfortunately, my previous experiences have all been quite pleasant; however, this most recent experience was far less superior. The service from being seated by the host to being dismissed by our server was totally on the low end of the scale. Our menu selections (I guess we should have opted for the Monday night specials after all.) were bland and required table multiple sprinkles of salt & pepper. I'm not sure why, but we had to wait at least 16 minutes to place our order and there were only six (6) tables occupied at the time when we arrived. Our server NEVER apologized for our wait; in fact, he seemed bothered that he had to serve us from beginning to dismissal!"

  • "Took out of town guests to Paulette's to cap a great weekend. Food was excellent. Service a little sluggish at first, but things got straightened out. Overall, great experience and one more good impression of Memphis for our guests. "

  • "Second time I have ordered fish. First time it was too fishy and the second the cook left it in the oven too long. Very dry but not fishy tasting. If the chef attended any type of cooking school I think he slept in the morning that fish cooking was taught."

  • "My husband and I went to Paulette's to celebrate my birthday. We both enjoy cooking and could be considered "foodies." The food was classically prepared and delicious. The service was friendly, knowledgable, and efficient. The atmosphere was quiet with a great view of the river...A perfect experience for a quiet celebration and good conversation. Well done, Paulette's."

  • "So a special $19.99 Monday menu. Very tasty, quite basic smaller portions but good. Waiter was friendly and informative. Nice setting and atmosphere. "

  • "My wife and I were married two years ago in the adjoining hotel and we went back for our anniversary. We were seated on time and greeted by the wait staff with "Happy Anniversary" plus the evening menu was printed especially for us with another "Happy Anniversary Dr. and Mrs. Markham" printed at the top. The place is really special with the best of service and the food is definitely 5-star. The view of the Mississippi River really adds to the ambiance."
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "Took clients to Paulette's. Service was very slow, despite the restaurant being practically empty. They were late sitting us down and then took 5 minutes before they even filled water glasses. Slow service throughout the meal. Food is good, but there are too many options downtown Memphis to allow for such poor service."

  • "The food, atmosphere, and staff were awesome! A must-visit with in Memphis, and out on Mud Island."

  • "The food was delightful as always. The waitress should retire quietly. "

  • "I was not impressed with Paulette's. While I am sure there may be some really great dishes on the menu, my wife and I did not have one of those. My wife ordered the filet Paulette expecting it to be a reliably good meal. I ordered a pork ribeye special which had gorgonzola starch (it was so forgettable that I forgot if it was potatoes or polenta). The filet paulette was a new preparation. Gone was the classic French sauce. Now it had a weak jus that actually made the taste worse. My pork dish was just boring and one note. I don't know if the chef is trying to innovate on classic French, and only making boring yet competently prepared dishes OR if the chef is just not good at classic French preparations. A middle ground mediocre meal. "
