With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes.   • "The food was good. I had the Kale Salad w/Anchovies, and the Cedar Plank Salmon, which was cooked exactly to my specifications. The Salmon Entrée, was a bit too small of a portion for the price however. I'm a big "foodie", and I dine all over town. Will try something different next time around, as I will be back again. Taber, was a wonderful wait person! Great attitude."

We had a bad, high traffic table near 2 doors that gave us bursts of HOT PHOENIX air every few minutes. And the service went from bad to worse as if we became invisible."

The nibbles along with Arnold Palmers made the wait time for our tasty salad entrees very short. Refills were provided without prompting the server. We had previously been to Paul Martin's on a Monday evening for the special wine dinner that was very good too."

  • "We went for a birthday lunch and it couldn't have been nicer. The house smoked salmon salad is soooo delicious, smokey flavor and not over salty, fresh greens with fresh dill and a house made buttermilk dressing. The server was attentive and there when needed. The nice surprise is on your birthday, you get to choose a complimentary dessert. Nice touch that not everyone does these days."

  • "This was my first visit to Paul Martin's and will definitely NOT be my last. My group went in for a drink and a light dinner. We found the Tastings Menu to be wonderful for this purpose. The draft beer , wine, and food selections were all very nice. The Tastings Menu had something for everyone. I had the burger, fries and beer special - a tremendous value. It was a hot day, so this high quality, properly cooked burger, and cold craft beer, really hit the spot! The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. I can't wait to return to try the other menu items. The decor and ambiance were upscale and very attractive. When the weather cools, I look forward to sitting on the warm & inviting outdoor patio."

  • "VERY UPSET-- They had 4 DEMERITS in the newspaper for HEALTH violations. I saw it AFTER we came home. We would NEVER have gone there if I read it BEFORE we went there. THERE can be NO excuses for 4 (maybe 1 or 2). Martins is outstanding BUT it should have NO health violations."

  • "First time here, Loved that I could make a reservation on line. Very convenient, table was ready when my party arrived. The service was friendly but the place did not smell good when walking in. We were seated immediately , we requested a booth and hostess gladly seated us. We were served bread , the edges seemed a bit burnt so was not 100% happy with the flavor. The calamari was amazing! The burgers were good, but pricey,presentation was nice. The tomato soup I ordered was $9 for small bowl, a bit expensive I think for the serving size. The waiter Taylor was very friendly, had a sweet sense of humor, the servers were all friendly. It was my birthday, they brought me a huge piece of ganache choc. cake we all shared it... rich. =)"

  • "Visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere was nice and the noise level was perfect. Too often we are yelling over one another to be heard, but that was not the case at Paul Martin's. One of our guests misunderstood the description of one of the menu items and, consequently, ended up with something that they could not eat for dietary reasons. The waitress immediately removed the item and ordered a replacement and the manager came over to apologize. It was not even their mistake! That is the kind of service I expect, but is lacking at so many restaurants now."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful and welcoming. Service was slow although the waiter was friendly and apologetic. Food was good but not outstanding or noteworthy for the price. Wines were way overpriced. It was a busy Saturday night and the restaurant had only been opened a few days, so maybe there needs to be more tweaking and things will improve. The waiter really put the "sell" on for their daily "Happy Hour", and that may be a more affordable way to try out the restaurant in the future. I haven't given up on it...but probably won't treat it as a "fine dining" destination."

  • "This was our first visit to Paul Martin's American Grill. We received a coupon in the mail and took advantage of it. Smart marketing got me and many other people I know to try this restaurant for the first time. I am so happy this restaurant has come to Scottsdale. The food was excellent. There were four of us in our party and we all ordered different entrees. We all loved everything about our meals. The food was fresh and wholesome. It was prepared perfectly and had a lovely presentation. I love salmon but often find it hard to find good salmon cooked all the way through without being dry. This salmon was perfect. It was moist and flavorful. The service was great and the entire evening was very enjoyable."

  • "The service was terrible!!! The waiter made a mistake with my order, not once but twice. I ordered the steak Cobb salad...with no blue cheese and mozzarella instead and vinaigrette on the side. He brought the salad, blue cheese was on the salad and blue cheese dressing wasn on the side. Sent it back. The second salad had feta cheese. We were entertaining and I didn't want to send it back again. The waiter also tried taking plates while we were still eating. Had to ask for bread. No customer service at all...just felt like he could have cared less about his diners. The noise level was beyond high. The table for four was so tight and filled with glasses and plates and that wasn't comfortable. Very disappointing for a first visit..."

Our waiter immediately tried to pad our bill by pushing appetizers - he suggested the cheese/meat board for 4. Seriously, that would have been a ridiculous amount of food. Then, when my husband ordered a salad and a starter for his meal, the waiter was a bit obnoxious about how few shrimp there were in the starter he ordered. He spilled my wine, spilled my husband's wine. Miscellaneous runners and kept bringing us glasses of wine we didn't order. My chicken was way over done. Overall, just average. Unlikely that we'll go back."

  • "It was our first time trying this restaurant and we made a reservation for 8pm. We didn't get seated until 8:30, but the staff was incredible about being attentive to our wait. They got us cocktails and comped them due to the wait, which I thought was evidence of good service. Our server, Morgan, was wonderful, overall amazing service by everyone we encountered! The food was just good, not great. I would go back b/c of the service. I did learn that they have a killer happy hour that lasts until 7pm, so I will surely be back to try that."

  • "My husband and I were happy to find Paul Martin's as a new dining option in Scottsdale. We enjoyed the outdoor space school was very comfortable even on a 100plus day. A wide-ranging menu and our food was prepared nicely. They seemed to be a bit under-staffed so our dinner took a bit longer than anticipated we enjoyed the evening and never felt neglected. We'll definitely return."
