A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - Mountain View
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

Dined here many times- live nearby. Need to keep track of their wine list and what is on it. Ordered a 2008 vintage wine and "wine steward" brought a 2012. He didn't know the list and didn't notice he brought the wrong year. Also, you should have Ridge Three Valleys on your list if you are going to please and impress Silicon Valley diners. My polenta dish with grilled chicken was disappointing. The veggies were scarce, the cauliflower undercooked- almost raw- and the chicken was very overcooked. I have had this dish without the chicken in the past and it was good but this time it was not good. My dinner partners enjoyed their dinners so I gather that you don't have many people ordering the polenta dish.

The menu choices were limited, especially the children's menu but the food was well prepared and locally grown. The specialty drinks are excellent, particularly the Raspberry Martini made with house infused raspberry vodka. It was the perfect place for a multigenerational birthday party except for the necessity of bringing our own cake.

We had a very nice dinner and had ordered the "Brick" Chicken and the Braised Short Ribs. The chicken was tasty and the ribs were very tender. The server was helpful and explained the dishes. One disappointing note was that I had mentioned during the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday of one person of our dinner party. There was acknowledgment to our guest or even a small complimentary dessert offered to her. The server only wished our guest a "Happy Birthday" as we were leaving. Otherwise, we had enjoyed our dinner.

2nd time at this location. All the food we've tried so far has been delicious. We have simple tastes and don't order a lot of "extra" items that will bring the total bill to a larger amount. When the server realized this, it seemed as though she was a bit upset (i.e.lower tip). Paul Martin's really needs to also get new uniforms for their servers. The color of the shirts look dull and drab.

i took my mom here on her birthday for dinner. we were seated immediately and server was very attentive. calamari appetizer was great, but i didn't care as much for the kale caesar salad. to me it's not caesar without romaine lettuce. for entrees we ordered the blackened ribeye and the skirt steak. skirt steak was perfect medium rare, but unfortunately the ribeye was a bit overcooked. for dessert we ordered the banana cream pie, which was good although i found it a bit odd that they did not comp it, knowing that it was a birthday. obviously they are not obligated to do so, but my experience is that is fairly standard. all in all a good dining experience.

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. We were able to get reservations at the last minute, but were seated near the kitchen, so it was quite noisy. I ordered the Chimichuri steak. Not a good choice. The steak was tough, and the Chimichuri sauce was more bland than expected. I should have gone with the waitress' recommendation of the brick chicken. It looked much better (at other tables). The service was also spotty. My wife only got a kale salad, and I order a dinner salad (with the steak). The waitress brought my dinner salad and not my wife's salad, which was perfect. However 1 minute later, the steak and my wife's salad was delivered. So I had to rush through my dinner salad, while my steak got cold. Just very poor timing.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends- my salmon with quinoa was delicious and I heard good things about my companions entrees as well. There was a screwup in the kitchen and one of our meals came out late, but the server was very gracious, apologized profusely and took the item off the bill. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. It's worth noting that the restaurant serves dinner past ten PM on weekends, good to know if you are coming from a movie, for example.

We had the brick chicken, cedar salmon, grilled polenta, and seafood pasta. Pasta was a little oily, salmon was in a light broth that tasted like beef broth, brick chicken was tasty, but thought the mashed potatoes were instant. The desserts were the best part, a real biscuit shortcake, chocolate cake, which was comped by the house because it was our anniversary and birthdays. They forgot the kale salad, but they brought it out later and comped us. The service was attentive, but the food was underwhelming for the price. We probably won't be going back. Maybe it would be better to stick to the steaks or prime rib.

My team and I went for lunch at Paul Martins and it turned out to be a disappointing experience. Even though the place is very nice, we had to wait over 45 minutes for our food. Once th food arrived, it turned out to be nothing mind blowing. The kale Cesar salad tastes stale and is not worth $9 for some lettuce and 3 pieces of croutons . The burgers were also nothing to brag about as the buns seemed to be " old" or stale . I would go back to this place for drinks but definitely not the food.

I have gone here twice for dinner and have very much enjoyed everything. The one thing I notice every time I'm there is that the bar area looks like a lot of fun. There are long tables that are set up in a first come/first serve style. I am looking forward to going back there for happy hour. The environment is more young and hip; I wouldn't recommend it if you want to have a nice dinner and conversation with older parents or grandparents.

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) had dinner at Paul Martin's on a busy Friday night. We had a reservation & had to wait about 10 minutes anyway, but -- it was busy. Our server was quite attentive & the food came pretty quickly. I loved my short ribs; our son enjoyed his "brick" chicken; & my husband liked his steak (he ordered "medium" & it was more like "medium-rare," but he didn't mind). We had leftovers for lunch the next day. The homemade ice cream was good too. My only real complaint is with the chairs -- they were incredibly uncomfortable. They looked nice -- plush leather -- but were too soft or something & also mismatched with the height of the table. Even our medium-height kids found them uncomfortable & back-ache-inducing.

My husband and I had dinner here on Friday. As it was toward the end of happy hour, a lot of last minute orders went in and so the kitchen got a bit backed up and it took awhile to get our food. Our server proactively told her manager that our food was taking way longer than it should have so he came to our table, apologized, offered to comp our round of drinks and that was that! The food was very good and it felt nice to know that they take their service level very seriously and that we were, indeed, important to them.

Yep, I'm afraid to broadcast this, because I don't think many people have found or figured this out yet. Paul Martin's has a Monday night special that is truly a deal! For $50 bucks, a couple gets a bottle of wine, two dinner entrees and two salads. It's about a $75 value -- go with another couple and you've had a great dinner and two bottles of wine for four. The food is great and really well prepared; the service is great; and on a Monday night you won't fight the crowds and can keep one eye on the game....

Our waitress, Althea, was very good. The rest of the serve was fair, at best: . Hostess was surly, when I requested not to be seated right next to the kitchen door, she said "did you request that on your reservation?" I told her that I did not and she told me that in the future I should request "Not to be seated at table 41". Well that put me in my place, didn't it!!! At no point in our encounter did I feel welcomed or wanted as a guest. Napkins were damp, we were not the only table to receive damp napkins. Main course took a very long time to come out - over 30 minutes. Again, not the fault of our waitress. At this point Althea offered me a complimentary refill of wine. When the food arrived it was served hot and was very good.

We were greeted and seated immediately in a comfortable booth with plenty of room. My only objection is I don't like having the silverware laid out directly on a bare table. Our server was prompt, helpful and very friendly. During the meal, she returned perhaps too many times to ask, "Is everything OK?". My meal, kale Caesar salad and braised short rib, was excellent. Others in our party thought their too-dry mahi-mahi on a bed of undercooked green beans lacking. Skip the blah and uninspired desserts. I would go back again and sit at the bar. That seemed to be the fun place to be.

Sunday's prime rib dinner started with rather dry bread and a salad, large but very lightly dressed and tasteless, with only one or two cherry tomatoes cut in half accompanying the greens. So we ordered the salt and pepper wild prawns, which were delicious; gave us a reason to think the rest of the meal would be good. However, my slab of prime rib (3/4 to 1 inch thick), although large, had no flavor. A large serving of well-prepared mashed potatoes came with the meat. The three small scoops of ice cream were adequate for dessert. This is my third trip to Paul Martins’. I would not go for the Sunday prime rib dinner again. A definite positive was the excellent and friendly service. The third star in the ratings for food was for the prawns.
