With Paul Martin's American Grill, Brian Bennett and restaurateur Paul Fleming have realized a long-nurtured dream to create the restaurant "we've always wished was in our neighborhood."

At the heart of all great food is fresh, local, peak of the season ingredients. Paul Martin's aims to serve diners the best ingredients with meat raised in a humane and wholesome way, locally sourced produce, the best of both wild and farmed fish, artisan cheeses and cured meats from small local purveyors. The deep California-centric wine list twists and turns, by glass or bottle, through the Golden State's vineyards, with an occasional stop for an Oregon Pinot Gris or a Washington dry Riesling. Behind Paul Martin's elegantly rustic bar is an interesting array of craft beer and spirited cocktails with fresh garnishes. My date and I had the charcuterie and a platter of six shrimp and six oysters, along with two cocktails and two glasses of wine. The bill for this (with tip) came to around $150. Quite a bit for a few drinks and some appetizers."

  • "On the Open Table reservation I put in the notes that the dinner was for a special occasion, my wife's birthday and there was no acknowledgment from the Maitre D nor the Waitress. This was very disappointing since even Denny's will show their appreciate better. There are many other choices of restaurants to go to so I feel when a regular patron chooses to return and make it a point to highlight that it is for a special occasion, then I think there should be some effort to show some appreciation. This was clearly not the case and it was just another night. Perhaps this is a lack of communication from the reservation to the Maitre D and waitress or a lack of effort from Management."

  • "Third or fourth time there. Friendly, helpful service, excellent food, and refined, but casual ambience. This is a favorite restaurant. Hint: If you want a quiet meal, ask to be seated on the bar side of the restaurant. One time, we were seated on the other side and there was a fairly noisy large party right by our booth. On that visit, I down-rated the noise level. Our waiter told us this time that when making reservations to request to be on the side where the bar is. Large groups are never seated there and there are both booths and tables."

  • "We invited friends from our church and went after church. We had reservations for three but had an extra person there was no problem. We all order the prime rib special and it was excellent the home made ice cream for dessert was excellent three scopes, Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The service was excellent. Our server was Ryan, the bar tender, he not only took care of the bar but us also. Everyone was friendly and willing to serve. We had a great experience - and the food was great"

Server was friendly and genuine...runner who dropped cheese and salumi did not explain any of the selections, but server picked up the ball. Either timings were off or cook times long for entrees.(even though steaks were mw 35min)we were not in a hurry and had a great time and would go back."

  • "As always Paul Martins delivers a great dinner. There was one thing that was odd. I noticed that the banana cream pie this time was lacking bananas so I was a little disappointed in that. I did let the staff know. You can not let your signature dessert be lacking in the main ingredient. But the hanger steak was great and as always the short ribs my wife had were fantastic."

Its specialty nights include a 3 course prime rib dinner on Sunday for $25 which, if not too hungry, is large enough to split. The food is fresh with local seasonal vegetables served. Would return here in an instant. I especially loved the fact that the restaurant was quiet and that there was no loud noise while we dined. The manager, Juan, even came over and asked about our dining experience and to make sure everything was fine. This is a rare find and loved the farm-to-table food. Food exceeded my expectations and reasonably priced."

(On occasion perhaps a bit too over-solicitous.) Prime rib on Sunday was a generous cut—price was great, although I thought the mashed potatoes slightly too "mushy." My niece declared that her salmon dish was excellent."

They had several fish dishes but the majority of them used farm raised salmon and I am not a fan of farm raised fish. My husband had the short ribs and he thought they were amazing. We had a seafood tower and it was excellent. The tomato soup was also very good."
