Diner Reviews
  • "We saw this recommended, and while it was a bit of a cab ride from our Midtown hotel, it was very worth it. We love craft brews and also German beers, and this didn't disappoint. Fresh-brewed Paulaner in NYC--didn't even know it existed. Food slightly overpriced, but hey it's New York, and was fantastic quality. The only downside was slightly slow service, and the fact that, despite a 930 Friday night reservation, the place was already starting to clear out--we expected it to be busier, especially for a place that is built around the beer. We loved it though, and recommend it highly!"

  • "The best German food since being in Germany! Friendly service and perfect decor for a beer house."

  • "I typically don't drink beer but the beer here is amazing. So fresh! I definitely steer away from drinking beer with my food because I usually get too full but for some reason I don't get full here. Surprisingly they have some great cocktails too- beer cocktails and the raspberry spritzer was so good! The food here is unexpectedly light for Bavarian cuisine and I was impressed that this beer place serves such high quality food. I highly recommend the beef tartare, weisswurst and bratwurst. The spatzle with summer vegetables was very tasty as well. This is a great place for large groups. Probably a family friendly place for weekend brunches."

  • "Attended Bayern Munich event and had a blast. Great beer, great service, great Getman food. The staff organized the event well and ensured that we had fantastic seats. I will definitely come back!"

  • "Yes you can buy real bier here! The Lager was excellent but the Marzen was simply awesome. Great weisswurst."

  • "Nice ambiance but background music was too loud. Appealing menu but the bread dumpling with chanterelles was a disappointment. Wiener Schnitzel and dessert perfect. Attractive and welcome new eatery."

  • "Until now Zum Schneider has been my favorite German restaurant in New York City, but I am very impressed with Paulaner - will be coming back every time I have a group! They are very accommodating, there is plenty of space for a group (particularly if others join you later), and unlike Zum Schneider, you can make reservations and pay with card!!!"

  • "I just like to feed my German stomach here. It tastes like it does in Munich. The Weizenbier is great and the Suaerkraut, Spaetzle, Mustard and Pork is great!!!!"

  • "I don't know if he was the owner. It's summer and we went to watch world cup 2014 to support Germany. I came with my son (6yrs old), husband and friends total 6 people. Not to mention that i'm also pregnant so my husband brings a bottle of water for me. Just when we were sitting, an older guy came up to us and scolded my husband for bringing the water! These are his words "You cannot drink this water, this is not allowed. I invested so much on this restaurant and you cannot drink this". My husband said we just came and we won't drink that, we use it for outside! If we were not just going to watch the world cup we would have just WALKED OUT!!!! ARROGANT OLD GUY... I DON'T KNOW IF HE WAS THE OWNER BUT THE WAY HE TALKED, HE WAS THE OWNER!!!!"

  • "The restaurant looks like a very old bavarian brauhaus - lots of patina and german Gemütlichkeit. The food is great (you definetly have to eat a dessert) and the beer is outstanding. I talked to the brewmaster (Andreas) who explained me the entire brewing process which is all done in the restaurant. I love the community tables!"
