With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. The restaurant noise level is a bit loud but they keep the outdoor area warm. They take reservations and they graciously served a choice dessert on birthdays, not a crappy dessert. It's not a knock your socks off experience but it feels a bit like walking into mad men episode"

  • "I have had dinner here a few times, but this was my first time for lunch. The lunch menu was great, and well rice too! Our waiter was Wonderful!! One of the best we had there. It was a gorgeous day so we ate on the patio. We sat for awhile and were never bothered to leave, and we all enjoyed our meals!"

Generally long periods of time in between seeing our server. Since we had a sitter, we needed to get back more quickly. Wish we had time to linger."

Service was not attentive and careless, steak was overlooked and food was under-seasoned. Go to 805 public school or the grill or maestros instead."

"Sure, we can do that for you ". And as she said, perfectly done and well presented. They have a complete menu. And I shall return a fourth time to enjoy many of their many delicious selections."

  • "Our reservation was late on a Friday but the restaurant portion was still busy. Bar was very busy. Very, very noisy probably due to the concrete floors. I don't mind noisy but the acoustics were such that we could not hear each other. We were at a table but it is probable that the booths are slightly quieter. Food was good but not notable. Menu was small but does have a variety of stuff. Wine list was good. Service was good but were slow to get our food."

  • "My husband and I had a really delicious dinner at Paul Martins. We had a great time. The only negative was that our waiter was talking incessantly to the people behind us, and he was very loud. He should have been checking on tables instead. Overall, though, we love this restaurant!"

  • "Server was efficient and helpful. The artichoke was very moist, some may not like it. My friend and I shared it , it was delicious! I love short ribs, the sauce was very tasty but unfortunately I found the meat tasting a bit off, not sure why. They gladly substituted something else I wanted to order , the skirt steak. The steak was very tasty, cooked as I ordered it. Manager came over. They definitely showed they cared about my satisfaction. I saw on the bill that a charge was added to substitute spinach for sweet potatoes. First, I was not told that, this is a must in restaurant etiquette in my opinion. Secondly they left the spinnach tips on, I defintely did not care for that. The restaurant was attractive. I probably would return."

The steak that the other couple had did come with some small side dishes included. Additionally, we bought a shrimp cocktail bowl and the shrimp was meeley; we should have sent it back for what was charged. Service was excellent and restaurant is beautiful, but would have to think twice before returning when there are so many other good choices in the area."

  • "The food, as always, was excellent. The restaurant was absolutely packed and the noise level was quite loud. Service was slow at best. We had one main server, but he seemed to be everywhere at once. The runners/table clearers were much more responsive than the wait staff. This is also the second time in a row our assigned waiter seemed less than engaged in their tables. We were a fun group of 4, out to have a good time, but our waiter struggled to connect over the course of our meal. We will try again as the food is excellent, but may not recommend as often if the service continues to suffer."

  • "Have had inconsistent experiences at this Paul Martin's since their opening but I have to honestly say last night was perfect! Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their dinner and drinks. The brick chicken, NY strip steak and Skirt steak were perfectly prepared. Love, love love the banana cream pie! The service was perfect which has been our ongoing issue with this restaurant.   • "I loved the urban feel with a lively bar and relaxing yet vibrant dining room. The calamari was the best and I recommend the kale ceasar salad with anchovies. The steaks and salmon are reasonably priced and the quality and taste are equal to more expensive venues. This is a great restaurant for a casual dinner or a celebration, and appeals to all age groups. I would definitely go back!"

  • "Just learned of this restaurant in Westlake Village and have now been there 3 times. Once for lunch, and twice for dinner. Enjoyed it each time, as did the friends I was with. Interesting combinations in the menu. Nice, fresh veggies. Their Chocolate cake is wonderful."

  • "We went for the Sunday prime rib special. Took a long time for someone to come and take our order. Almost called the front desk to ask them to send someone over. After we ordered, the food did come in a timely matter, but that might have been because we ordered the special. The green salad came first, no bread, nothing. Then when the prime rib and mashed potatoes came, there was no vegetable. A small plate with 3 half slices of cold bread came then for the table. Not impressed. The homemade ice cream was delicious but not the shortbread. I have been here twice for dinner, mediocre service. And then I have here twice for lunch, great service. Perhaps the waitress was slammed with too many tables at once."

  • "I've been to other Paul Martin's before but wanted to try out their new location in Westlake Village. I took my mom to dinner there this past weekend and we were thrilled. We ordered a few items to split and the kitchen divided each dish prior to serving us. The waitress was very on top of things but without getting in the way of conversation. Overall, I was very impressed with their food, service and the ambiance. What a great addition to the Westlake Promenade!"

  • "My husband ordered the prime rib special which included soup, entrée and ice cream. I ordered the cedar plank salmon. The prime rib came out cold but medium rare. We sent it back. The same piece came back reheated or whatever, but no longer medium rare. Sent it back. Changed the order to a short rib that came out long after I had finished my dinner. The manager then comes over and says I'll comp you the salad and ice cream. Big deal. In spite of this, the waitress was great. She was much better than the manager, but it was out of her control. Anyway, this is the second bad experience we have had there. Don't plan on going back anytime soon."

Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu options and didn't hesitate to make recommendations. He was attentive without ever being intrusive. Even the hostess was gracious as was the busboy. I will definitely be going back to Paul Martin's and trying other items on the menu."
