A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Westlake Village
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

Way too noisy for conversation, perhaps because it was Saturday night. I ordered a burger based on many reviews on sites such as Yelp, but it was nothing to get excited about. My friends shared a steak dinner that appeared to be nicely prepared, but it had been ordered medium rare. The kitchen did separate the one dinner onto two plates, but one of them was medium rare, the other was overcooked.

Frederick was our server and made us feel really well-cared for. Checked on us often but not too often. Was proactive in offering selections as well as his personal favorites. First time at this restaurant. Definitely looking forward to #2 and more. We had the calamari (crispy, lightly breaded - perfect) fish tacos (wonderful salmon version), the short ribs (tender meat fell off the bone) and finished with a pear/berry crumb dessert. Insanely delicious. Lots of flavor in everything.

This is a fabulous restaurant located in an easy to access spot. Paul Martin's is always noisy though, and lunch was no exception. It's a fabulous place to come for a special occasion, but I feel you should be forewarned that it is exceptionally loud. There are a couple of booths in the very back that seem to be a bit quieter if you are looking for a romantic table. We have celebrated many special events at the WLV Paul Martin's and at the one in Roseville, CA where we used to live. I highly recommend it and my friend enjoyed her Birthday lunch.

Had a dinner for my wife here for her birthday, the food was all delicious except I didn't care for the mushroom soup, but it was probably just my palette, the "cream based" broth was too watery for me, and I know this is gonna sound lame, but the mushrooms were a bit too chunky. Oh well everything was fantastic and they even have a verbal kids menu that took care of our 4 year old twin boys no problem (cheeseburger sliders for one and e other got linguine pasta with butter and cheese)

Using the reservation system was great. I reserved a table for 4 for 7:30pm on a Saturday night. They walked us right to a table. No waiting. The place was packed but within 10 minutes we saw a booth open up so we asked to be moved. They moved us - no problem. 7 oz wine pours were very generous (almost 2 glasses worth for $12) and I was able to taste two types of wine before ordering. I made the mistake of ordering the cheapest meal on the menu. A burger. It was one of the worst burgers I have ever had. Bread was rubbery. The restaraunt is known for making EVERYTHING from scratch, but I think they put my burger in a microwave) sauces were just okay and the burger was gloppy, messy and hard to bite into. My party enjoyed the short ribs and the shrimp linguini, but everyone thought our meal was over priced. We will not go back.

After we had arrived my phone rang to ask if I was still coming. My party was seated 10min prior. Our waiter was clearly overwhelmed with the 4 tables he had. Both of our orders were wrong. The burger was so greasy it was not etiable the bun was soaked in greas. Our waiter was no where to be found that after 20min we asked for the check and left. He never asked if anything was wrong. Clearly there was an issue when 75% of our meal was still there. When we left we found all the staff hanging out in the main dining room chatting. We will not be back until the restaurant can get their act together.

Paul Martin has a great Monday deal, Two people - $50 - Two entrees - Two salads - Dessert - Bottle of wine. Awesome deal, Terrific food , nice wine and great service. And then there was dessert...The dessert was a burned smores type dessert that had an awful smoky taste and ruined the meal. It was the universal opinion of our whole table that it should be removed from the food selection list. Don't let a bad tasting dessert be the last thing the patrons eat!!!

Had a business dinner for eight, and the service could not have been better. They moved us to a very nice, larger table when we didn't want to be quite so "cozy". They let my client try 3 types of wine before picking. And they quickly attended to one of the guests who arrived an hour late. Plus a menu selection for everyone. Perfect.

  • Not my best experience here
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

Restaurant was extremely cold, which impacted the experience....should have been cozier this time of year. My wine glass had a crack in it so the manager was great in replacing. My husband's steak though, was way under-cooked and when we asked them to cook longer, they said it would take just a few minutes. 20 minutes later, when we asked (I had long finished eating), they said they were cooking a new one. It came out with cuts throughout it. I have never been to a restaurant that cuts steak up like that. He then ate the steak, but it was weird as he was eating that one piece of meal on his own. The manager gave a small discount, but overall, it made for a rough restaurant experience. Bill was still high.

I changed from my usual entree to try something new .. I ordered blackened ribeye well and it really was not as flavorful as I would suspect from the title and was charred to the point of ashy . Also switched side from masked to roasted cauliflower but they were really not cooked enough ... Usually it's boiled then roasted to achieve a soft bite with high flavor but these were still quite tough and so I was afraid to eat them that they may cause me stomach issues as they often due with too raw. Should have stuck to my hanger steak tried and true!

The food is good but not very good in the way of choices. The menu is limited, it is what they call a fall and winter menu. It is the same menu I had last year during the fall and winter. It would be nice if there was a little more variety. Maybe some evening specials perhaps....Just a thought.

This is only our second visit. The first time has to have been good or we wouldn't have gone back. This time, however, it wasn't as good. We went for our sons birthday celebration and he is a particular fan of steak. We ordered a dish of calamari to share. We found it to be a bit too oily. We had to ask for bread. My salmon wasn't particulary well seasoned, it does have bacon on it so you would imagine that would give a saltiness to the fish, it didn't, I had it last time and it was perfect. My son ordered ribeye, a quite expensive plate, he did ask for medium well, when he started the steak it was perfect however as he got about two thirds of the way through it became dry. A $37 steak should not be unevenly cooked.

We hope they continue the level of service and quality as this is now our 'go to' place for a nice evening dinner or a special occasion. We also love their happy hour out on the patio on these nice summer evenings. A great place for a group of friends for a fun time.

I have been a patron of your restaurant many times and was disappointed in the quality of my meal. The prime rib I ordered was tough and very chewy. I left a good portion on my plate. I also ordered the Brussels sprout dish which smelled funny and did not taste right at all. I did send the dish back and got credited on my bill. My wife also ordered the prime rib and made the same observation about the toughness of the meat. I have to admit that I was surprised at the food's poor quality as I have always been pleased during my prior visits to your restaurant.

Server was pleasant...I ordered Ribeye medium well and it came more medium rare...I am not one to hassle so I tried it as it was served...the meat was red and tough/chewy and had large amounts of fat...mashed potatos were great...I expected more marbel mix quality meat cooked to order. I am normally pleased with P.M. meals, their ribs, French dip, salads and burger are great which made me want to try more...could have been that batch of meat and/or training chef... I don't know. I'll stick to what I know, for now.

We have eaten here before and the food is always great. But the service was lacking on this occasion. Our food came very quickly, but our drinks were not refilled until the waiter brought out the check and I specifically asked for refills. When the kitchen brought our dessert, we did not have utensils. After several minutes of staring at our ice cream, I asked the hostess.

My hubs offered to meet in my office locale to try something new. Knowing his preference for fish and grill, I made an Open Table Rez at Paul Martin. My selection and surprise choice did not disappoint. Instead of in a booth, we opted to sit on high bar chairs at the long table in the inviting bar area, where we could have a vantage point to huddle together, gaze around and catch a couple glimpses of the sports on the non-intrusive tv screens. Starting with the cocktails, appetizers and the delicious grilled fish dinners and sinfulicious desserts to top it off, we had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner, and resolved to come back during the day for a weekend brunch or very early dinner to enjoy another dining experience in daylight .
