A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Mountain View
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

We enjoyed their Sunday night prime rib special of 3 courses for $25. Can't beat that and the prime rib is cooked in house. At 6:00 on a Sunday, the restaurant was quiet. We will go again at that time. Extensive by-the-glass wine list, which we appreciated, too.

WE HAVE DINED AT PM SEVERAL TIMES AND FOUND IT NICE BUT A BIT PRICEY. WE CHOSE TO TRY THEIR SUNDAY ROAST BEEF SPECIAL THIS TIME AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED A LARGE CUT PIECE OF ROAST BEEF - DONE AS WE ASKED - WITH MASHED POTATOES, SMALL SALAD AND DESSERT. IT WAS JUST AS IT SHOULD BE AND THE SERVICE HAS IMPROVED A LOT SINCE IT FIRST OPENED. WE WILL GO AGAIN!

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) had dinner at Paul Martin's on a busy Friday night. We had a reservation & had to wait about 10 minutes anyway, but -- it was busy. Our server was quite attentive & the food came pretty quickly. I loved my short ribs; our son enjoyed his "brick" chicken; & my husband liked his steak (he ordered "medium" & it was more like "medium-rare," but he didn't mind). We had leftovers for lunch the next day. The homemade ice cream was good too. My only real complaint is with the chairs -- they were incredibly uncomfortable. They looked nice -- plush leather -- but were too soft or something & also mismatched with the height of the table. Even our medium-height kids found them uncomfortable & back-ache-inducing.

We were seated inside on a Friday night and it was very noisy. Service was good, food overall was delicious. Mashed potatoes on 3 plates were cold. Waiter brought a replacement bowl. Kale Caesar salad is nothing special. Ribeye steak was yummy. So was salmon and beef short rib. We will go back

My husband and I had dinner here on Friday. As it was toward the end of happy hour, a lot of last minute orders went in and so the kitchen got a bit backed up and it took awhile to get our food. Our server proactively told her manager that our food was taking way longer than it should have so he came to our table, apologized, offered to comp our round of drinks and that was that! The food was very good and it felt nice to know that they take their service level very seriously and that we were, indeed, important to them.

Waitress knew the menu well and gave great suggestions. She was most pleasant and geniune. Tacos were a bit small, so that was the most disappointing dish, but Steak au Jus sandwich, braised beef, burger and fries were top notch. Very pleasant outdoor eating area.

Yep, I'm afraid to broadcast this, because I don't think many people have found or figured this out yet. Paul Martin's has a Monday night special that is truly a deal! For $50 bucks, a couple gets a bottle of wine, two dinner entrees and two salads. It's about a $75 value -- go with another couple and you've had a great dinner and two bottles of wine for four. The food is great and really well prepared; the service is great; and on a Monday night you won't fight the crowds and can keep one eye on the game....

Our waitress, Althea, was very good. The rest of the serve was fair, at best: . Hostess was surly, when I requested not to be seated right next to the kitchen door, she said "did you request that on your reservation?" I told her that I did not and she told me that in the future I should request "Not to be seated at table 41". Well that put me in my place, didn't it!!! At no point in our encounter did I feel welcomed or wanted as a guest. Napkins were damp, we were not the only table to receive damp napkins. Main course took a very long time to come out - over 30 minutes. Again, not the fault of our waitress. At this point Althea offered me a complimentary refill of wine. When the food arrived it was served hot and was very good.

The tacos in the bar are very good. The dinner, prime rib was just average. But will come back and try again.

We were greeted and seated immediately in a comfortable booth with plenty of room. My only objection is I don't like having the silverware laid out directly on a bare table. Our server was prompt, helpful and very friendly. During the meal, she returned perhaps too many times to ask, "Is everything OK?". My meal, kale Caesar salad and braised short rib, was excellent. Others in our party thought their too-dry mahi-mahi on a bed of undercooked green beans lacking. Skip the blah and uninspired desserts. I would go back again and sit at the bar. That seemed to be the fun place to be.

Sunday's prime rib dinner started with rather dry bread and a salad, large but very lightly dressed and tasteless, with only one or two cherry tomatoes cut in half accompanying the greens. So we ordered the salt and pepper wild prawns, which were delicious; gave us a reason to think the rest of the meal would be good. However, my slab of prime rib (3/4 to 1 inch thick), although large, had no flavor. A large serving of well-prepared mashed potatoes came with the meat. The three small scoops of ice cream were adequate for dessert. This is my third trip to Paul Martins’. I would not go for the Sunday prime rib dinner again. A definite positive was the excellent and friendly service. The third star in the ratings for food was for the prawns.

