A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Westlake Village
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

  • It was better the first time

This is only our second visit. The first time has to have been good or we wouldn't have gone back. This time, however, it wasn't as good. We went for our sons birthday celebration and he is a particular fan of steak. We ordered a dish of calamari to share. We found it to be a bit too oily. We had to ask for bread. My salmon wasn't particulary well seasoned, it does have bacon on it so you would imagine that would give a saltiness to the fish, it didn't, I had it last time and it was perfect. My son ordered ribeye, a quite expensive plate, he did ask for medium well, when he started the steak it was perfect however as he got about two thirds of the way through it became dry. A $37 steak should not be unevenly cooked.

We love Paul Martin's. We went for the 2nd time this month and the service (Ginger and Sharon are fantastic!!) and food were excellent. Everything was made to order and absolute perfection. We hope they continue the level of service and quality as this is now our 'go to' place for a nice evening dinner or a special occasion. We also love their happy hour out on the patio on these nice summer evenings. A great place for a group of friends for a fun time.

I have been a patron of your restaurant many times and was disappointed in the quality of my meal. The prime rib I ordered was tough and very chewy. I left a good portion on my plate. I also ordered the Brussels sprout dish which smelled funny and did not taste right at all. I did send the dish back and got credited on my bill. My wife also ordered the prime rib and made the same observation about the toughness of the meat. I have to admit that I was surprised at the food's poor quality as I have always been pleased during my prior visits to your restaurant.

Server was pleasant...I ordered Ribeye medium well and it came more medium rare...I am not one to hassle so I tried it as it was served...the meat was red and tough/chewy and had large amounts of fat...mashed potatos were great...I expected more marbel mix quality meat cooked to order. I am normally pleased with P.M. meals, their ribs, French dip, salads and burger are great which made me want to try more...could have been that batch of meat and/or training chef... I don't know. I'll stick to what I know, for now.

When ever I am in town I show up here for their Monday evening. Dinner for two and a bottle of wine for $50.00 is a great value. Joselyn was our server and she is a true super star. Smart, congenial, knowledgeable and a woman that represents herself and Paul Martin's quite well.

Menu selection was more than acceptable since it changes with the season. Wine list complimented the menu selections. Presentation very good. Not sure why rock music was being played in the dining room? Rock music may be appropriate in bar and patio areas but a bit annoying for a dining room. Our server Sharon was outstanding!

Took my friend there on Friday around 7:00. It was her first time and she loved it ! We sat in the bar area which tends to be a little noisy but we went to meet people and have good food. Food was very good (as usual) and our server was very helpful in our wine selection. We ended up staying at the bar after we ate and our bartender Jessica was great ! She makes an excellent espresso martini ! Thanks for a fun evening !!

We have eaten here before and the food is always great. But the service was lacking on this occasion. Our food came very quickly, but our drinks were not refilled until the waiter brought out the check and I specifically asked for refills. When the kitchen brought our dessert, we did not have utensils. After several minutes of staring at our ice cream, I asked the hostess.

My hubs offered to meet in my office locale to try something new. Knowing his preference for fish and grill, I made an Open Table Rez at Paul Martin. My selection and surprise choice did not disappoint. Instead of in a booth, we opted to sit on high bar chairs at the long table in the inviting bar area, where we could have a vantage point to huddle together, gaze around and catch a couple glimpses of the sports on the non-intrusive tv screens. Starting with the cocktails, appetizers and the delicious grilled fish dinners and sinfulicious desserts to top it off, we had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner, and resolved to come back during the day for a weekend brunch or very early dinner to enjoy another dining experience in daylight .

They claim to be locally sourced food experience but it's just not the case. The staff had no knowledge of where the food was sourced. They claim to buy from local farms which seemed about 10% true. I loved the intention but it's pretty obvious they are playing on most people's ignorance when it comes to terms like "local", "sustainable", "natural","free range" etc. If you want a decent meal then great if you want a true conscious farm to table experience then never go here. It's unfortunately a lie.

So I forgot that I ordered short ribs the first time and sent them back for being too salty. So this time I just ate my food and it was still too salty for me! The meat was very tender though. The big disappointment was the vegetables, nothing of substance, some type vegetable reddish looked like celery, that dominated the vegetables. When I substitute potatoes for vegetables, I want vegetables, I barely could find the cauliflower in the mix! Server was great, let us sample wines before ordering. My friend had a steak salad and my other friend had the polenta, they both enjoyed their dishes. I will go again but this time I will ask if they can serve veggies, like spinach, asparagus etc

My husband and I made a reservation for 7pm on a Sunday evening. While we were seated right away, it took a while for the waiter to come to our table. Once we ordered a drink, we had water glasses that had been empty for quite a while, with no one coming around to check . It took upwards of 15 mins to get our drinks. We ordered our food which was good but too pricey for what we got. Not even a vegetable offered with my chicken dinner. I don't think we will be back.

Loved my meal skirt steak and arugula tomato salad. It's not a big portion in fact it's very small and looks more like an appetizer. I didn't mind that though since we got an appetizer spinach dip which was delicious. I asked to leave out sundried tomatoes. We got the banana cream pie for dessert which was also delicious. They have great happy hour deals $5 glasses of wine until 8pm or other drink options. My first time here and I would totally recommend it.

The server took our drink and dinner order in a timely manner. The drinks arrived and about 45 min. later, the server asked us if we were ready to order dinner. When we told her we ordered dinner with our drinks, she looked shocked, didn't remember a thing. About 15 min. later, dinner arrived but it was an hour waiting for it altogether. She blamed it on the kitchen and a power outage, which we were dubious about, and gave my husband a free glass of wine. When she went to pick up our plates, she dropped one or two on the floor right behind my chair, no apology, no discussion of it. There were broken plates under another table from a different incident that were never picked up. Very dangerous and no attention to detail.

Our anniversary was well spent at Paul Martin's. The booking got us a prime seat in a booth even though there were two other couples in front of us. Our server Matt was well informed and attentive, not too pushy but helpful in our decisions with wine. We like how the wine list is listed in an order from lighter to more bold varieties. Our dishes came on time and tasted like advertised, we had the plank grilled salmon and skirt steak, both cooked to perfection. Well worth the money. Finally desert and espresso were both exceptional. Most often chocolate cake is too sweet, but the gnache they served was a slice of chocolate heaven. Not to mention they were nice enough to comp it since it was our anniversary.

Maybe it's because Chili's used to be in this building that we had never gotten around to trying Paul Martin's. We finally decided to give it a try on a mid-week date night and had a wonderful dining experience. Everything was fresh and delicious. The decor is very modern and service was always attentive. I rated the noise level as "Energetic" because we were seated next to the bar, but the noise level did taper off as the evening went on. My only complaint (and it's a very, very minor one) was that the service was a bit too attentive at times. It's nice for the staff to ask how things are going, but when they're asking too frequently it can interrupt conversations and become intrusive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
