With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes.   • "This was my first time at Paul Martin's. It was perfect because we went on the earlier side when the restaurant was still pretty empty, so it was nice and quiet. Everything on the menu looked delicious. I was told that their burgers are excellent so that's what I chose. It was one of the best that I have had. Our server was very attentive and very pleasant. I will definitely return. It will probably become one of my favorite restaurants to frequent."

  • "Paul Martin's is a chain so I wasn't expecting anything special so the wonderful experience was a great surprise. Was able to get a big booth for just the two of us which was perfect for a business meeting. Our server was incredibly professional and helpful. Enormous selection of wines by the glass. Food was delicious. Kale Caesar for appetizer and short ribs for main course were both excellent. Prices less than you would expect for a restaurant of this caliber. I would rate it a 4.2. My only complaint was that the server didn't mention validating my parking ticket which would have saved me $12"

  • "It's obvious that quality ingredients count at PM - everything is fresh & veggies are vibrant in color with a distinct farm to table quality. Simple presentation but that allows the meal to stand on its own without covering in sauces, garnishes etc. ample portions without being wasteful. Could be a little lighter inside - nice lighting for cocktails, but a little dim for lunchtime."

  • "Nothing wrong with this restaurant for folks who like this sort of thing--solidly prepared food, but a little heavy. My Asian Salad was actually very good, but when I order a salad, I don't expect it to come with lots of calorie-laden crispy noodles. Portion sizes huge. They had some sort of computer glitch while we were there and lost my husband's order, causing his food to be very delayed, but they were very nice about it and din't charge us for it. Sweet potato fries (camee with my husband's burger) very good. I just come from a city where the food is generally lighter and fresher--which is what I prefer."

Extremely disappointed and embarrassed that I'd invited a friend to dine here. There were open tables in the dining room but they stuck us in the bar area. Won't be going back anytime soon and will recommend that others don't go here either."

They seem to take the normal fare and put small preparation twists that really hit the mark. PM' s is not particularly expensive either. I definitely would recommend this to someone looking for a tasty lunch or dinner."

  • "Great evening out. Our server was attentive, helpful and friendly. A+ for her. The mushroom soup she recommended was the BEST I've ever had. Calamari app and ahi entree were excellent. Bar was understaffed for a Friday night. Servers seemed to be stressed & unable to serve us in a timely manner. (We waited 10 minutes for our drinks) There were just too many people for 3 servers to handle. Also hostess got confused somehow about seating us. I checked in 5 minutes before our 7pm reservation and was told they needed a few more minutes to set the table. I said no problem, she could come get us in the bar and pointed to where our party was standing. 15 minutes later I had to go back and ask what happened. She said she forgot."

  • "First visit to any Paul Martins on March 17. Impressed by server who was professional and helpful at all times. There was a Monday night winter special for two with a salad and main course each plus a bottle of wine (specially marked items on wine list). We chose a $56 bottle of one of the best reds I ever tasted, and our total bill was about $53. The food we chose was well presented and delicious. The server was fantastic and got a $20 tip. If all Paul Martins are as good as this I will choose them every time."

We were told there were NO servers for the dining room. No excuse given. There is no seating in the waiting and there was plenty of waiting. Lovely place with no direction. Will never go here again!"

Our server was really cool...she was knowledgeable, friendly and made great recommendations for our meal. The Braised Short Ribs and the "Brick" Chicken were outstanding, just like she said they would be. My fiance really enjoyed her Lemon Drop Martini, as well. We can't wait to come back!!"

They are always happy to switch out potato for veggies and the atmosphere is festive. It's a favorite of our whole family. The have a great private room for a special event that seats around 20."