We had been to the Paul Martin's in Manhattan Beach and had loved it. We were excited to try out the one in Mountain View. We had a reservation at 7 pm on a Saturday night. The noise level was really high, with many screaming children. The wait staff were rushing. Our server, very strangely started telling us what she liked to eat there without our asking. Why would I care? I'm there to eat what I want, not what a total stranger tells me she eats. She took away my husband's drink when he was not finished with it. She kept interrupting our conversation. She brought the bill with the coffee, in other words, telling us it was time for us to leave. We will not be going back nor will we recommend.

We love Paul Martin's and we just had our second great meal there, and plan to go back. The french dip is a favorite of my husband's, and I love the fish tacos which have grilled fish, not fried. Good choices of wine. Huge salads. But here is the thing: we let them seat our group of four next to the door that goes out to the patio. Mistake. Big mistake. Slam, slam, slam all evening. One of our dinner companions was noticeably agitated and we should have just asked to move. Anyway i will go back again but i will make SURE to not sit next to the patio door. BTW the patio is right out on San Antonio Road so it's pretty noisy out there with traffic. For some that would be OK but for me, since i wear hearing aids, it impedes conversation.

Service was slow (there might have been 5 or 6 couples, no more) and inaccurate: my friend's salad did not resemble the menu description; she sent it back and it was returned correct. I asked for no tartar but added mayo and got neither. The salmon sandwich was delicious, which is the only reason the restaurant gets two stars. Our drinks had no coasters or napkins and left large puddles of condensation on the glass-to table. We ate outside because it was very cold inside. The patio experienced gusty wind that would have blown paper napkins away, if we had had any. Finally, the shrimp added to the salad were charged at $9.00 but the menu price was $5.00. Can't imagine why I would go back.

Dinner was good as usual, but first glitch in the six times I previously have been there. Grandson's New York steak came out overdone so he had to wait until another one, medium rare was served. Steaks are tricky to get right so they come out at the same time other diner's meals do, but always unfortunate as it spoils the dining together ambience.

I was a veggie in a group of carnivores for lunch at Paul Martin's American Grill in Mountain View, CA and I had the mushroom burger. This burger was great! They actually create a burger patty out of mushrooms, and the taste of the mushrooms was fantastic, full bodied and vibrant, and the aioli that they put on the burger did not overpower the taste of the mushrooms, but was just right. The bread used for the bun was good, too, and so were the perfectly salted string french fries. Paul Martins worked perfectly for our eclectic group of business lunchers including important guests from out of town and a couple of vegetarians who ordered the mushroom burger.

Had a business dinner there with some colleagues who generally prefer good steak houses. This isn't a steak house as we found out. The service was adequate. Our server seemed a bit scattered and disorganized. It wasn't busy. The portions were small. Too small for my taste given the price. Money wasn't a big issue for us but still you want to see value. The place is nice inside and with the name it just seemed like it would be one of those upper scale bar and grill places but it's not. Not sure id return unless they upgrade their menu with some classic steak offerings and maybe upgrade the level of service, given the prices they want.

First time visit to Paul Martins and we were pleasantly surprised. There were four of us and we each enjoyed our selections. The fish tacos, short ribs and corn on the cobb were all outstanding. The BBQ ribs were really good, the plank salmon good but not great. Our server (Misael) was excellent and the room, although quite loud, was acceptable for conversation (but certainly not quiet conversation). Would have been a five star review were it not for the plank salmon and the noise level. Overall, great place!

It is a real pleasure to recommend this restaurant. I had one of the best meals I have ever had here. It wasn't like dining at the Ritz. There were no white table cloths, but in some ways it was better than dining at The Ritz. I have almost never eaten at a restaurant where every single item was perfect. But, that is what I experienced at this place. The Gin and Tonic was the best I have ever had. My steak was cooked perfectly, and I asked for something slightly different. The home made ice cream was stunning, especially the chocolate. Even the shortbread cookies from the kitchen made my eyes roll. I'll be back here when I visit the Bay Area on business.

On a business trip and my group sat in a booth nearest the entrance for dinner. Sitting at the end facing the door, depending on time of day and time of year (this was in the evening), the sun and glare hits you smack in the face! I wasn't trying to be super cool wearing sunglasses while dining... at the same time, we didn't want to intrude the ambiance. Service is good. Menu selection seems light, but reasonable for the size of the restaurant. We would come back again and eat at the restaurant.

I enjoyed all my visits to Paul Martin's in Mountain View. The place is very nice, the atmosphere is nice and most of the staff is friendly. The menu is rather limited and overpriced. The fish tacos which were about 18 dollars can be just as good and with significantly more fish for half the price, at a lower level establishment. I do understand that you pay for the location and building and so on, but the food is really overpriced. The mushroom burger was very, very, salty and it didnt seem to deliver the 'amazing' culinary experience that the server was bragging about. The chicken and polenta was so-so, the polenta was old somehow. So, the choices are a few and mediocre. If you go there, go for the atmosphere and the drinks.
