A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Roseville
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

While the menu sounded very promising, the food that came out was just kind of ordinary -- not bad but "nothing to write home about". And the service was just about the same. The waiter tried to be interesting but could not be found readily sometimes when we needed more water or something else. The place is attractive and could maybe be a very good restaurant if someone brings some sharp ideas to it along with focused servers.

We came here for our 15th anniversary. The food was delicious! My husband was amazed how tasty his Caesar salad was! He also loved his Skirt Steak (though, the portion size was a little too small), and I enjoyed my Plank Salmon. With desert and no drinks, we spent 98$ for just the two of us. However, the food and the service were well worth it!

We were seated early from our reservation time. Service was above excellent. Food was out standing, we had the kale salad and roasted corn soup to start. I had the short rib with mashed potatoes..my wife enjoyed a double thick pork chop. Both were prepared perfect. He had a super smooth bottle of red wine..dessert was 3 layer chocolate cake and a glass of myers port. Will return soon..

Yes, all fives! Upon arriving we were greeted with "happy birthday" and immediately seated in a circular booth. The extensive wine list offered a perfect 2012 DUCKHORN chardonnay to accompany my just right grilled salmon steak with its bulgar wheat and arugula, spinach, asperegras salad beneath the salmon steak. My husband's creamy corn soup as well as his entry were delightful, as was my slice of dark, dark chocolate cake and its accompanying "happy birthday!" To our serendipitous surprise, we learned that the lady in the booth next to ours was also celebrating a birthday; she and I laughed and did our "high five" to complete a wonderful and unusual birthday lunch.

We went for our anniversary. Our server, Nick, was exceptional; always giving us what we wanted without being too forward. The tomato and burreta salad was just OK—the tomatoes were not flavorful. The chimmichurri steak was tough and full of gristle, and the chimmichurri was flavorless. The corn soup and brick chicken needed salt but were otherwise tasty; in contrast, the mashed potatoes and french fries had too much salt (the fries had so much salt they were inedible). The banana cream pie was terrific and was a good end to a disappointing dinner (and saved this review from a one-star for the food). The food was too expensive to be this mediocre.

I took my sister-in-law for a birthday dinner and we enjoyed the excellent Monday Night Wine Dinner for Two. It includded a salad, our choice of entrees and a bottle of wine from a selected list--all for $49! The cedar planck salmon was absolutely delicious and our Wente chardonnay was a fine accompaniment. It was a great meal and a real bargain too. Our server was most attentive and pleasant. All in all a great evening! Marinelle Thompson

Ten of us went to celebrate my husbands birthday, what a great night! Service was fantastic, always there when wanted but did not "hover." We wanted to relax, have drinks and appetizers, then order dinner, and take our time, and it was perfect. We were not rushed, nor did anyone look around wondering "where is our food?" I had read other comments about slow service etc, but, this restaurant does not claim to be a fast food place. If you are in a time crunch, go elsewhere and come back when you have a bit more time, because it's worth it!

We went to Paul Martin's intending to use the $25 off a $50 purchase email we had received for Labor Day. When we looked at the menu, we discovered their Monday wine dinner for 2! For $49 we had 2 organic green salads, 2 entrees, and a bottle of wine that normally would have been $58!!! I had braised short ribs, which was absolutely delicious, and my husband had the chimichurri steak, which, although a little rare for the medium he asked for, was also good. We also both had dessert and coffee, which brought our total bill to a little over $80. We felt badly for our waiter, who had given us great service, because he deserved to be tipped on what our bill should have been, so we gave him 25%. We'll be back next Monday!!!

This night was our 30th wedding anniversary. We arrived on-time and this Monday was active but not busy. The bar was not busy, many of the tables were open and we were seated on arrival. We placed an order for an appetizer, it came and that's when the bottom fell out. We waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive, the waitress avoided us, a second waiter said he would check with the kitchen and did not return, finally a manager came out apologized and acknowledged that our evening was ruined. The food finally came, they comp'd our meal, but the damage was done, they even delayed for 15 minutes the dessert. Strawberry shortcake does not take that long to prepare. We both work and had to rush the remainder or our evening. Bad Taste!

Food here is great! Fresh and straightforward. However, it took over 2 hours to have dinner on a recent Saturday night. Made an Open Table reservation for 7 and when we arrived, we still waited in the 'line' with drop ins. I asked at the desk why that was and didn't really receive an answer other than 'we had a big party ahead of you' which didn't make sense at all. Our waiter was very good, but it took FOREVER to get our drinks, our food, etc - which I think was due to back ups at the bar and kitchen. I'd definitely go back, but I hope they get some of these issues cleared up.

After a wonderful dining experience at the Paul Martin's Roseville location, we were thrilled to learn they also have a restaurant in Mountain View, very close to home. One member of our party had the braised beef shortribs, they were to die for and I was tempted to order them for dessert. I had the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly and delicious. We also experienced the planked salmon. Another choice to recommend. They had a live combo on the patio outside their entrance. This might have resulted in an excessively noisy experience except that we were seated on the far side of the restaurant from the entrance so all we experienced was pleasant background music.

We were seated in a booth adjacent to a long, large-group table. Its occupants continually jostled their chairs, and the chairs (lacking nylon scuff-pads) made shrieking sounds like fingernails on a blackboard. (Yes, I know I'm dating myself.) Some guests seemed to enjoy the effect, as even other guests at their table grimaced repeatedly. The restaurant could easily fix this with a few dollars of chair pads. Attention to such details--on something so apparent to everyone within 30 feet from the table--makes me wonder what else the restaurant is skimping on. We'll be back, but it ruined my wife's birthday dinner.

This restaurant has a lively bar scene and the food and service are always good. This is consistent with their El Segundo location in Southern California. However, compared to similar restaurants in the area as well as downtown Sacramento the overall price especially for alcohol is higher than most. It appears that the price of cocktails and wine by the glass have increased periodically and are well above the rest of the market place. The entrees are not a bargain but tend to be well prepared and flavorable. While we enjoy coming to this restaurant we would not consider it a value versus other choices.
