A word from Paul Martin's American Grill - El Segundo
Seasonal & Delicious.

With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. Good times and thoughtful food are a way of life at Paul Martin's American Grill.

One of our usual waiters, George, seemed unattentive and hurried. We couldn't even get bread without asking for it several times. The Monday night dinner has reduced it's appetizer selection to nothing - everyone gets the same minimal green salad now; no more soups or salad alternatives, and the flavor was bland. Main courses are still very good. The ambiance was awful! Rock and roll music, which was loud in the dining room by 6:30 p.m., kept increasing in volume throughout the evening; making it impossible for our guests to hear each other. We tried to get someone's attention to turn it down, but couldn't.

What separates this restaurant from others is that they pride themselves on the whole "Farm To Table" aspect of their food. That is why the menu may not have the usual items on it you may find at a steak place. I had the Ribeye and it was very tasty. Pretty decent size. I enjoyed some very different wines that you don't see around much. Just remember to check the menu because if you are looking for a Filet, it may not be available.

Paul Martin's American Grill is worth the trip to get solid and tasty American-style food. The staff was friendly and was able to meet all of our requests for information or service. They recognized the milestone occasion we were celebrating and "comp-ed" our dessert to acknowledge our event. Food was ample and quite flavorful. Classic Salmon on cedar plank was especially note worthy. We will return in the future to enjoy the experience.

My wife and I have eaten at the Paul Martin's in El Segundo several times and have always found the food tasty as well as healthful (everything is organic). But when you are eating the food, you will not be thinking, "This is good for me, " as much as, "This is really delicious." We have ordered steak, fish, chicken, and polenta; all were excellent. We were also there with friends for Easter brunch. We haven't tried everything on their wine list--perhaps a good thing since we drive there--but we have enjoyed some good red and white wines. Paul Martin's also offered very good service--some of the best waiters we have encountered.

Needed a place for a late dinner after picking up friends at LAX before long drive back to south OC Simple dinner took over 40 minutes to be served despite the fact that we were there at 9:15 and the place was half empty (that should have been my clue) French dip was quite good but burger and steak salad were not what they should have been Finally to top it off my $14 pinot noir was a very light pour - really?

My husband and I made a last minute decision to have a nice evening out to celebrate a major milestone in our lives. We decided on Paul Martin's and were very pleased. The food was great, the service superior but it was a bit noisy. Either way, we had a great evening and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

I first became acquainted with Paul Martin's American Grill in El Segundo when my friend gave herself a birthday party there. Upon my arrival, someone offered me an appetizer. It was so delicious, I couldn't wait to taste the food. When my dinner was served, I was not disappointed. The food was sumptuous and flavorful. I ordered grilled salmon with fresh spinach and mashed potatoes. Because the menu consists of all American food, there's no guesswork involved, no asking the waiter or waitress, "what is this exactly?" I've since given a birthday party there for my sister and my cousin. We brought in a cake from a bakery and the restaurant staff was very accommodating to us by placing the cake in their refrigerator.

Paul Martin's is one of the nicer upscale restaurants in the South Bay, although it is a little pricey. My date and I had the charcuterie and a platter of six shrimp and six oysters, along with two cocktails and two glasses of wine. The bill for this (with tip) came to around $150. Quite a bit for a few drinks and some appetizers.

On the Open Table reservation I put in the notes that the dinner was for a special occasion, my wife's birthday and there was no acknowledgment from the Maitre D nor the Waitress. This was very disappointing since even Denny's will show their appreciate better. There are many other choices of restaurants to go to so I feel when a regular patron chooses to return and make it a point to highlight that it is for a special occasion, then I think there should be some effort to show some appreciation. This was clearly not the case and it was just another night. Perhaps this is a lack of communication from the reservation to the Maitre D and waitress or a lack of effort from Management.

Third or fourth time there. Friendly, helpful service, excellent food, and refined, but casual ambience. This is a favorite restaurant. Hint: If you want a quiet meal, ask to be seated on the bar side of the restaurant. One time, we were seated on the other side and there was a fairly noisy large party right by our booth. On that visit, I down-rated the noise level. Our waiter told us this time that when making reservations to request to be on the side where the bar is. Large groups are never seated there and there are both booths and tables.

We all order the prime rib special and it was excellent the home made ice cream for dessert was excellent three scopes, Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The service was excellent. Our server was Ryan, the bar tender, he not only took care of the bar but us also. Everyone was friendly and willing to serve. We had a great experience - and the food was great

Server was friendly and genuine...runner who dropped cheese and salumi did not explain any of the selections, but server picked up the ball. As always Paul Martins delivers a great dinner. There was one thing that was odd. I noticed that the banana cream pie this time was lacking bananas so I was a little disappointed in that. I did let the staff know. You can not let your signature dessert be lacking in the main ingredient. But the hanger steak was great and as always the short ribs my wife had were fantastic.

If you are on a limited budget, this is a great way to dine in a very nice restaurant. Its specialty nights include a 3 course prime rib dinner on Sunday for $25 which, if not too hungry, is large enough to split. The food is fresh with local seasonal vegetables served. The menu is not huge, but always interesting.
