With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes.   • "After a wonderful dining experience at the Paul Martin's Roseville location, we were thrilled to learn they also have a restaurant in Mountain View, very close to home. One member of our party had the braised beef shortribs, they were to die for and I was tempted to order them for dessert. I had the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly and delicious. We also experienced the planked salmon. Another choice to recommend. They had a live combo on the patio outside their entrance. This might have resulted in an excessively noisy experience except that we were seated on the far side of the restaurant from the entrance so all we experienced was pleasant background music."

  • "We were seated in a booth adjacent to a long, large-group table. Its occupants continually jostled their chairs, and the chairs (lacking nylon scuff-pads) made shrieking sounds like fingernails on a blackboard. (Yes, I know I'm dating myself.) Some guests seemed to enjoy the effect, as even other guests at their table grimaced repeatedly. The restaurant could easily fix this with a few dollars of chair pads. Attention to such details--on something so apparent to everyone within 30 feet from the table--makes me wonder what else the restaurant is skimping on. We'll be back, but it ruined my wife's birthday dinner."

  • "This restaurant has a lively bar scene and the food and service are always good. This is consistent with their El Segundo location in Southern California. However, compared to similar restaurants in the area as well as downtown Sacramento the overall price especially for alcohol is higher than most. It appears that the price of cocktails and wine by the glass have increased periodically and are well above the rest of the market place. The entrees are not a bargain but tend to be well prepared and flavorable. While we enjoy coming to this restaurant we would not consider it a value versus other choices."

  • "PM's does a very good job, but a review in pricing logic is needed in my opinion. Sliced tomato with Barrata cheese; four slices with a small dollop of cheese and one basil leaf at $14. That's $3.50 per slice!! Similar to glass pricing for average wines."

  • "We love healthy, and mostly organic, food with nice presentation. Food was just good, but not great for the price. The noise level was above and beyond acceptable - we could barely hear each other at our small table for two. The room was very dark. It would have been "romantic" except too crowded, too dark, and too loud. I can see how this would be a great Hot Spot for singles with their bar area. Our waitress was wonderful, and she made our experience much better. She returned to our table to check our needs often. She was the best part. This was the second time we've been to Paul Martin's - first time wasn't impressive. Our expensive (over $20 at least) were small portions, and we left hungry. We will not be returning."

  • "After dining with 6 ladies we were disappointed in our service(Joey) was slow as molasses and didn't care if we were annoyed, the the steak chimmichurri was blah with no flavor, and to top it off after settling up with server on our bill we were double charged on our credit card we learned after we got home and a fraud alert came via email. We called the restaurant that moment and they weren't even sympathetic, and was appalled it would take 3 days to reverse charges.....will NEVER go back ever! First and LAST TIME"

  • "Our dining experience at Paul Martin's resulted in a new favorite in our repetoire of dining experiences! Great service, great food, and great ambiance. Our meal began with sharing a kale ceasar salad; topped with a fresh anchovie, this was a flavorful start to an all-around excellent meal. I ordered cedar plank salmon--the fish was a very generous portion of perfectly cooked salmon on a bed of greens/delicious. My husband had the polenta with veggies and grilled chicken, and pronounced it excellent. I also ordered the grilled corn, and it was the best I've ever tasted; yum! We thorougly enjoyed the banana cream pie with chocolate-lined crust we shared. Make reservations if you go; the place was full on a thursday evening."

  • "We had a rez for Sunday at 5 p.m. We were told we could not sit in the back of the restaurant, as it wasn't that busy yet and "the curtain had not been pulled yet"! My father is severely hearing impaired, so that is why we asked for the back of the restaurant. So, guess where they put us? In the bar area which was so noisy, I had to sit next to him and shout into his ear! THIS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG!"

  • "Our table of 3 loved this restaurant. We are each different in our food/drink needs and there was something for each of us that we loved. Fresh, fresh, fresh!!! Wonderful choices of food and drink. We had a rib dish, veg polenta dish, and tasty salad and vegetable sides. My favorite wine (although $20/glass) was available and true and my husband enjoyed his non-alcoholic beers. Fresh tea was a hit with our daughter. We savored it all and will be back. We were sorry to have missed ordering dessert. On our way out, we noticed a band setting up and outdoor seating as well. Must mention the staff. Everyone was very polite and professional and made sure all our needs were met. Great service. The restaurant/bar is a gem!"

  • "We have eaten at Paul Martin's numerous times, enough that it's been one of our favorites. We were disappointed with this visit. We started with the spinach dip, a previous favorite. We've loved it in the past, but not this time. There were large leaves of spinach that were stringy and difficult to cut into manageable pieces......and there was way too much of it. The spinach overpowered any cheese flavors and made the whole dish watery. We did report all this to a wait person. My grilled salmon was very good, but my husband's chimichurri steak was nearly raw after he'd ordered it medium rare. It came all sliced up so sending it back didn't seem like a good option. He ate the parts that were more done and we took the rest home."

  • "We had a delightful lunch of grilled salmon on a bed of grains and greens that was truly delectable. Our waiter was cheerful and helpful, and made himself available when he was needed. It's a popular place and was pretty full, which led to a lively noise level, but not so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves. I think the comfortable booth where we were seated made a difference. We've been to Paul Martin's before, and we will certainly be back."
